Not maybe the most sensible business decision but at least we would know that the extra £100-200k or whatever it is would massively help out a national league outfit in the current climate. I know we are not a charity but that sort of money is peanuts to TS especially with the Bonne & Grant money. if the gamble doesn't work its not exactly a costly one!
Sandgaard has already confirmed that money is going to have to go towards the losses he's making what with COVID and the state of the club

He'd supplement our other forwards and we wouldn't necessarily depend on him. I know we only have room for 1 or 2 more players, but given a choice between him and Sorba Thomas, surely the one with league experience is preferable for a promotion push? Or we sign both!
Because a few articles call him a forward rather than a winger so some look at the stats and decide he’s an inexperienced striker who doesn’t score goals.
There will be a social media meltdown if he signs before the striker is announced.

100% in agreement. Part of me was hoping the departures of Lapslie and Oztumer meant we were preparing a decent bid for one. If it's Smyth I can't see us finishing anywhere near the top 6.
The Boreham Wood statement goes on a bit and, as well as pushing is us to increase our bid and sending a message to the player and his agent, it is probably also designed to encourage offers from any of the other clubs referred to.
Hopefully a deal can be done, although perhaps the loan signing of the QPR winger means that it’s off.

The statement is clearly a rallying call for a bidding war, why else would he list all of the other clubs.
Quite odd for a chairman to publicly do that, I guess they actually need some money today.
Quite possibly so but at least he has had the balls to put it in "black and white" and not it to a press contact. Why would you do that unless you wanted to unsettle the player? I haven't seen any of the other mentioned clubs' media links announcing that they were interested in the player but, possibly, it is out there?

I'm with you on this, we need goals in the team, we didn't score enough last season to achieve our aim, and won't score enough this season, with Smiffy in the side, i'm fully prepared for a big slice of humble pie , if this fella signs and scores a hatful, probably better to sign someone where our expectations are low, rather than a Hemed who we thought was going to be a star.

That is not "messing Charlton about" but trying not to be mugged off like Charlton were with Gomez, and the double whammy of Walsh and Elliott to Luton.
If they are only a bit short then this really should get sorted.

You sound certain about this. But I’m just gonna say I’ve seen him play once, Sunderland V Accrington it was 2-2 on sky the season we got promoted and he played up front as a number 9. He scored and was a menace the entire game.

Phillips is a very good shot stopper but his kicking severely lets him down. Also not great at commanding his area and punches/flaps a little too much for my liking. Is he better than Amos, possilbly but not enough for him and his agent to be dicking around.
I am pretty sure Amos wouldn't have signed if he knew Phillips would be here. If they are both still here tonight, one of them is going to be royally pissed off and, on balance, that deserves to be Phillips.
But then did Amos stay because of the difficulties players are having with finding new clubs thanks to COVID and this salary cap?

And a 15 to 18 goalscorer from now is what we need to be a top 6 contender.
Surely we should come up with a deal with a bit up front, rest based on appearances, future sell on, if he's really that good, then they'll get what they are looking for?
