ShootersHillGuru said:I think it’s worth remembering that it’s not Frasers fault that we offered him very good wages when we signed him or that his player profile doesn’t fit in with what Jones wants. His star has diminished in brightness since we signed him and the prospect of anything above league one has diminished with it. Hard to shift him because of the contract he’s on, that WE gave him. Not many league one clubs or his preferred Scotland can match it. Zero chance of Championship interest. None of which is the players fault. It’s a totally unsatisfactory situation but we shouldn’t be blaming Fraser for it.3

Fraser has not been seen in NJ training sessions. Is that the clubs choice or the player? He has never shown any inclination to buy into several managers ethos of had work. Fuck off Scott, and take a P45 with you, we have paid you enough for little return.0

And he's perfectly entitled to sit on the contract he's been given. We'd all be reluctant to take a pay cut from our place of work.

I've made very few posts here, but within a few minutes of the last when I said I wasn't expecting a signing, we announced a signing, so I've returned to predict we won't be making another signing any time soon. 🤞

Any news on that QPR goalkeeper? Seems to have gone quiet on that one.0 -

Certainly doesn't strike me as the kind of player who hates losing and is hungry.
I'm not bothered about what contract we gave him. He should have done a lot more and he mostly coasted.3 -

3 good ones gone, not convinced our recruitment is going to make us any better. CAFC TV auto renewed today so will have to continue watching from afar.

Without seeing us play a competitive game, it’s impossible to judge where we are. I feel (but no more than that) we are moving in the right direction but undoing so many poor (or terrible)’seasons (and signings) will not be rectified overnight. If we reach the play offs this year, it will a very good reversal of fortunes. At least, there seems to be a plan in place. The plan will go well or have bumps. It’s better than no plan and erratic recruitment.6

In the "normal" world, if you have a well paid job in London but want to return to elsewhere in the country for personal reasons, you'd accept the fact that your new employer in Cornwall or Newcastle or Aberdeen won't pay as well, and take the salary drop.24 -
Scott Fraser has been pissed as a fart at each end of season do.
He's "old school" in football terms. Can play a bit but sadly he's not got the appetite/bollox/desire to be anything more than a luxury player in League 1.
That's the height of his ambitions.
That's why he won't play for Nathan Jones again.
Good old Charlton and Tommy jnr and his "black box"
One decent season at MK Dons completely turned over Ipswich.... until Tommy jnr came along!
Pay him off. Ship.him out. Cover it with the Gomez sell on fee. He'll be a bad influence in and around the club.
Because it is never his fault19 -

I don't think anyone is arguing that he isn't honouring a contract. But he is openly saying he wants to move back to Scotland.
That is fine, but he can't play for us from there so he is essentially saying he wants out.
A move away from Charlton is as much his desire as it is likely the clubs. Both sides will need to compromise and find a meeting in the middle.
I find players like Fraser frustrating as he is a talented lad who could have played at a higher level but just didn't seem to have the right level of desire/hunger in him.3 -
4 more weeks of the window as it ends on Friday 30 August 2024 at 11pm GMT. I'm taking bets on how many pages we get to.0

Fraser holds the whip hand.
1 He takes a pay cut to move elsewhere.
2 The club pays part of his wage to facilitate a move.
3 The club pay up his contract.
4 He plays out his contract

Looks like we've lost out on another one of our goalkeeping targets. This time to some schoolchildren on the Isle of Wight.

Even the blurb for the POTY Charlton Live episode mentions "a very drunk Scott Fraser" as guest.0 -

I never understand the vitriol towards a player for doing exactly what’s best for him and his family’s future security. Why should Fraser cut and run ? If I was him I’d do exactly what he’s doing. Sit it out and see if the club offer to pay a good percentage of his salary, pay him off or a combination of either. He’s a professional footballer selling his talent to the highest bidder. He’s not a Charlton fan, he’s an employee. It would be great for both parties if it gets satisfactorily resolved but if not I don’t see either club or player at fault.22

The only major issue with him staying and honouring his current contract here is that Jones doesn't want to play him, and we don't want to pay his wages. Neither of those things are Fraser's problem.3 -
