I was remined by a Rovers fan before the match, that they had 5 consecutive wins over us, but i felt confident, that we would win, for me, that was the best Home performance, in the league, at the Valley this season for me ( i missed Reading, so can't comment on that).
Can we have more of these performances please Charlton, take the handbrake off, and crush teams, it helps all our stress levels, thank you!

I’m not sure I’d agree it was the best home performance so far this season, mainly because Bristol Rovers were useless it didn’t feel like we had to get out of first gear.
Last night 11 individuals without much coordination or team work but with much effort and determination overcame a team with weaker attack and defence but were better organised and had better passing skills and midfield passing.
1st goal- scored on pinball method.Totally fortuitous. (I agree you've got to shoot to score)
2nd goal- skilful strike.
Whilst it's great to win, the shortcomings of our team will be found out. There's only so many bare knuckle fights you can win.
Or we could be the worst " team" in EFL history to be promoted.
11 individuals yet to be a team.
Couldn't disagree more. We created good chance after good chance and it was a logical conclusion we would get a couple at least. Possession is a meaningless stat. It is what you do with the possession that matters. We are pretty good at winning when we take the lead and this shows a team that has a defensive strength. Having that will mean we fall back on it like we did a bit in the second half as there is a good chance we win doing that. The season stats show that.
totally agree about possession being meaningless stat.
But look at the " effortless "( = well coordinated/planned/understanding of colleagues) way they played out from defence into midfield and to attack (where they were let down) -overrall smooth/accurate/well weighted passes between team mates
whereas
In CAFC individuals battled hard to get the ball-either lost it or managed 2-3 passes going nowhere- before it was hoofed upfield.
Yes individuals like Small are talented and managed to battle their way through. Thats not team work. That individual skill and determination. And where were the options for him when he got there ? well they didn't come into the equation (also Aneke who battled but gave up 2-3 passing options in one move as he was desperate to score). Thats individuals not team work.
NJ is certainly a intense character. Can you imagine his response to his wife's if he doesn't like her dinner one evening
"That wasn't you out there today in that kitchen"
"You didn't do the basics, gravy was lumpy"
"I can't fault your commitment but its another poor performance "
"Luv, I've brought in Ethel Scroggins from the Luton Town canteen. Ethel is someone that has cooked for me before and knows what it takes every day to be at it to create this winning culture and winning environment in the kitchen."

Only Lyle Taylor can turn this team into a quality side presumably

There's always at least one miserable bastard
Realistic bastard
Bristol Rovers manager Calderon said after the game: “In the last third, when we have to create something, we are not doing it. Still, I would say in the middle of the park, I think we have been better than them. It’s true that in the boxes, where you lose or win the game, we were worse than them.” IMO - winning is better than the alternatives but don't kid yourselves about the quality of Teamwork. We have individuals who are achieving/excelling but that will only get you so far.

I think we are working as a team to create chances for each individual to do what they do best. For Small that’s running through 2 players and creating space for someone else, for Doc that’s battling in the midfield to protect Small and get him running, for TC it’s dribbling at a defender and creating a bit of chaos often leaving someone unmarked. These things can look like individual play but actually are a great example of the team working collectively

I thought the referee was also excellent yesterday. Allowed the game to flow.
One of the best I've ever seen in charge of a Charlton game, he'll probably be sacked by the EFL for competence!!
He's only reffed 16 EFL games but already 5 of those have been in the Championship. Had to send off a Luton player and all so unafraid to make big calls, but notably that is the only red he's given (and only given 2 penalties) which speaks to a certain strength of mind and control of a game. Also, played professional football, which possibly explains his leniency in borderline yellow/non-yellow cases (and his understanding of when to let the game flow)
Chuffed that Ramsey started. He is sublime. Some great long balls and completely snuffed out any danger from their left winger. Godden was also sharp and won several balls in the air. L. Jones was in dominant mood, so all good, with Edwards having a storming game and even scoring with his right foot! No whinges from me...but I hope we bring in an attacking midfielder this week to help build our momentum.

