  • Another performance that did not deliver the goals it deserved. Hopefully that glut of goals is waiting for Saturday. Well done Gillespie with the late trickly header and then at the end being a reluctant hero being pushed to the covered end for his well deserved round of applause.

    Thought Smalls end product was a step back in time today and he'll need to refocus for Saturdsy.

    Birmingham will come at us on Saturdsy but providing we hold solid in defence we could come away with something.
  • Macca was my MOM today. He was close before the goal, and what an important goal it was for so many reasons:

    It kept us in the play-off places;
    It prevented an effective 1-0 against ten men; we struggled after the sending off for a while;
    It was a performance that deserved a victory, and we eventually got there;
    We've broken the Peterborough hoodoo;
    It sent a few thousand very cold fans home happy;
    Peterborough were not a good team, totally reliant on counter attacking with pace.They were there for the taking.

    We just don’t give up do we. Posh rode their luck and then disrupted the game to slow it down and frustrate us. But we still came back to win. We were unlucky not to get 3 or 4 but a win’s a win. Up the table we go!

    Onto Brum! We’ll give them a good go.
  • The target points from the last batch of games has been met now onto Birmingham! Is it a free hit following the recent points picked up ?
  • A fantastic evening that I will remember for a long time. Over the last few months since taking up my advisory role with the board I have stayed (and will continue) to be a bit quieter on this forum. But my experience as match sponsor with my business, and for my son who is currently on a weeks work experience at the club and joined me, has been absolutely first class.

    My son is generally a bit anxious socially and has been made to feel so welcome in the boardroom and offices. Everyone has been wonderfully welcoming for him and he has loved it this week. A huge personal thank you to the club on that one.

    Went for Macca as Man of the Match - sometimes you have to go simple. He scored the winner and got us out of it, and also was as solid as anyone at the back.

    Good for you and your son mate. That goal was enough for MOM but he played well besides that. COYR.

    If one of our players had made the tackle that led to the red card we'd all be (rightly) fuming, not complaining but wow, what an awful decision

    So you disagree with both managers who thought it was a red.

    Jones reckons that the Referee got all the big decisions right, both penalties and red card
    Jones looks a different man now! much more comfortable.

    I also speak on behalf of Charlton and Posh fans when I say that ref was awful. Was utterly determined to be the star of the show.

    Got all 3 big decisions wrong. Both weren't pens and it was never a red.
    I actually think the red was fine, wasn’t in control, over top of the ball and caught the man half way up his shin studs up. Both pens were very soft though.
    The pen we conceded, it looked to me that the contact was just outside the box before the opponent did his long jump?

    I watched it on the stream and it is outside the box, is it late challenge ? no it's hard for Ramsay to keep away from the players heels if he wants to make a challenge, I think the ref gave it and wasn't sure he had it right so bottled the sending off. The other sending off and Charlton's penalty were both correct, harsh perhaps but if we had VAR they would have upheld both decisions.
    Other than dangerous play, it's only a sending off if it was a 'clear goal scoring opportunity'.

    Obviously it wasn't.

  • I agree. Ref was fine.

    Confidence beginning to ooze through the side.
    Never give up.
    Still a lack of quality in the final third.
    TC harasses the hell out of people but 1 goal and 1 assist in 26 league games isn't good enough return
    Gillesphey great header but he was all over the place first half hour.
    Gilbert looks decent on the ball.  Great corner for the goal.
    Connor and the Captain are beginning to show their worth.
    Lloyd Jones was excellent.
    Godden looked sharp.

    Dare I say it.  The play offs look very reachable.

    I would still like Dizzie replaced.  Hoping the new signing adds a little bit more quality defensively.

    TC has 2 goals and 6 assists in the league according to the last statbank thread. Another assist tonight if his shot to win the penalty is counted too.
    LEAGUE GAMES sir

    Sadly his stats are as follows (my bad he has 2 goals and 1 assist in 29 league games).  My comments still stand.  He needs to deliver more.

    Ps his "shot" for the penalty was going wide.  I sit right behind the goal.  But he did shoot.  We did get a penalty.  But it isn't an assist.  Like him hitting the bar Saturday.

    I talk more about clean through first half.  He never looked like scoring and even making the keeper make a save.  He passed it into his hands.

