Who will be the new Charlton coach? - p103. Nathan Jones confirmed

I'd be delighted if it were to be Jones but I'm just concerned about how our fanbase would be with him.
He's going to say some weird stuff in press conferences/post match interviews. Now I don't mind that sort of crap but some will not get him and unless we get off to a good start this could turn sour quickly.

He left Millwall because he wanted to move back north and spend more time with family. Zero chance we are going to persuade him to move back down south less than a year later and at the bottom of the league below.sam3110 said:I'd take Rowett over anyone else right now tbh4 -
Regarding Jones, I think he falls into a similar category that a lot of ex-Stoke managers - none of them in recent years could get it working there!
Bit of a downward spiral they have been on for some years now considering where they were for so long.0 -

It’s much easier to contextualise why a football player is league one quality compared to premiership quality.
But what is it that makes a manager better than another manager. I doubt it anything to do with work ethic, or IQ level though obviously they would help.0 -
Take the relegation comment out of it and that press conference from Fleming really highlights how Appleton didn’t get his communication right. That isn’t me saying get Fleming in obviously but just that it’s such an important thing1

Its impossible, too many variables involved to really quantify a managers impact.FishCostaFortune said:It’s much easier to contextualise why a football player is league one quality compared to premiership quality.

A few years ago would have been over the moon to get Nathan Jones. Met when he was at Charlton and always thought he'd do well. Very clever coach and a good motivator.ShootersHillGuru said:Must admit I’m wary of getting Jones. Comes across sometimes as a bit of a knob and does he like himself a bit too much ? Plenty of support for him on this thread though so I’ll bow to better knowledge than mine. One positive though. I’m guessing that in order to come to us I think he’ll have had plenty of assurances about team building. That can only be good.
But has had some weird things going on more recently. Agree that Stoke has been a graveyard for managers in recent years (I blame their HR Manager) and that Southampton we're probably going down regardless but some of his statements and decisions were strange.
Maybe he needs a re-set as much as we do.
BTW all you 80s kids, it's a Supremes song, not Bananarama.6 -
#cafc caretaker boss Curtis Fleming: "I had Bryan Robson as a manager for seven years. I'm not name-dropping him as a bit of a legend...he wasn't a brilliant coach but what a man, what a man - you'd go to war for him.

With all due respect, I think Rowett, and a lot of the other names mentioned on this thread, would rather wait for a bigger job to come along. And a better run club.18

Am I the only one who thought the Fleming interview was great? I've seen the comments about his "relegation battle" comments, but I think he's right. We're not.....yet. It's in our hands and on our side, especially with the new signings.
Give him a few games to see what he can do. At the end of the day, he IS a new shout. Only been here 2 weeks. Not more of the same.
Come on Curtis, prove me right!

Just googled Nathan Jones to jog my memory on him. Not sure I like the look of him lads. Can’t put my finger on it but there’s something about him that doesn’t sit right with me. Think he reminds me of someone

He's not that tough. Brad Pitt took him out in about 5 seconds. (In the film Troy, for those that don't get that reference)BetterCallSaul said:Just googled Nathan Jones to jog my memory on him. What people say are their reasons and what are the actual reasons are quite often very different. Not saying it’s not 100% accurate but just saying.cantersaddick said:

Good interview. I was impressed with his honesty and didn't avoid any questions. Don't agree about red flag but it was clear he wants our players to stop waving a white one.sam3110 said:I'm only 5 mins into his press conference but already a massive red flag where he's asked if we're in a relegation fight and he says no I don't think so.

Comment by a renowned poster on another forum suggesting that contact has been made with Jones. Was rather hoping that off the back of @jbaker post we might be a little further ahead than that but it is I suppose still early in the process.1

That's why we're going to end up with someone like Simon Grayson.MillwallFan said:With all due respect, I think Rowett, a lot of the other names mentioned on this thread, would rather wait for a bigger job to come along. And a better run club.3 -

Has anyone mentioned Jimmy Floyd Hasslebank? Knows the league and has some great experience from the England work.Club legend as well being an ex player. Ticks all the boxes....Might not get his arse through the door mind

Whether we are appealing enough is one thing, but I never bought the ‘want to be closer to home’ angle given when he left Millwall. I think it had run its course and he was getting out at exactly the right time.cantersaddick said:

He’s already lost the players. They’ve all turned their back on him.The Red Robin said:
Here he is. Looks like the lovechild of Bowyer and Riga.BigDiddy said:How about we get AI to design a manager for us?
Knowing our luck, it would end up like a Frankenstein!

Paul Hurst at 12/1 would be a great coup on the basis that he only bloody took over at Shrewsbury yesterday.king addick said:13 -
Well I’m blowed just listened to Curtis Fleming’s press conference and has quoted me almost verbatim, come on @AFKABartram own up he’s recently become a lifer hasn’t he 😉RedChaser said:
Agreed and the full backs are poor at defending, we need clean sheets and must abandon the Kevin Keegan we’ll score more than you approach 😤.ross1 said:Why Jones in defence?, TT has been playing better

We’ll see, maybe he fancies managing a bigger club 👍🏻MillwallFan said:With all due respect, I think Rowett, and a lot of the other names mentioned on this thread, would rather wait for a bigger job to come along. And a better run club.5
