  • "I am a fascist, not a racist".

The player has, in his autobiography, praised Mussolini as "basically a very principled, ethical individual" who was "deeply misunderstood".

There is still no black player in the Lazio squad and only a few years have passed since the Curva Nord, the stand where the ultras congregate for home matches, displayed a banner "Team of Blacks, Crowd of Jews" to taunt their counterparts at Roma, who are traditionally extremely Left-wing in leaning.

Di Canio, who has also played for Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic, maintains that he cannot see what the fuss is about.

No comment from me only Di Canio and some facts so please do not remove this.
  • Have to get paolo in, he's the ONLY MAN MAD ENOUGH TO TAKE THE JOB and that we can afford
  • ha ha would be an amazing gamble, but to be frank I'm not sure we have much to lose, there aren't any miracle workers waiting in the wings for a club like ours I'm afraid
  • Ralph,

Who gives a stuff about his political views (he is entitled to them just like you and I are). The fact someone may disagree with them gives us no right to say he's not welcome here.
All I care about is Charlton Athletic and who can sort this mess out, not their personal political views.
  • what about big ron atkinson. i reckon he we should be after him.

So what is it all about

the hoohah being made on here about dicanio

he is allowed to follow his views and politics like anyone else on here as long as he doesnt impose those views on anyone who doesnt wish them imposed upon themselves he is doing no wrong.

It is a free country FFS you can believe in what ever you wish some of you moan about the nanny state on here and then get off on telling people what is right or wrong I am a grown up and i will choose my own path
  • the politics are a complete irrelevence, so lets not use it as a chance for people to have yet another political rant. thank you
  • It's not really about his political views - I just don't think he'd be a good manager for us at the moment.

    Maybe never.

Billy Davies for me, with some tough Scottish love!

football based topics should be about the football not all the other bollx ,valley which unfortunatly this thread is turning in to

for the record i agree with your choice and my sentiment to dicanio is as a player and the fact that if he did end up with us it would piss hamsters off big style

on the other hand i reckon he would be a cheap option and wouldnt screw us for cash as he may have a loyalty to us for allowing him to go back to lazio
  • Maybe we would finally get that friendly we were promised as well....

  • can you imagine the score charlton 1 di canio volley Lazio 62
  • Odds down to 10-1 now, obviously some movement there, or, like me alot of hopeful addicts fans out there!!

wished i'd got involved when he was 25-1
  • Apart from stealing cars with Warren Barton, whats Rob Lee doing at the moment? He has the qualifications doesnt he?
  • edited December 2008
so Di Canio it is then. Glad we agree on it.

    Paolo DiCAnio

    Paolo DiCanio

Rob Lee quaified BA Hon in turn style management
  • Rob Lee rarely has a good word for Charlton, so I very much doubt it
  • Nasty car theif
  • I just put £10 on Clarke to be the next manager.

    Gone down to 8/1
  • [cite]Posted By: BigRedEvil[/cite]I just put £10 on Clarke to be the next manager.

how are we gonna pay compo?? and then be able to offer him any form of money to spend??
  • I guess there is nothing to lose by appaointing Poalo Manager. His passion is something the club needs.
    Infact I can see the headlines the day after his first game in charge;
    "Poalo Di Touch-Line-Banio"
  • Di Canio as player/manager, someone who can be an inspiration both on and off the field with someone to oversee him- an old experienced head like Keith Peacock who is CAFC through and through. Di Canio may also be able to bring some loanees of a better quality to the team from Italy. No-one complained of his politics when he was playing for us!

Parky isn't getting a reaction from the squad, they looked tired and unfit last night, commiting elementary errors- Toddy looked a class apart when he came on- he looked like a real footballer but appeared to clever for even his own team mates, we need more players of his calibre/quality, Di Canio is one of those so give him a chance I say.

Not really keen on the Di Canio shout but just had a thought.

What about Curbishley in charge till the end of season with Paulo his number 2, with a view to take over next season?

....actually, that sounds rubbish. More tinkering like with the Dowie management structure fiasco.
  • now down to 9-1
  • The next manager/Parky could lay allegiance to a lump of cheese for all I care, as long as the results turn around.
  • rALPH == = = Lazio have had black players before so bringing that up is bollox and irrelevant to the post.

Aaron Winter to name one playerd for Lazio when gazza was there.
  • Didn't West Ham have to pay a fair bit of money to get Chelsea to release Clarke or did they just let him go in the end?

If they did I can't see them letting him go for nothing?
  • Di Canio has zero experience of management and was last seen leaving Charlton shortly after signing a new contract when a better offer came in. Is that the sort of loyalty we want from our next manager?
  • As much as I love Paulo, he's too much of a headcase to be a manager for me
  • PAULO DI CANIO, PAULO DI CANIO - Bring him in as Motivation and Assistant Manager.
  • Having only just joined this site and read though the various contributions, i thought I may as well add mine, for what they're worth. A regular since 1974, I can honestly say that this is the worst I've seen during that time apart from the 1979/80 season. That was the last time we went down to the 3rd tier but in those days atleast there were little or no expectations and the downhill slide was gradual rather than the sudden shock we're feeling now.

As for Di Canio...lack of experience etc., after the 79/80 debacle we brought in Mike Bailey who had been managing the CASC bar behind the North stand!! Bailey managed to get us straight back up with more or less the same team.......so the right man could give the current lot a kick up the arse..so why not Di Canio ( or the current bar manager i suppose).

Go for it I say as mad as it seems...... he's a real one-off character and would certainly be the breathof fresh air we need around the place.
Plus my Italian Charlton supporting hair dresser from Catford Nick would love it!
