Glad he's not been brought in to do a role thats similar to Steve Avory's as wasnt that his role @ Reading?0
-
Think so. This is hopefully overseeing Avory, Bowyer and Gallen etc.ForeverAddickted said:Glad he's not been brought in to do a role thats similar to Steve Avory's as wasnt that his role @ Reading?
A similar role to his time at the PL11 -
Looks like he's a board level appointment and will have a strategic focus that's longer term.

An impressive appointment this. Shows that TS has vision. It's telling that he has a wide network of contacts in the game.22
-
Dave Jones would have been a better option.172
-
he's certainly got an impressive CV.....good that TS specifically mentioned him working with LB, SG and SA4
-
In 1995, I attended trials for the South of England Universities representative side, which was held at Bath Uni and which he was running. I played a blinder. He didn't select me. Cock.

Sounds great on paper, and he seems to have seen our potential
along with Thomas, so, hopefully a good appointment.
Thomas seems to be getting his people in place0 -
slipped under the radar thenSporadicAddick said:In 1995, I attended trials for the South of England Universities representative side, which was held at Bath Uni and which he was running. I played a blinder. He didn't select me. Cock.

I wonder if he'll act a bit like a Tommy Driesen where Gallen will partly need his approval to get a signing over the line
Only this time we have someone a bit more sensible and experienced doing that role0 -

Can't say I've heard of him but he certainly has an excellent CV. Looks a good appointment.1

So, what does a technical director do exactly?

Looks a good appointment, but there may be some overlap with the current roles of Gallen and Avory3
-
Well I think the training ground/academy renovation would be high on his list.aliwibble said:So, what does a technical director do exactly?4 -
Sends anyone with a Technical question to the right person 🤷♂️aliwibble said:So, what does a technical director do exactly?13 -
Really impressive background -Good to have someone with Gravitas at the club in a senior position. Stark contract to Katerin ETC8

He probably recognised your form would be rather sporadic!SporadicAddick said:In 1995, I attended trials for the South of England Universities representative side, which was held at Bath Uni and which he was running. I played a blinder. He didn't select me. Cock.

where does this leave Basey ? .. back doing the washing ?1

Doesnt his role provide a link between the U23s and Senior team, supporting youngsters players out on loan?Lincsaddick said:where does this leave Basey ? .. back doing the washing ?
So his role is a bit between Bowyer and Euell2 -
From someone who admittedly doesn't fully understand how football clubs operate, I am concerned that this is another level of management for the two Steves, who are both absolute crown jewels as far as the club is concerned. Hope this new guy doesn't start treading on toes that don't need to be trodden on. Would be interested to know the view of the two Steves (now and in a year's time).7

I think he's basically TS's "football man" - TS is the CEO but if he needs to consult or have opinions on football matters then this is where Geddy comes in.aliwibble said:So, what does a technical director do exactly?
Not to denigrate Bowyer or Gallen but to free them up to do their day jobs a bit more.6 -
if it doesn't work, he turns it off then back on againaliwibble said:So, what does a technical director do exactly?15 -
This is more similar to a DOF role right?1

I love football forum analysis. We are guessing both the positives, negatives, alongside the risks and rewards in the appointment of somebody we hardly know, in a role we hardly know anything about.22

I'm encouraged. Impressive CV. Let's face it we've had people reaching and covering gaps in the structure for years. Steve Gallen should be running the scouting and player acquisition operation for example, not being forced to give witness evidence in court proceedings as if he was the CEO. Most wanted a football person to come in to give Thomas the expertise he perhaps lacks in the industry. He is here after a few weeks.
Hopefully this means Lee and Steve x2 can focus on their jobs and be properly supported and not spend half their time doing jobs that should be someone else's.36
