https://crewe.nub.news/n/crewe-1-cheltenham-mandron-strikes-as-kirk-sits-out-opener-ahead-of-move“Charlie Kirk watched the 1-1 draw from the Main Stand and it is understood the attacker is poised to sign for League One rivals Charlton Athletic with the Addicks renewing last season’s interest in the attacker.”
Afterwards boss Artell said the reasons for the omissions of Kirk and Hoban would become clearer in time.
But he admitted: “It’s been a tough week. Once everything is sorted out we will make an announcement, but nothing has happened yet.”

Surely that’s a good sign? Means we’re optimistic of getting someone better, or at least that’s the way I see it. If we were skint or not looking to pay to bring in more bodies, signing up Madger Gomes would have been the easy option.Callumcafc said:26 -
Murmurs the Crewe end that our bid of 400k has been accepted after not getting him for 500k in January.Probably would explain why it’s dragged on so long if Crewe wanted that extra 100 grand we offered six/seven months ago.2

Pleased we're not signing Gomes.3
-
Kirk is exactly the sort of signing a promotion team from league one would be making - would be a brilliant signing21
-
That's how I see it. Gomes is the "needs must" fall back option, if we can't get the first choice then he'll do in a pinch but he's certainly not someone we seem desperate to sign as if NA really wanted to sign him, he surely would have done so already.JoshAddick said:

Think LW was a real weakspot today, Washington went missing at times. We definitely need 4-6 players, 4 minimum.8

I do not see any good evidence we have replaced Aneke's 15 goals. And without those 15 last year we would be mid to lower half of the table. "Bodies" alone does not get the job done, imo, if the goal is promotion or even playoffs.
Football isn’t as simple as plugging player X in and adding 15 goals.
Wanna put some money on that prediction? We finished 4th in the division in goals (70) scored last season and I see no way we come close to that in 2021-22. How is a £20, payable via Venmo or PayPal? Very happy to lose that money if you are proven correct.

Hmm, it's moments like this I wish we had access to match stats - as though he may not been super creative when he got the ball in attacking positions - he popped up everywhere and was a big reason Wednesday never created anything of note.charlton_hero said:Think LW was a real weakspot today, Washington went missing at times. Can't see him supplying or scoring much from LW this season, sorry. He needs to be played down the middle imo.FishCostaFortune said:

I'd say 4-6 is right. Would like for it to start with Charlie Kirk, that would be a bit of a statement signing.
Playmaker for me is the other place if there's any budget for fees left that I'd look to spend as opposed to loan . Just think some of these PL loans that have only played U23s can look a bit lightweight in midfield.
Striker I wouldn't mind someone that's a bit like a Leko that can also cover wide . I don't know if someone like an Ellis Simms might still be available from Everton or if he's got championship interest.1 -
We definitely need another striker2
-
Agree with this. In a way I'd prefer to play a 4-4-2 because his movement and Stockley's ability to drop in and hold up the ball feels like it could cause havoc.charlton_hero said:

I really think we already have DJ. Creative flair that goes missing. Don’t want 2 of thoseMarcusH26 said:I'd say 4-6 is right. Would like for it to start with Charlie Kirk, that would be a bit of a statement signing.

Yes we do, as a minimum, so when one goes missing you bring the other one onesseffect said:

You can't add players to a squad and expect the same output. By that thinking, the year we brought in Ajose and Novak they should've scored 40+ goals between them... They didn't.NapaAddick said:Callumcafc said:

Also, Chuks' output was a bit of an anomaly - he had never scored that many goals before (and scored in that many minutes per goal).
With the upgrade in athleticism in midfield, it should mean we also actually get in front of opposition players a bit more rather than allowing them uncontested shots at our goal. If we can keep Innis and Famewo for, we should not concede the same amount of goals too. That also might possibly be where we make up the 15 goals from.3 -

I'm sure I read somewhere that the reduced fee of 400k is being negotiated with a sell-on and other add-on clauses.Callumcafc said:Murmurs the Crewe end that our bid of 400k has been accepted after not getting him for 500k in January.Probably would explain why it’s dragged on so long if Crewe wanted that extra 100 grand we offered six/seven months ago.

If we have got Kirk (please let it be true, quality signing at this level) then that means well be getting 5 in before the window closes. There's no way we're not going to use the available 4 remaining match day squad loan slots. I think we'll probably get at least one more perm in addition to Kirk, so that means we should be 6-7 players better off than we are right now.
Would have been nice to get it done earlier, but I think we'll be more than happy with the squad we end up with.1 -
My comment was more about not replacing Aneke's goals, not us scoring more goals overall.sam3110 said:

We need more creativity than Morgan for that.0 -
Is jephcott still happening?3

Well, if Kirk is true, and being a Charlton fan I am somewhat sceptical. That would mean that in terms of permanents so far we would have brought in MacGillivray, Dobson, Clare, Stockley and Kirk (and technically Famewo).randy andy said:If we have got Kirk (please let it be true, quality signing at this level) then that means well be getting 5 in before the window closes. For me, that's seriously impressive work.5
