STRIKER Bradley Wright-Phillips has been cleared to resume playing football – but whether that will be with Plymouth Argyle remains to be seen.
The transfer window closes next Monday and it still seems likely the 25-year-old will leave the cash-strapped Pilgrims by then.
Wright-Phillips was poised to sign for Reading a fortnight ago, until they pulled out of a £300,000 deal because of concerns over a knee condition.
The striker has been troubled by it for much of this season, but he has still scored 13 goals for Argyle.
At his medical for Reading, Wright-Phillips was advised to rehab his knee for a month.
He has not played for Argyle since then, and they made an appointment for him to see another specialist for a second opinion.
That took place in London on Thursday, and Wright-Phillips was assured he could resume playing without risk of worsening his knee condition.
However, there continues to be strong interest shown in him, and a move away from Home Park remains on the cards.
The Herald understands Scottish champions Glasgow Rangers have had a bid accepted for Wright-Phillips and they have also held talks with him.
But Charlton Athletic – who beat Argyle 2-0 at The Valley on Saturday – are keen on signing the striker as well.
Wright-Phillips is out of contract this summer, when he will be a free agent.
So, with the Pilgrims in a desperate financial plight and still under a transfer embargo, they are prepared to sell him before the deadline next Monday.
Argyle manager Peter Reid was reluctant to comment at length about Wright-Phillips after the defeat by Charlton.
He said: "His knee is manageable. He's happy with what the specialist told him."
When asked whether Wright-Phillips would train with Argyle this week, Reid replied: "Yes, if he doesn't go anywhere".
In his time at Saints he was frustrating, I always thought a loan out to a League One side would benefit him in the long run. Became a bit of a fan favorite after stealing from a couple of Skates (even though he didn't, it was Nathan Dyer and another lad while Bradders was in the background).
[cite]Posted By: scruffle[/cite]Not sure how I feel about it, shows good intent, but with his knee sounds like another rowett to me!
Never really rated him but if he scores us enough match winning goals to send us up I dont really care
We paid the best part of 4 million for Rowett. In the two seasons before we signed him he played around 20 games each year and was constantly picking up niggles.

Harsh comparison IMO.
Fair enough just looking at the fact he only played 16 times last season because of a re-occuring knee injury, one which has made him miss 5/6 games so far this season as well
but granted he aint cost us 4million, but considering he only had 5 months left on contract 2/300k is quite a price, esp from someone just wanting to get him off their wage bill - obviously there must have been quite a few teams interested
Lets not get to gready, great news about Philips, don't forget they are having to take on board our depts as well,so perhaps may see loanees for rest of season, then see where we are end of season.18months is a shrewed move, that will cover us for remainder of this season and next, this will give us a good chance of into the championship and then a crack at the big one, then if we do go up,his contract will be up and he may not stay or we may sell on,all in all a good bit of buisness, well done the board & Chris. You always have your doubts when new people come in and take over and although you feel sorry for Parky,it did seem to be going a little off course, you never knew which team would turn up,the go get'em,or the latsidasical side. Taking on Chris was a stroke of genius,Murry & Varney new it would lift the whole club and players,Chris's approach to the players and fans is completely honest and hard working, the manner in which he conducts himself and approaches others is just first class,he will get 100/20 % out of this team in a very short time and to have a board that is prepared to back him is just....dare I say Brilliant. Well done all involved.
Definitely an impressive signing. I wonder about the 18month contract though, does that mean they are worried about his knee or that he didn't want longer? In September he'll be in his last year and at Xmas this year he can talk to other clubs!

Great post! I found myself nodding every second whilst reading it lol.
The fact that we have gone for this type of signing is a very good sign for me and shows the direction we are going in and for me it's all positive at the moment.
Also, the fact he has chosen us over others is also saying good things to me about our potential and that he has brought into it.

In 18 months Charlton will be 10 points clear at the top of the championship and BWP might not be good enough for the Prem. Simples

Maybe they just thought 18months was enough? And that the main operation is to just get somebody like BWP in to get out of this league pronto!? Am I right?

Is now a good time to bring up that old argument that Parkinson was treated really bad and the new owners are liars?!!! ;-)
Blimey, we sign ex Premier League striker with an excellent pedigree and still some aren't happy! If we were told Messi was coming, some people would still question whether he can hack the climate and wonder whether he can settle.
Given where we were before Christmas, we now have a legend as a manager, a Liverpool starlet and a former Man City striker with a decent track record at this level. Add Jackson's goals as well and we really will have a potent strike force.
In my opinion as well Joe Anyinsah and Paul Benson are also a decent part of this potent strike force.
I think the 18 months is because BWP has actually only consistently scored this season so far, and hasn't set the world alight in his career so far. So if it all goes tits up we can sell him off quickly. Also, with his knee issues if he gets a serious injury we aren't paying his wages for ages, ala Kelly Youga

Debut goal and Ill be starting to beleive...

At least ge aint costing us £3.7m!
13 goals in 17 games in the league this season. Looked a threat against us at Home Park. He'll do for me.
Likewise.
His injury worries me too given our previous track record. Gibbs, Rowett etc, etc.
However as you say convince me Bradders!
Great amount of goals so far, just hope he get's a great service frequently!

Impressed.