I agree. Last night Berry was more effective first half than he has been. He was in the game more which meant the Rovers defence could not just focus on stopping Small and TC. We need somebody in Berry's position who can do what he did last night for 90 minutes.
Done some more digging on the ref. Learnt that most fans seem to like him except for his reluctance to give penalties. Then dug further and learnt he's a former centre-back. That'll be why then
Small has been outstanding although he still needs to work on his decision making and final ball, this has improved from where it was. My concern now is that if we don't go up can we hold on to him.
As much as we and the club say it would be best for his development to stay here for a season or two, it's a short career and opportunities arise. If a championship club come in they have the money to draw him away.
Hopefully he will sign that contract, but I think it will go to the wire!
We need Small to sign that contract because we know if he progresses and starts scoring most of those chances, now he is getting into advanced position we need recompense at the end of this season.
The football reality is if we give Thierry an improved contract with a clause then it's win, win as we either get X amount of millions* this summer or next January's window or we retain an improving passionate player that the fans have taken too.
We really don't want a Joe Aribo situation again when he walked away despite the success at Wembley.
* A 20 year old who can play right or left wing back with pace and skill even if it's still raw must be worth a few million.

Was a bit surprised he wasn't taken off around the 75 minute mark given the time he'd been out. Then when he got the bang on the head I thought he's certain to come off. Bit of a risk but hopefully fit enough to start again Saturday.

For me, the best refs used to play the game to a decent level. It doesn't have to be professional but you need to know what goes on on a football pitch.
Who was it that said Nathan Jones teams tend to start a season slow and then come on strong after Christmas?
Give them a gold star. They called it.
Hopefully this doesn’t fizzle out. But the momentum we have built should frighten teams. Genuinely believe we could go to St. Andrews and pull out a one nil win at the moment.
Not to blow my own horn but I said something similar to that. Luton were 17th at Christmas the year he took them up from league one I believe.
can I have my gold star?
This isn't true. NJ left in the January of their League One promotion year when they were in 2nd position. Mick Harford finished the job and got them promoted to the championship. He also left in the November of their championship promotion season and then Rob Edwards got them into the playoffs and up to the Prem.
I'm not taking away any of the work NJ done at Luton as he was heavily involved taking them from League 2 to the Premier League but he actually hasn't won any promotions apart from the League Two one. Something that goes under the radar a bit
This season must be the best one he's had since those Luton days, his Southampton and Stoke spells were pretty poor.
Easily the best since Luton I would think. Southampton couldn't wait to get shot of him and his record at Stoke was abysmal....including getting beaten 3-1 by us at The Valley.
Was that the Gallagher worldie and I think Chuks' first goal?
I also thought the ref last night was the best I’ve seen for quite some time. Thought he was fair for both sides ( although some Rovers fans seem to disagree with that ! ) On a different note, why is it that players now in general seem to need to scream when ‘fouled’ ? I find it quite pathetic to be honest. A Rovers player screamed as if he’d been shot ! I notice it’s also picked up on the microphones on TV in Premiership games so it seems to be a general thing throughout the leagues. If they had done that in the 70’s when every team had a ‘hard man’ they would have been laughed off the field. I saw a clip the other day of the great George Best just shrugging off so called tackles & running through to score. The goal he scored would never have been scored now as at the first touch he would have screamed, rolled over 10 times while banging his fists on the floor, not forgetting to clutch the area allegedly mutilated. Do I miss the old blood & thunder tackles ? You bet I do ! Nothing like a full blooded tackle to raise the crowd & get everyone going ! Sorry- old fashioned rant over. I apologise if anyone was offended by my insensitive ramblings & if you’ve been affected I’ll do my best not to mention my other modern day irritations- Interpretation of Handball, offside, ball outside of the corner area when taking corners & breathing on goalkeepers before they get a foul given for them. And yes, believe it or not I am in a good mood after last night’s result ! Cue insults from younger fans calling me an old dinosaur 😁

Our attacking play isn’t often as fluid and exciting as we’d like, but 11 individuals wouldn’t keep the number of clean sheets we have so far this season.