    He needs to do better if we are to get the most from his hard work.  Those chances become more important the higher we (hopefully) go

    And for me this is the issue. Both TC & Small have had chances to score over the last couple of games & both have had weak efforts saved. They are 2 of our forward players & as such are likely to be in similar positions before the end of the season. For us the secure a play off place they must do better. Currently its really only Godden & Berry that can seem to bury chances. That is not good enough. In addition both Aneke & Leaburn came on but neither looked like they had it in them either. 2/3rds of the season gone & goals are still not being "spread around" the team. Leaburn had a mauve patch once he came back from injury (cant really call it a purple one) but a few were in the cup so his League tally is still pretty poor. Aneke is not the player he once was & is now just seen as a battering ram. Kanu is not given much if a chance & the less said about Ahadme the better.

    I know I'm seen as a negative Nancy & please believe me, I wish I wasn't. But as things stand I still feel our Achilles heel (great song btw) is our lack of goals. Just really hope it doesn't cost us in the end.
  • In Grenada tonight and toasting a good win !
    Saw a local fisherman wearing an old Charlton today and couldn’t believe it - good omen !
    I wonder who gave it to him ?
  • Thought we played really well. Credit to Jones the manager thought he was spot on tactically got the subs right again and made Peterborough look ordinary.
    Ref got off to a poor start with Jones the centre half booking, and it went downhill from there.

    Three months ago we would have folded and lost 1-2, but Coventry, Edwards look like they have developed an understanding and now seem to be enjoying their games.
    Still think that we lack communication at the back, but all said and done with are in the mix at the top.

    But the officials tonight were woeful , we really need the EFL to be honest and explain why we week after week get refs and assistant ref that struggle to even get basic decisions right.

    A deserved win against a fairly one dimensional side - not hard to see why they are down near the bottom - but we made hard work of it.  After they started brightly - much as Bristol Rovers did a fortnight ago - they offered little but cannot fault their dedicated timewasting.  I think we got lucky with the peanlty as the defender's arms were by his side - who cares! - and got caught out by pretty much their only threatening attack of the game.

    Sadly another referee who seemed to think we had come to watch him. Allowed their keeper to waste so much time at 1-1 but that came back to bite them.  Not sure if many saw but at 90+4 when Maynard-Brewer was taking his time over a goal kick two Peterborough players were complaining to the ref .. he shrugged, pointed at the Peterborough keeper and shrugged again, almost making the point he started it!

  • Got the win which all that matters, first half we took a while to get going but then had 2 or 3 good chances which we needed to put away.

    After about 6 years of crap it's just nice to walk away from the Valley with that winning feeling and the side are playing well
    That's the key thing, winning AND playing well. First time for 5 years I reckon. Joyful.

    So much better to watch the team create chances throughout a game, rather than that hoofball shit. So nice to see widemen being used to create chances and so nice to look solid defensivley. Fair play to Jones what a signing Ramsey is, best player at the club proper class act. The midfield is finally working because we finally have widemen (We still should have signed more wingers though!!).  We were much better then them tonight and deserved the points. Into 5th time to hunt down Stockport and Wrexham before chasing down Wycombe. COYR
    I think the bar must be really low for how fit the referee must be. He stopped several quick free kicks for both sides, presumably because he needed a breather

    It should never have been a red in my opinion but we’ll take it .

    In previous years the Aneke sub has genuinely been a "cheat code". But this season we turn into such a poor side every time he comes on the pitch. Even with a man advantage we resorted to hoofball with Aneke on the pitch...

    That aside, another great performance for the majority of the game, and a valuable 3 points.
    With Miles and Chuks on the pitch it seemed inevitable. And to be fair it's not an awful option, with tired defenders struggling against those two.
    I thought Chuks had a fairly average twenty minutes a couple of games ago, but he posted on Instagram clips of all of his contributions during those minutes, and they were better than I remembered. All this busted flush talk might be slightly premature. What he hasn't had recently is the bit of luck you need to nick a goal or two.
    Godden would have got on the end of one or two of Chuks' flick ons tonight, as he was winning a lot in the air.

    Indeed Kanu might have been a better player to pair with Chuks, as we needed someone with fresh legs to run on to the flick ons.
  • When I walked out of the Valley on the 3rd December after losing to Crawley, I genuinely thought the season was over, and it would be 6 more months of league one mid table mediocrity.

    What a turnaround!

    And how many on here were saying that Jones had to go?!
