I'm not sure some of the comments about "making heavy weather of it" and "being poor in the final third" are exactly fair...
I bet most journos would make Jed Steer (late of this parish) man of the match. At least twice, Matty Godden got his near post flicks in (like 3 of his last goals have been) and Steer saved them. Then he saved a ball that was absolutely hammered at the goal from all of 6 yards out, which got 2 hands to, and pushed over the bar.
And a few cracking stops in the 2nd half. Could do nothing about the penalty, though.
But we were definitely the better side, and deserved the 3 points.
It's fair comment that we made heavy weather of it in the second half, against 10 men, especially after we made the subs. Instead of Godden nipping around the box, and Small having his personal duel with Edun down the right wing, it got a bit too direct really. We play better football when Godden is playing, as there's less temptation to just launch it.
we did make heavy weather of the game, but to be fair to the side I reckon that , Jones, Lindgren and Mothersile are 3 of the quickest forwards we faced this season, even Ramsey was struggling to stay with any of them, L. Jones, M. Gilesphey had Edwards had to resort to a bit of the older professionals tricks to cope with them. I reckon Lindgren going off may have been the turning point in the game.
But when teams come to park the bus, we look clueless in being able to break them down. We're all 100mph huff & puff, hasty long ball, little guile or composure.
To be fair tonight we had 3 or 4 real goal scoring chances that ended up being weak shots right at the keeper. If we were little more clinical we could have won this 3 or 4-1. Point being we are able to create chances against these 'park-the-bus' style teams.
I've been in hospital very poorly since last week, all I could do was listen to the game on CATV, and I'm delighted I did. I forgot about my pain for a few hours and started planning, in my head, a trip to Wembley. We're on a roll, NJ has remarkably turned our season around, added 2 players of quality and built a solid foundation. I feel so much better tonight, thanks to CAFC. COYR's
When I walked out of the Valley on the 3rd December after losing to Crawley, I genuinely thought the season was over, and it would be 6 more months of league one mid table mediocrity.
What a turnaround!

And how many on here were saying that Jones had to go?!
I was one and will quite happily eat humble pie for the rest of the season. The turnaround has been incredible and not just the results, we are decent to watch too.

It's been a hell of a run since the Northampton game, one that I certainly did not see coming. It's been the kind of form that, over a season, would see you romp to the League One title, probably with over 100 points.
The frustrating thing about it is that it's required such a strong run just to pull ourselves properly back into contention for only a play-off spot. Just slightly better from through October and November and wed be on the periphery of the automatic promotion race. The important thing about it is that, because we have had such a run, we now just need to show "normal" play-off form for the final third of the season and we should get into them. It makes the rest of the season more sustainable, and we can probably now afford to drop a few points in some of the tough fixtures we have ahead against the rest of the top 8. Without this run, we'd probably be needing to go to places like Birmingham and win.
We are, however, starting to look like a properly good side in the same kind of vein of SCP's and Bowyer's promotion winning sides. We're maybe still just making slightly hard work of putting games to bed but we are starting to dominate teams and, crucially, finding a way to win. I certainly wouldn't bet against us getting something at Blues on Saturday, but the great thing is the pressure to do so is far less now.
It’s all been said already but what I really like is that as a side we don’t give up. We keep going and we find a way. That’s a good trait to have. And we seem fitter than most teams, not been able to say that for a while. I’ve been a big critic of Gillesphey but last couple of games he’s looked really solid so fair play to him. I thought Coventry was immense again today. We are a better side with Godden in it too.
Downside - don’t really have a game changer on the bench. When we need a goal Chuks isn’t contributing anymore. He’s ok if we are ahead and want to lump it up to someone who has nuisance value but other than that he offers very little these days. Such a shame.
Very pleased for Gillesphey. Not just that he got the winner, but the way his team mates pushed him forward in front to the Covered End after the game. Looked like there's some real camaraderie there.
I liked the look of Gilbert, looks like a proper ball player, he had one brilliant little flick on, also that corner for the goal was the best one I've seen us take in ages (probably all season).
The Ramsey / Small combination looks like an absolute winner. Both defensively and going forward they look head and shoulders better than anyone they are up against. If I've one slight criticism, it's that I think there's a tendency to try and beat the man just for fun (and to be fair, they've both been successful at this and it certainly makes the game exciting), but sometimes a simple pass out can be more effective/less risky.
Thought the ref was good tonight, not quite sure where all the criticism is coming from. In particular he wasn't interested in Peterborough's falling-down tactics.
Very pleased to get a win over Peterborough, a bit like Stevenage, we've had an uncomfortable run against them so it's great to be back on top.
Finally, best wishes to @Redmidland, hope you get better soon. You'll need to, as if Charlton continue like this, there may well be a trip to Wembley coming up.
9 games before the end of March, where we play Stockport and Orient away & Huddersfield at home. Lots of the top 6 are also playing each other so lots of 6-pointers. Let's see where we are once the clocks have gone forward. Hopefully we are still in the mix & the fun can really start.
Well, I'd have loved to have been there, but unfortunately my car decided to have a meltdown.
Arrived in Greenwich at about 5pm after leaving my job and feeling quite positive, meeting a friend and getting ready to watch the mighty reds, only to find my coolant leaking. After an 8 hour wait, I'm finally on my way home.
Lucky we won or I'd be sticking my head straight in the oven when I get in. (That's a joke, honest)
In Grenada tonight and toasting a good win ! Saw a local fisherman wearing an old Charlton today and couldn’t believe it - good omen ! I wonder who gave it to him ?
All ifs and buts, but if we’d hung on to winning positions away at Barnsley and Blackpool, and found a winner in a game we dominated at home vs Stockport, we’d be 3rd tonight.

