I'm not really sure how to feel.
I get that Smith might turn out to be a great singing along the lines of Gallagher and I'm excited to see him play. I also think McGeady is a decent bit of business as provides some cover for Williams.
But that being said, I do feel like I was expecting a bit more from this window. Considering we had the lowest budget in the league at the start of the season, if the budget is much different now then why have we only signed a few players on loan?5 -
Anyone remember a certain Scott Sinclair that joined and did nothing and then went on to smash it.Fingers crossed1

Charlton sign WALES midfielder Matt Smith on loan from Man City.
Makes it sound like we have signed somebody people will know.
I'm not trying to be obtuse or a kill joy but a 20 year old who has not played a single game for Man City & only 6 times at all this season is not really "breaking news"3 -
Man City are not in the habit of dishing out 5yr contracts for fun.
Chelsea and Man City do not hoover up players. They hoover up players with talent.
It may have escaped your notice but that is how this industry now works.
I may be wrong but I believe this Matt Smith was, like Andre Green, on our shopping list in the Summer possibly before Sam Field and Connor Gallagher who signed in early August. I believe we were recorded as expressing an interest in early July when he signed for QPR.

He has a season in a senior league with FC Twente last term, where he was a regular in the Dutch side which won the Eerste Divisie.

Its not compulsory to get excited about every single signing Charlton make, the same way it’s not compulsory to jump if someone shouts boo.
Its only chewing the fat on a message board. Doesn’t mean if someone is underwhelmed they’re not going to support that person 100% when they play for us.1 -
We offered a contract to ensure we got compensation. No idea about the sell on though.Dazzler21 said:

Sky suggested there's an issue where West ham want to put a relegation clause which cuts his salary by 50%. Of course player and agent not happy with that!paulie8290 said:Jarrod Bowen getting 80k at West Ham shows how crazy Football wages have got0 -

Hopefully Bowyer can do the same with him as with Gallagher.3 -
You are literally insane. And the Gallagher thing went great. He won us points that we're desperately grateful for now. The youth players sadly have proven that they can't handle it, hence our failure to win almost all the games we've played since they were thrown in. Which is why we've won one game since 23rd October. To be honest, I don't think I'd get a contract at Charlton, but if I did I imagine we'd lose matches and I'd need to have a better player brought in ahead of me. Y'know, like the situation we have now anyway.Sid James Fan Club said:
Oh yeah, That Gallagher thing went well... remind me where is he playing now? In case you hadn’t noticed that’s your academy, and yes with senior pros returning absolutely as they’ve already proved they can handle it. Unlike Gallagher they did not have that luxury when they were thrown in the deep end. Might I suggest you get your boots and let’s see how good you really are as you seem to know your stuff.Garrymanilow said:
This again. Jesus. This is exactly what you said about Gallagher. The 'bright lights' nonsense came out when we got Conor in and he was on target to our player of the season. He's not a pointless signing if he plays well and keeps us up, how can you not see that? Or we can persevere with the likes of Morgan, Dempsey, Davison and Vennings in the first team. The first team that's won one game in 17. Think.Sid James Fan Club said:
Your still missing the point I could not give a hoot if they were, the point is he ain’t one of them and he does not belong to Charlton, so either way he’s a pointless signing who will essentially only Benefit City’s and his pockets. Your looking at bright shiny lights of city’s money and convincing yourself it must be better...cafc_se7 said:
Youngsters from City are going to be a cut above our youngsters whether you accept that or not! Albie and the likes need to develop elsewhere and come back! Bowyer is obviously doing this for a reason!Sid James Fan Club said:
That’s not what I’m saying - I’m referencing the general obsession on getting new signings and the only ones Charlton seem to look at are other people’s future profit. He’s already not done much at QPR yet now it’s ok to ignore the youth who have been thrown in the deep end these past weeks. With senior players retuning surely it’s now you keep the Charlton youngsters involved?Davo55 said:
Do come off it. No-one can sensibly argue that Charlton fail to give youngsters their shot in the first team.Sid James Fan Club said:ValleyGary said:34 games last season in the Dutch top flight. Can’t be too bad.
Hopefully Bowyer can do the same with him as with Gallagher.Oh please, the usual obsession with other clubs youth player being better nonsense, he could not even get in QPR’s side! Another waste when Charlton should be doing something with their kids not Man City’s

3 hours left for any of our youngsters to go out on an EFL loan. Maloney and Wiredu had fairly unsuccessful loan spells, the former seems to have regressed as a result

Tbf I think it was the Dutch 2nd flight, which is more like L1/L2 level.ValleyGary said:
He’s a product of the best youth academy in the country, played 34 games last season in the Dutch top flight and has 7 full international caps for Wales. Something tells me Bowyer may feel he’d be more ready for senior football than Dempsey.Sid James Fan Club said:
