Hello, Im new here but have been reading these threads for a while but I would like to say my opinion on Dave Mooney.
Mooney always showed that he cared and gave everything, his running off the ball down into the channels created space for the rest of the team to exploit. I like Mooney and if we sign him next season with a good striker partnering him then sure, why wouldn't he be able to get 15 goals or more espesically with some confidence.
no thanks. Already got one non-scoring forward in Akpo so can't be having two. Rather take a punt on Bauza and whoever else is out there. Mooney would be bottom of my list.
Mooney is a good footbller and with some confidence (that he get by being a permanent signing) could do very well. Gives 100% and has ability. Cannot see us signing anyone better on a free. I have faith in Parky and think that he may well be signed. Was disapointed when we signed Akpo (nothing I saw last night changed my mind), not sure that Burton wants to sign so no loss there if Mooney wants to come dispite the unfair stick he took last year then fair play to him I would welcome him aboard.
spot on revelinit. Good running off the ball and link up play, and *can* score some great goals - for that confidence helps, and having a load of inbreds booing his name and giving stick at any little error won't inspire confidence. (While Racon goes missing for about 8 games on the trot in the middle of the season and gets no stick whatsoever).
AA - that was definitely said. And I wouldn't blame him.
he would come back in a heartbeat. He's another shite footballer about to be chucked on the scrapheap at the moment and he'll think his lottery numbers have come in if we sign him.
I would like him back, cant see it after the stick he got, I found it shameful that he was booed before he came on as sub at one match (sorry cant remember who against).

That unthinking booing of Mooney by some fans, didn't only upset Mooney - it filtered right through the team.
Can't remember exactly who now, but at the time one player in an interview said how angry the rest of the players were that Mooney was constantly singled out for abuse.
It seemed to cause a divide between the whole team and the crowd.
I like the look of Mooney and think he could form a good partnership with a decent strong CF.... we so need someone to score 20 a season, but I think it's more to do with the supply, we never seem to have a person that can cross the ball, or provide the right kind of crosses, thats where the confidence a striker needs will come...

Same as! felt it reflected right through the club, all those people doing their best to see CAFC do well wondering why they bother when a player (who is just the same as us all) gets abused like that. Hopefully the "boo mob" are in the 800 people who have not got a season ticket! Mooney you are welcome from my seat!
If he came back I think he'd work well with Bauza as they are both intelligent players - not sure if they'd be prolific enough though so still need an out and out poacher/finisher

As it stands, I can't see goals being scored plentifully from midfield...... last season we had Bailey scoring prolifically up to around the half way point of the season - but he only scored a couple after that. Same with Burton up front, mainly 1st half of season goals.
Even though we didn't have a prolific strike force, we were still not far short of the teams scoring most goals. It seemed that our goals could come from most areas of the team.
And even loan players like Akpo and Mooney chipped in with 6 each, and Reid 4........ and these players only played part of the season, each wiith a number of appearances from the bench. In a full season, you'd expect these 3 players to more than double their tally.
I've said before, if Mooney was signed permanently and was a regular starter, I reckon he'd nick 15 goals a season with about 10 assists. Same with Akpo. Just based on statistics, that's a decent return for free transfer signings.
But then, we would miss Bailey's goals from midfield.
And then we may have Bauza:
At Swansea in all competitions, Bauza scored 9 goals in 49 games, including quite a few from the bench.
49 appearances in 3 years doesn't sound many - but he had a couple of lengthy periods sidelined with ankle and knee injuries.
Am hoping that Charlton find a way of signing Bouza because I have afeeling he could be just the lift we need, but if we can`t sign him then I would gladly like to see DM back at The Valley. Akpo, Bouza, Mooney and Torres sounds good to me.

Hoping someone would put in an offer perhaps?
turned up at training with two stone extra muscle from working out all summer maybe?

Make SAGE right and would be free.....

Maybe a reasonable freebie signing, but isn't the 20 goal a season striker we need.
Think he may have burnt a few bridges with the fans with his "cupping ears" goal celebration too.
Totally agree with bibble.

"He is excited about joining Swansea City, and we are excited about having him in our squad," Martinez told the club's website.
"He has a fantastic pedigree at all levels in Spain, especially playing in the U20 World Cup, and is a great prospect.
"He's a different striker to the ones we've got. He's tall, good in the air and a good link man.
"He plays deeper than an out-and-out striker and creates a lot of chances for people. In fact, his assist record is fantastic." (From the BBC site)
EDIT: Oops, wrong thread!
Soz.
We need a consistant goalscorer and Mooney isnt the answer.
For all his teamwork its just not enough, ultimately as the second striker you have to score goals, he didn't and never looked like doing so.
This was ultimately the reason we didn't go up.
Yup - let's blame Mooney for us not going up.
Jeez, that's a bit over the top!
Finding a 20-goal striker is pretty tough and you don't tend to get them on freebies or on loan.
So if it wasnt lack of goals why didnt we go up?

Read what I wrote.
Even though you're no doubt taking the proverbial ......... it didn't exactly help, did it?
We need a goal scorer they cost money we dont have any so we will get Mooney for no money.
