Awful performance not helped by a dreadful ref who allowed them to play every trick in the book. How many times did their players go down holding life threatening injuries only to be heading and kicking the ball with those broken limbs.

I remember Charlton vs Preston in a rainy midweek game at the Valley against Charlton team fancied to win. An unfancied Preston team out worked Charlton and won 2-1.

Again today Preston worked hard, pressed up the pitch, won the midfield battle and allowed Charlton no time on the ball. Lack quality up front and if they had a decent striker would have won by more.

The injuries of Lyle Taylor, Jonny Williams and Field and absence of championship quality of Taylor and WIlliams negatively impacting the team.

Conor Gallagher was excellent but he can't do everything. Phillips made some decent stops and Prately battled well. Kayal was disappointing. Sarr was really shaky. Limited attacking threat.

Won't be saving a recording of the game.
    Preston deserved to win.

To be fair to the ref, he did add 7 (which became 8) minutes
  • Well that was not worth forcing myself to get out of bed with a hangover for.

If I was watching that at home I would have fallen asleep.

We just didnt get into the game and didnt get any time on the ball.

Showed them far too mich respect in the first half. The difference between this match and the leeds one is that we forced leeds to play infront of us whereas we let preston through plenty of times.

Lots of uncharacteristic errors both defensively and when all the ball in trying to do too much. I don't think they were actually that good we just made them look good. If we were on our game we would have beaten them. But we really weren't.

They played such a high line and Bonne was always on the shoulder I don't get why we didnt try a ball over the top for him to run on to. I would fancy him to beat bauer in a race any day.

When we bought Chucks on his first touch was a ball aimed at his head which he flicked on to Bonne. Then we didnt try the same again until the end of added time.

Less said about the ref the better.
  • Disjointed and off the pace. Was hoping we would come out stronger in the second half but we’re actually worse. They managed the game well and stopped us from doing anything. Thought we were poor across the park
  • Definitely ready for Millwall now!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I hate football these days.
  • Last time I felt like we were outplayed and outthought like this was Shrewsbury in the playoff semis.

Overall don't think we can grumble to much about where we are, still didnt get smashed, and didnt lose any players for the Millwall game

Lee Bowyer on interview after the match - Charlton sloppy and not at it. Disappointed with Pearce for penalty and missed chances. Injuries difficult, we have a squad, keep doing the right things in training. Preston surprised by being direct. Lee Bowyer (not angry just) very disappointed. Players coming off the bench and not making an impact. Some Players not doing the right things and there is no space in the team for players to be carried. Looking for a reaction against Millwall. Charlton will be ready.

Sounds like someone regrets bringing off the Nabster ;)

Very disappointing game, we did not seem to get our passing together at all. Callagher was my MOM, he did not play at his best but he never stopped and kept giving us hope something may happen. Pratley the kingpin, especially in the first half, where he broke up so many attacks, although lucky not to get his 5th yellow card. I could not see what Aneke brought to the game and the jury is still out on Kayal. Never mind if we win next week, all will be forgiven

Awful. Looked bang average with 3 at the back and completely shite with a back 4. Utterly devoid of attacking threat. Did Bonne have more than 10 touches in the second half?

Ground looked empty on TV and zero atmosphere as well.

Poor all over the park. We had opportunities but we're so wasteful in the final third. Purrington hits a one on one straight at the keeper, and slices it in front of an open goal, Bonne air shots 12 yards out etc, the better teams are clinical and that's why we're slipping down the table.

Nothing to panic about yet but we've typically hit a poor bit of form just before Millwall.

Preston were anti-football, time wasting and diving all over the place. If they're up there at the end of the season playing like that then it's a travesty.

Think he was more disappointed with the players coming off the bench. That would be Leko and Aneke. Maybe the players coming into the team as well.  Naby Sarr had a really shakey half and was on a yellow. No arguments there. On similar shakey grounds there Leuth.

I think Otzumer on for Kayal earlier would have been better. Not sure how much difference that would have ultimately made to the result.

Tough team PNE and even toward the end when away teams sit back we couldn’t get the ball out of our own half. Missed players like Williams who can create something out of nothing. Naby Sarr had a shocker first half and we were better second half when we went 4 at the back. Am never down after losing a game with this team though as you know what they are capable of.

We were better for about 5 minutes and then we were abysmal for 40

One shot on goal (Purrington) at home in 90 + mins says it all.

Beaten by a team that’s pretty similar to us in many aspects.

Hard workers, dirty at times, cynical, but could also play some good football. They nullified us and whilst a draw probably would’ve been a fair result, I’ve not come away from that feeling particularly aggrieved. Though not sure if we take the p*ss quite as much when it comes to time wasting ‘injuries’.

Frustrating day all round. Now on to Millwall...

Aneke didn’t do bad when he came on considering we didn’t have any of the ball in the last ten mins . Won his first header and got stuck in. Thought our fullbacks were woeful as was Sarr and Kayal

As Bowyer just said, all 11 players need to be on it for the entire game. They weren't & so we lost. Our strength is our energy & our commitment.....today we had neither.  Too many lacklustre performances & once PNE got ahead there was no coming back.

Really missing Taylor & Williams.....as well as JFC at left wing back & Sam Field to a lessser extent. With those fit you wouldn't see Kayal or Oztumer starting.

Not panicking atm & we are better off than I thought we would be come November. Just frustrating that we save our worst performances for the tv. Only one winner from today......that LB gets them really fired up for next saturday. Lose that one then the International break will be a right downer.

Looked like most of the team were out on the piss last night.
Preston weren’t very good they were a ugly northern side - who will not be going up despite sky thinking they are already up.

    shots on target

    Charlton 1
    preston 5

looks like we are starting to be found out
we can bitch and moan about the ref - but we were dog, created nothing and got nothing 1 point out of 3 games.

as a side note Gallagher don’t start with the diving it makes you look like a dick
I wouldn’t say we’re starting to be found out, but I hope lessons can be learnt from today.  Blackpool72 made a good point in that you can’t be at your best every game, and I felt, unfortunately, too many of them had an off day.  Solly and Purrington struggled with both their defensive and offensive duties, the ever reliable and solid partnership of Pearce and Lockyer didn’t have good games.  The movement from the the midfield was absent and Bonne showed that despite how well he’s done in the last month, he still needs time to adapt to the step up, particularly as he was doing it all up top on his own.  A hard ask for anyone, let alone someone who was playing non league last season

Preston edged it and deserved their win.  They were a bit more adventurous than us, albeit very direct, but that’s up to us and Bowyer to work out a way to deal with that.  Everything felt a bit lethargic today, not just on the pitch.

Let’s hope they learn and we regroup for next week.  I have every faith we will and I look forward to (fingers crossed), breaking the hoodoo at the Den

I don't think we're actually that wasteful, we just create a lot less than other sides so it comes across that way.

    .
  • 12pm on a Sunday is just a crap time for football. And it's set up for the away team. Everyone in the stands is half asleep, routines all out of sync. Ruined the whole thing for me.

Was the pen blatant? Couldn't fully see from North Lower.

Comments on Aneke a little harsh imo. Not sure how much he could do with the service given.
Thought he could have done better at the far post from Cullen's free kick, but not much wrong other than that.