I'm also guilty as charged.
And me. Some of our hoofball early in the season was some of the most depressing football I have seen us play in 40 years. It was shit and it wasn’t delivering results.
Happy to be proved wrong and we now look good, but if there was anyone at Bristol Rovers away that thought Jones was right for us, they are either amazingly optimistic, have the ability to see into the future, or are liars.
Confidence beginning to ooze through the side. Never give up. Still a lack of quality in the final third. TC harasses the hell out of people but 1 goal and 1 assist in 26 league games isn't good enough return Gillesphey great header but he was all over the place first half hour. Gilbert looks decent on the ball. Great corner for the goal. Connor and the Captain are beginning to show their worth. Lloyd Jones was excellent. Godden looked sharp.
Dare I say it. The play offs look very reachable.
I would still like Dizzie replaced. Hoping the new signing adds a little bit more quality defensively.
TC has 2 goals and 6 assists in the league according to the last statbank thread. Another assist tonight if his shot to win the penalty is counted too.
LEAGUE GAMES sir
Sadly his stats are as follows (my bad he has 2 goals and 1 assist in 29 league games). My comments still stand. He needs to deliver more.
Ps his "shot" for the penalty was going wide. I sit right behind the goal. But he did shoot. We did get a penalty. But it isn't an assist. Like him hitting the bar Saturday.
I talk more about clean through first half. He never looked like scoring and even making the keeper make a save. He passed it into his hands.
He needs to do better if we are to get the most from his hard work. Those chances become more important the higher we (hopefully) go
And for me this is the issue. Both TC & Small have had chances to score over the last couple of games & both have had weak efforts saved. They are 2 of our forward players & as such are likely to be in similar positions before the end of the season. For us the secure a play off place they must do better. Currently its really only Godden & Berry that can seem to bury chances. That is not good enough. In addition both Aneke & Leaburn came on but neither looked like they had it in them either. 2/3rds of the season gone & goals are still not being "spread around" the team. Leaburn had a mauve patch once he came back from injury (cant really call it a purple one) but a few were in the cup so his League tally is still pretty poor. Aneke is not the player he once was & is now just seen as a battering ram. Kanu is not given much if a chance & the less said about Ahadme the better.
I know I'm seen as a negative Nancy & please believe me, I wish I wasn't. But as things stand I still feel our Achilles heel (great song btw) is our lack of goals. Just really hope it doesn't cost us in the end.
Since our loss against Crawley only Orient and Bolton have scored more goals than us.
Our goal difference has improved more so than any other team apart from Orient and Birmingham. And the big reason there GD has improved more than us……. They’ve conceded 5 and 7 goals to our 13.
So, don’t really see the amount of goals we are scoring being our Achilles heel.

I wasn't. I hate the churn of managers we've had, and I've been desperate to see us get some stability. But I was very quiet on that run of form that lead to the Crawley match, as I didn't have a single argument to defend they guy. But here we are! Happy days.

Great win after a slow start and a bit of a nervy middling point after their penalty equaliser but another 3 points in the bag!
Posh started well, came at us quick and looked like it might be a long night but saying that they never really threatened, once we got going we showed what we can do and some great chances kept out by a pretty decent keeper in Steer. Was pretty much one way traffic from our (rightly) awarded pen onwards, yes was a bit nervy once they grabbed a goal back but we pressed on looking for the winner and made the man advantage count with the game taking part in their half.
Great corner from Gilbert and what a header from the much maligned Gillesphey, on Gilbert, thought he looked very tidy when he came on and always looking to play the ball in behind, early days yet but good option off the bench for Berry.
Shout out to Tayo Edun who was their best player by far imo, good luck to him.
For all the plaudits Coventry is finally getting, Doc has been superb last two games, he was everywhere last night, these two have clicked and the midfield finally has some working balance.
Great feeling watching the team, keep going and seems to be some real proper spirit in the camp.
A fantastic evening that I will remember for a long time. Over the last few months since taking up my advisory role with the board I have stayed (and will continue) to be a bit quieter on this forum. But my experience as match sponsor with my business, and for my son who is currently on a weeks work experience at the club and joined me, has been absolutely first class.
My son is generally a bit anxious socially and has been made to feel so welcome in the boardroom and offices. Everyone has been wonderfully welcoming for him and he has loved it this week. A huge personal thank you to the club on that one.
Went for Macca as Man of the Match - sometimes you have to go simple. He scored the winner and got us out of it, and also was as solid as anyone at the back.

Entertaining read, although 90% of it is the posh fans arguing amongst themselves about the red card.

Did I miss this.
Congrats.
