As people have said here-and correctly, even without the 10 pts docked they still would not be in the Play-Off places at present. I would have thought that with the team he has and the money at his disposal the Play-Offs were not out of the question given that the -10 points is effectively 3 straight defeats and a draw in points terms and given that you have 46 games a squad with their resources should still have made it. I would say that pound for pound and taking resources into account- as much as it pains me to say it- Kenny Jackett is possibly the best manager in League 1.Pardew does not even come close.
  • Well at least we went out to the eventual winners of the competition!
  • Pardews star is rising again, the charlton record has been removed, he is being heralded as a great manager and even West Ham fans are starting to want him back, they forget that many fans hated him, despite the FA Cup and never understood his buys or team selection.
  • Woooooooooooooooooo What a day!

Alan Pardew's red and white army!

Hopefully this will convince the ownership to keep him on until next Jan at least.

[cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]By who? He's doing ok because they had some decent players and he could buy more decent players from this league and the Championship. Eventually, even if it's 3 years time, it'll stop working for him.

I'd hardly say it's working now, even if you gave them back the 10 points they lost, they'd still be outside the play-offs.

He's doign a crap job and I'd be amazed if they didn't get rid in the summer, with the amount they've spent, even losing 10points should have made the play-offs, let alone not making them WITH the 10 points.

    Pardew, you're a joke of a man.

Funny enough, the majority of Saints fans would strongly disagree.
  • your see the mans true colours soon enough.
  • [cite]Posted By: nolly[/cite]your see the mans true colours soon enough.

And until then - He is doing a very soild job.
[cite]Posted By: The Prophet[/cite]With the resources they have they should win the league with ease next year and be in the Prem before 2013. Anything else would surely be a failure?
Prem by 2014 is the goal.
  • 'Best manager in League 1' was the quote of 2010 so far.

I suppose if you spend that sort of dough, you're going to win things like the Johnstone's Paint...
  • He still reckons they can make the play-offs this season. Only a twelve point gap to make up.

    There's positive-thinking and then there's Pardew bullshit....

The Saints fans on 606 last night sounded a right bunch of muppets. Match made in heaven, there, it seems.
  • What was his suit jacket over tracksuit all about too.

Well if we win our game in hand we will be only 9 points off the pace, Colchester and Huddersfield like to slip up at the moment.

Personally I'm not going to get my hopes up for the play offs, I've enjoyed this season after the administration crap last season and being days away from going bust.

Next season will be the one where everything is expected, I would like Saints to forget about the Cups (Unless we get those things down the road). With it looking likely that Brighton might spend big, it could be tough - But I suspect we will make a big signing or two in summer as well. Just aslong one of those big signing's isn't to replace the depature of Lallana, Lambert or Schneiderlin.

Oh and 606 is full of idiots all together.

    Tbf he should be ;)

He'd make a perfect partnership with Rooney.

    Rickie for England...

Haha, being serious though he is a fantastic striker who is playing at a level which is one below where he should be.

Best striker we've had here at Southampton since James Beattie.

    He stands at over 6ft3
    Rickie, Rickie
He'll take us to the Premier League
    Rickie, Rickie
He gets the ball, he takes the piss
He wears the shirt of Matt Le Tiss
Rickie Lambert - Southampton Goal Machine!

Really do think we might struggle to keep hold in the summer, no Championship clubs wanted to take the chance on him while at Bristol Rovers but I can see that changing now he's at Southampton.
  • I have always quite liked Southampton and am pleased to see them on the up after such hard times, I just wish that they were not being managed by that big nosed a***hole.

My view is that he won't be able to leave it alone in the summer and will make too many new signings and managed to balls the whole thing up for their "cakewalk" next season - although they are financially so far in front of everyone else that it is hard to see that happening.
  • I rate Phill Parkinson above Pardew...

Could be a fear but I really don't see what he would need to add to the squad as it is already decent enough to get promoted from this league in my opinion. I can see him making a couple of signings for back up and maybe a new CB (Jaidi will be a year older) and a new RB.

Your squad is decent enough but your manager isn't. You've got the 7th highest points total in the division if you factor out the points deduction (6th if you win the game in hand).

Even if your squad is good enough, I wouldn't be surprised with numerous unnecessary strikers being signed, despite you having the 2 top scorers in the division!

Well I reckon we will sign a striker in the summer - Hopefully Papa Waigo, but he is mainly used as a right winger.

What you lot don't know is that the players Pardew want are reviewed by the board and the scouts. If he wants to sign a couple of strikers I can see them saying 'what is the point while we've got Lambert?'.

One of the main reasons why we've got the 7th highest point total in the league is because of our leaky defence before January. Would be interesting to see where we sit since Fonte signed. Also that 10 games without a win while the team were strangers prob affected.

I don't believe there is a club where that isn't the case (the reviewing by board and scouts). But if he puts his foot down you could end up with another Martin Christensen on your hands - youngster given a 4 year contract on £5k a week with a £1k increase every season. Don't underestimate his influence.

  • I don't agree wih those that say that even with a 10pt deduction they should have made the play-offs. Don't get me wrong I can't stand the man but he brought in a lot of new players and then you start the season and you are -10 before you kick a ball in anger. I reckon the first few months it would have psychologically affected them as they'd win and still be x points in defecit and they'd be thinking will we get out of this? I don't think they'll make the play-offs but they will be within 5 points of them. Nailed on for automatic promotion next season, best squad in League 1 imo.
  • Fair point actually, not sure we'd have started this season as well with a 10 point deducation.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't at least make 3/4 signings in the summer. Even if they're a couple of unknowns, he loves signing players and taking a risk on a player in the hope he'll create a star. There's also bound to be a player that's done well for another League One or Two club that no one else can afford to buy. He'll have probably learnt some lessons from his time here, but that won't change the way he is always looking for that 1 more player to add to his squad.
  • One of the big problems with Pardew with us is that we brought him in as a saviour and the board were in a week position and allowed him to dictate his terms, hence no controls on him and he was like a kid let looose in a sweet shop. the Southampton chairman seems to have a strong back bone and has controls in place. It will end in tears, but I think not for a while and probably after they get to the championship.
  • If they can win at Bristol Rovers tomorrow night they're in with a great shout of the play offs.

    Remaining games:
    Yeovil A
    Oldham H
    Carlisle H
    Gills A
    Southend H

Huddersfield still have to play Millwall and Colchester so it's still possible.
  • that Rickie Lambert song is quality.....for me, someone like him is the difference between us getting 2nd spot and making the play-offs.

Would've loved him playing for us.
  • He made the BBC Quotes of the week page:

The game never really got flowing. We just wanted to play and Charlton wanted to play."
Southampton manager Alan Pardew after their 1-0 win over Charlton.
  • If Saints win tonight, i would not bet against them getting into the play offs and then going up. They will have momentum and I would fancy them to beat Leeds and us in the play offs.
  • Being linked with the Celtic job now.

Refused to comment about it to Sky Sports.
  • Oh lord, please go up there.
  • [cite]Posted By: JT[/cite]Oh lord, please go up there.

He would be a fool to leave Saints.

But we'd move on and snatch a manager from the league above I guess...
