The Fans' Forum was told that the running/maintenance costs are around £50k per year.
So we could have 4-5 screens instead of a Chief Exec !!
When we are such a loss making venture, knowing it costs roughly £2k a game to operate when it is pretty unreliable (a cheaper Izale McLeod) i think makes the decision a pretty easy one.
The only thing that will be missed is the running time of how long to go.
[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]
[cite]Posted By: Telnotinoz[/cite]I seem to remember £25,000 being mentioned, seemed totally ott to me...
that was the figure I had in my head
Yes, apologies. I've just gone back to my notes from May last year and £25k is the figure quoted.
Sorry for the confusion ... but it doesn't make a great deal of difference, does it? That cost is still outrageous.
I think this season's experience has been that the existing screen can't be patched up to a satisfactory standard and I understand a replacement would cost six figures.
I suppose the question is then, what information do we need, what are our options and how much would they cost
1) Big clock
2) Manual scoreboard
3) Some way of showing the teams and/or scorers, bookings/red cards
4) Some way of showing the half times
Are all of these necessary? Which is most important to the fans?
As I understand the screen was going to be scrapped but the board feared a back-lash from teh fans. Maybe the fans forum could point out that we understand the cost implications and would be happy to sacrifice the screen to enable funds to be diverted elsewhere.
There was an item in the programme at the start of the season that stated KRBS were funding the screen for the season.
I think we only need a clock. We survived for years without having to see scorers / cards the whole time. If you want half-times they can be read out or go downstairs and look at the tellies. If you want to know the teams, buy a programme, thereby giving more fund to the club. Perfect!
Names of players can't be read from North Upper, and if you are so stupid or late that you need to know the score then you can ask the person next to you
My only reservation about having no screen is that the minutes applause with the names of those fans we've lost in the previous scrolling on the screen has become a bit of a tradition. I know that names could be printed in the programme but not the same IHMO.
Buying a new screen may well cost north of £100k but renting one would be closer to the £25k as I understand it.
try and get a new board for the 4th official who puts up the substitute numbers and how much added on time there is .... i noticed it failed a few times at the end of the season

£25k just to show a list of the departed? They could easily be printed in the programme and read out. The added benefit of them being in the programme is that you have a lasting record of them.
There's many clubs that don't have a screen, and a small digital screen with the score and time on is all. Would save a lot of money and keeps the basics. Plus we wouldn't have the problems of half the screen missing etc.
And in regards to the second shirt sponsor, maybe we could go down the charity route as Aston Villa have done with Acorns, and have Demelza House on the back of our shirts seeing as we do so much work with them. Points at our community values too.

Are we on a fixed-term deal with the current screen? If not, why didn't we get a new one years ago if it would cost the same (25k pa) as the current rubbish one?
I think we own the current screen outright but it was 2nd hand when we bought it.
Not sure how the current costs break down but assume there is some sort of contra deal with that shyster from breamteam. I guess we also have to pay the engineer who, I'm told, worked some miracles last season to keep the old thing going.
I don't know the definitive total cost so it would be interesting to hear what it is from the FF.
Dave as always thanks for giving us the opportunity to communicate via the Forum. Can I ask you what/how exactly were the points regarding the ticket fiasco against Swindon re-enforced to the club? With the exception Geoff’s News Shopper column where he said very little on the subject other than ‘the club had a difficult job in short space of time’ I have seen nothing else from the FF regarding the matter. I also find the comment regarding the club having better plans in place for the final as irrelevant. Selling a low allocation for an away game (something they had done well 23 times in the season previously) does not compare to selling 37,000.
Could you also raise at the meeting how the away ticket priority for 5 year season ticket holders will work from next season? It was made very clear in the selling of these tickets that 5 year holders would get priority over everyone else and I think (have not checked) it was stated in the contract they sent out.

JohnnyH2 - there was a great deal of e-mail correspondence between the Fans' Forum and the Club and discussion at Target 40k committee meetings about the Swindon ticket fiasco. This didn't need to be made public, but I'm sure that lessons were learned. Airman may choose to comment.
We'll add your questions about future ticket priority for 5-year ST holders to the growing list of agenda items for this week.
The OS said the fee for Shelvey was £1.75m, while on the SLP website there's a quote from Murray in which he says it was £3m. If possible it would be interesting to know which it is, and is it £3m after all clauses?
Following on from that, did the club agree a deal with Liverpool to take some young players on loan? If they did, will it just be for one season, or more long term?
In light of the recent governments decisions to be more transparent with everything can the club possibly follow this lead in communications with their fans?
It's strange how our fortunes have fared in comparison to the country whereby recently we have had some prosperous years followed by some very dark times. We are both in precarious positions at present but transparency can hopefully unite the club and fans.

Yeah, why bother informing the people you are supposed to represent

Do you really expect to see every piece of correspondence? Every e-mail, every text, every conversation written down for your benefit?

£1.7M up front, rising to a possible £3M depending on appearances & a sell on clause as well.

Was this not paid for or sponsered by a group last season?

No, not sponsored last year. I think Breamteam (boo) did some of the graphics hence that annoying fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiish thing.
I thought it was less than 50k TBH but can't be sure.

or pay it off to take away the negative energies it brings the team

A countdown clock for me is more important, and they can't be that expensive, but I suppose in these time, it's all expensive
