At the first sign of any trouble over our transfers: missing a target, delays, window deemed not good enough, etc.. People will blame Martin Sandgaard.8

Let's all hope Martin rapidly develops a realistic appreciation of his own level of expertise vis-a-vis those he is working with, and proves to be a good member of the team.Weegie Addick said:Agree we should be supportive. I nevertheless expect MS to have a major role in player identification from what TS himself has said. He certainly believes his son knows as much about the game as seasoned pros.5 -

There's no obvious bad guy in recruitment now.
I don't expect too many changes to the recruitment set up, it wasn't necessarily bad in the summer, just, as per JJ own words, too "reactive" rather than proactive.
I just hope we get some decent conspiracy theories and even more brain fart logic tbh.

GED RODDY has resigned as Charlton’s Technical Director after 14 months to take up a key role with Fifa.
From January 1st, he will take up a lead role on Fifa’s Global Talent Development Scheme, which is about to be launched. Roddy joined Charlton in October 2020 and was the first senior off-field hire of the Thomas Sandgaard era.

The strong point on Roddy's CV was always his work with academy players, particularly Team Bath many years ago. Developing young players is a very different skill-set to involvement in transfer policy for professionals, so it's not particularly a surprise it didn't work. But it's also potentially a very good thing if he does intend to stay involved in the academy plans as a consultant. And if not, then the FIFA role does sound like a better fit for him. As with Adkins, I bear him no ill will, I just don't think he was the right fit for what we needed.6

Chines i agree with you but rightly so. What’s the guys experience? I’m concerned about the whole situation. We’ve now decided to go in a different with even less football knowledge at the club. What’s improved?Chunes said:At the first sign of any trouble over our transfers: missing a target, delays, window deemed not good enough, etc.. However Gallen and the owners son? This doesn’t sit right with me. Fully understanding Roddy and Adkins weren’t the right choices either.
I would just like to hear and see a clear identity of what we are now trying to do in the medium to long term.1 -
And probably will continue to be until his contract expires.killerjerrylee said:Roddy is injured0 -
You'll know this, of course:addick1956 said:Has Roddy really gone ? Will it be better now? Will it be worse? Who knows ? I am sure I don't know ? One thing is sure. People at CAFC sure do like to employ their sons.
Does JJ have a son ?
Mike Gliksten at the age of 23, became chairman of the club when his father Stanley died.

Of course he will because he isn't "proper Charlton" unless he is then it will be who ever the "outsider" is that we can blame.Chunes said:At the first sign of any trouble over our transfers: missing a target, delays, window deemed not good enough, etc.. People will blame Martin Sandgaard.1 -
Surely proper Charlton has changed over time , we used to be a steady second tier team
now we’re a junk middle of the road club in this shithouse league
Current proper Charlton is utter shitI’m a football snob get me out of this nightmare of third tier tedium and local clashes against fucking gillingham and Wimbledon fffs zzzzzzzz10 -

I can't blame Thomas, because... it's Thomas
I like Steve Gallen he's worked wonders
Jackson is a ledge
Martin is Thomas' son and he's just here to watch Gallen anyway....

Ged gets hounded out of the club, and it’s all falling apart.2

is his son still with us ?0

I thought I read that TS appointed his son because someone at the club was not doing what he asked ...... Roddy?0

Seriously, why do think some TS is not going to be around long ?5

I think the cost of running a football club is going to be far more than he imagined it would be.ShootersHillGuru said:Seriously, why do think some TS is not going to be around long ?
His overall ambition was to take Charlton into the premier league and European football.
He is struggling with the budget he has set to even get us out of league one.19 -
I think the worrying thing also is that he will see that even chucking money at it won't guarantee success ie Ipswich.blackpool72 said:

Unless you are silly multi billionaire rich with money to burn floating around the 3rd division is only going to have finite appeal particularly as you point out if premier league and European football before 2050 were a consideration when taking the club on.0 -

The budget isn't the problem, it's how it's been spent. Watson and Gunter are on a fortune.blackpool72 said:

I’m not sure I buy into the theory that TS, as an astute and very successful businessman was so nieve as to not look or at least have people look at the finances of CAFC and football in general in league one and how he wanted to progress. We’d have to assume he was an idiot. I’m not saying you’re wrong and that he won’t be around for more than a couple of years because who knows. I just don’t buy into those particular reasons and if I’m wrong and it’s true that he’s a financial idiot then we’re bang in trouble.3

I agree with you entirely that he's not an idiot.ShootersHillGuru said:I’m not sure I buy into the theory that TS, as an astute and very successful businessman was so nieve as to not look or at least have people look at the finances of CAFC and football in general in league one and how he wanted to progress. The fact that he has developed a multi million pound medical equipment business is testament to that.
But like a lot of successful business people from other types of business they believe they can run a football club in a similar way.
Football is unlike any other industry in as much as making money is concerned.
I really hope I'm wrong as I would love him to stay here for years and be a success.
But my gut instinct is that he will be gone within three years as he realises how much success will cost him.

The problem is, it's football finances though. Airman often gives a good account of how it all works out, I'm sure Sandgaard can fund it at a base level BUT it's those football industry variables that are the problem.
Sacking managers before the half way point of a season, watching expensive loan and perm signings flop etc.
That happens over a couple of seasons and you're sitting around wondering if it's worth it and are you just chucking millions into a black hole.
