IThe reason Helton was brought in was so we could play and train “Nathan’s way” in pre season.wmcf123 said:

He would still score goals in league 2 and probably league 1 but I'd be very surprised if we gave him any sort of contract
we knew Miles wouldn’t be fit for the games but wanted to get the players to play in his way so he wanted a forward who could be boisterous up front - how he wants to play - but without overloading Ahadme and Chuks so early in the season.
NJ knows Hylton and what he’s capable of and he has EXACTLY the attributes and temperament he wanted. So he gets a full pre-season in his tank which, as an unattached striker is essential. And we get to play and practice our style of play
he doesn’t have his coaching badges so will not be joining us in that capacity

Hylton, It's been years since we had a really nasty guy to play for us that the other 23 clubs absolutely hate.Davo55 said:
Can't help thinking that Hylton would be a waste of a squad place. We are in much greater need of a creative, attacking midfielder if there's a squad place and enough budget going.Scoham said:
We don’t have room for another striker with Dixon and possibly Hylton joining the 6 we already have (including Campbell).Mortimerwasgod said:Am I right in seeing Stephen humphreys is a free agent still after leaving Wigan? Surely worth a kermorgant style punt?
Killer obviously, McKenzie, Melrose, Costa, Mills pre-xmas, Bowyer? Any more?2 -
Last season I posted that watching Charlton since 1967, I was struggling to remember any goalkeeper who was worse than AMB and Istead.MuttleyCAFC said:What people forget about AMB is for a keeper, he is still at an age where he can make jumps. There is no guarantee, but I think some people write him off a bit too easily.
Istead was terrible, but in my opinion he was still better than AMB.
If we are going with Mannion and AMB, we need to hope and pray that Mannion stays fit and injury free, because I wouldn’t want to see AMB anywhere near the first team.8 -

Nathan talked about AMB being in a better place - I wonder if he had completely lost his confidence but may have rediscovered it . He wasn’t as dreadful the year before . I agree - Isted and him were appalling , as was big Craig before that.Billericaydickie said:

It’s also a very smart move by Jones. Not a strategy most fans would have picked up on. Certainly not me.Swisdom said:

Imagine he's talking about the goalkeeper team altogether. We had Hamer for all but 4 of the games that season.ValleyGary said:

Saying that Thuram's 1 clean sheet in 4 games played is probably a better ratio than we managed last season...2 -
I know it's bad stats but just showing that potentially AMB was the worse of the two keepers we had last season.
AMB played 25 games, conceded 41 goals with 2 clean sheets.
Isted played 21 games, conceded 24 goals with 3 clean sheets.
Though it does show that AMB was obviously starting keeper for our Appleton era, whereas Isted played during Jones' management.2 -
Don’t you think Kanu is a serious first team prospect at Charlton already? Or failing that a serious member of a match day squad?CafcSCP said:
Kanu would suit them and turn him into a serious 1st team prospect.fenaddick said:
Only really Asiimwe would suit that though. The other young players are either too good for L2/not ready for L2. Maybe AMB but Jones clearly likes having 3 senior keepers aroundDiscoCAFC said:With Bromley in League Two now surely we should think about sending 1 or 2 players on loan to them as logistics wise it will suit everybody.
I get he needs consistent experience, but if we weren’t so reluctant to give ‘fringe’ first team squad members game time with the U21’s then there would be every chance of keeping Kanu fresh and ready.4 -

I would think there’s zero chance of Kanu being loaned.13
-
Based on last season, I'd suggest a loan would do Kanu well, he is still a great young prospect.
He has spent the summer with Jones, continued to learn a set style of play, and that may be what he needed to take that next step forward in our squad. Maybe Jones feels a loan isn't needed from what he's seen of Kanu.
I am excited to see how he gets on.0 -
Think he’s very much part of the first team squad. He’ll get plenty of game time this season.Dazzler21 said:Based on last season, I'd suggest a loan would do Kanu well, he is still a great young prospect.

Given the fitness question marks around Chucks and Leaburn, possibly Ahadme too, Kanu could only realistically go to non- league so he could be recalled in an emergency outside the window, in which case thats not really much in the way of development for him.
And if he does go to a league 2 side and we lose 3 of forwards we're playing Godden and Campbell without an option to change.
Not worth loaning him out imo9 -
Kanu and Anderson are both still improving but already have the energy needed for the pressing game NJ wants to play. I think that's why both featured so much post-Jan and expect the same again this year.9
-
Anyone who thinks Kanu needs a loan away from CAFC really doesn't understand what Nathan Jones wants from the potential 16 players that get on the field in the 90+ minutes of a match or the fitness he requires from the players in the 24/25 season over the slog of 46 matches.11
-
Has TC played more minutes in the forward role than Kanu?0
-
Kanu will play a key part this season in my opinion. Jones clearly likes him and why not.20
-
He could definitely develop into a better, more well-rounded goalkeeper. But he isn’t going to do that sat on his arse here all season. We need to bring in a number 1 and find AMB a loanMuttleyCAFC said:What people forget about AMB is for a keeper, he is still at an age where he can make jumps. First season since 2007/08 we have numerous front line options!5

It remains to be seen who starts tomorrow but given Godden has had a bit of stiffness and missed some games I think Jones would have been more than happy to start Kanu, he just might have been pipped by TC's preseason performances. I really don't think Kanu is going anywhere and nor should he12

5 clean sheets in total last season, no wonder I was on the point of packing it in, totally unacceptable.SELR_addicks said:I know it's bad stats but just showing that potentially AMB was the worse of the two keepers we had last season.

Here’s hoping for a lot lot more this season.4 -
I hope they do better than that lot did !I-SAW-POUSO-PLAY said:First season since 2007/08 we have numerous front line options!2 -
Isted didn't take his chance but the defence were visibly calmer with AMB not on the pitch. He's so twitchy and nervous, I think 90% of the game would just be Mitchell screaming at him. I don't necessarily need a keeper to be yelling at his defence all the time but if he could not radiate anxiety for 90 minutes that would be greatSELR_addicks said:I know it's bad stats but just showing that potentially AMB was the worse of the two keepers we had last season.

Id fucking hope so, I actually can't think of a time where we have gone this late into the window without settled keepers. Traditionally a position we do well in!fenaddick said:

Ross Wormer, John Sullivan, Connor Cough. We gave had ample keepers in the last 15 years worse than Ash (before anyone suggests as such, I am not saying Ash is even close to perfection, just less of a dead rudder as many seem to be suggesting)charltonbob said:
