So other than a penalty we’ve barely created anything across 2 games.
Really need to see more going forward on Saturday. I hope Berry starts, he’s the only one with a bit of invention/creativity about him. I’m worried about how we are going to break down any team that sits in against us and doesn’t hand us chances by giving the ball away at the back
Three “big chances” created and none allowed so far in two games.
Tonight wasn’t great. It can be better and it will be better.
Defence was decent but we had zero composure up front and created very little. I think the worry for most fans coming into the season was always going to be 'who is going to create anything' and i haven't seen much so far so that suggests it's not going to be a recurring problem.

Having a big chance and creating a big chance are two different things though. Surely you can understand that?
I really hope giving Campbell the penalty was to try and build confidence. He is not someone we should be trusting to step up.
Don't overly mind the result if it has helped Jones.
He scored four in Pre-Season, more than anyone...
Don't blame him for opting to take the penalty that he'd just won, as imagine he was already full of confidence. Just hope that scuffed effort doesnt dent it in any way.
Could had been three up started well but then fell away alarmingly not much creativity apart from Coventry thought we were poor tonight but still hopeful of a good season. Was hoping Chuks would provide the needed spark but not to be.
I really wish I could be more like @Callumcafc i really do mate.
I’ve seen us three times in recent weeks (a friendly, a. League game, a cup game) and I’ve seen absolutely nothing to give me any confidence we might get a bit of enjoyment and excitement from this season (and we are already out of one of the two cups in the opening breath of the season).
We seem a bit more workmanlike in the press and a bit more defensively organised, but I’ve seen too many other positives from nearly 300 mins of football tbh. We seem to have a big squad with a lot of averageness. No idea where a decent goals return will come from if Leaburn doesn’t come back soon and come back good.
Really hope I’m being harsh and things kick in soon as I’m not finding it a great watch at the moment

I sadly agree lots We are a decent side With NO attacking threat Crazy given Godden was such an adequate replacement for Alfie May...... lol

That’s proper semantics though. Does it matter where the chances come from? Especially when it’s a conscious decision from the manager.
I am very confident in saying we won’t be signing a creative midfield player. Jones rarely ever likes playing with one. We are going to have to get on with it.
If people don’t want to just get on with it then I suppose we can force Jones out and get a manager with a different philosophy.
No point on getting over excited, but we were outplayed all over the park, defence looked ok but midfield creativity was non existant, and nothing at all up front, just do not see were the goals and opportunities are going to come from.

And I hate LOL !!! ffs
We don't know about Godden yet because he hasn't been fit to play a competitive game. Hold fire maybe?
At least we treated it sensibly with a proper team.
The problem is the team isn’t that great - yet.
No positives of note to take from the game in my opinion.
I’d say it does mean we need a better performance this Saturday if any momentum is going to be created as we can’t dismiss it as a non event / second string outing.

Well he's scored as many as May did at this stage last season, so can see why the pressure is mounting
Was sat behind the goal and it was so obvious which way TC was going for the pen, shame as he started really well. It was a better defensive display than we’d have seen last season against a top side. We need to do more going forward though, would like to see Berry Docherty and Coventry play together against Orient. The problem with the strikers is until Godden and Leaburn are fit we don’t have anyone to play alongside Ahadme, wouldn’t be surprised to see Kanu start with Ahadme on Saturday

No, it's not semantics. What I'm saying is that we seem to be able to get chances when we can force the other team into a mistake. Great, that's a chance, we're all agreed.
But when they sit back and we have the ball we don't look like doing anything.
But as you say, it is what it is. But if that's the way we choose to play then you will always be getting people pointing out that we don't create a lot when we've got the ball.

NJ appears to have done wonders with the defence already. When you look at last season’s league table, the teams that conceded a goal per game or less, they finished 1st, 2nd, 7th and 9th.
A back line is:
1. harder to fix during the middle of the season compared to a front line 2. more closely correlated to a successful season than a front line
There is still 45 league games for the attacking to click. And I’m confident that some at some point it will happen.
This is far far far better than coming out of the Valley conceding three at home to Port Vale like this time last year.

I know he did well in Pre Season, but I just don't think he's someone we can rely on to consistently deliver in big moments.
It might sound harsh, but I don't think we get out of League One with TC as our main finisher.
We kept in it despite Birmingham's possession and the millions they've spent but shame to waste a penalty with such a poor effort.
Campbell and Kanu can't be our front 2 in the league, but I still see both having a part to play in the squad this season.
It's going to be interesting to see how we do against teams we're expected to beat. Rather than play out from the back and lack creativity and quality to break down teams sitting back as we've seen under managers like Garner and Appleton, it's clearly a tactic of Jones for us to be more direct, with longer balls into the channels and big switches of play. Add to that working on our pressing and being more of a threat from set pieces, we should cause the more ordinary teams problems. That might show a different side to us compared to these first two games against sides comfortable in possession who dealt with a lot of what we could throw at them.
The concerns haven't changed however, while that should get us into the top half, we need that real quality from 2/3 players if we want to be comfortably in the playoffs or better. Let's hope we start seeing movement out to allow Jones to bring in those last few signings. Getting a few starters in could make a huge difference vs signing squad players.

Dont you mean the three we conceded away @ Newport?

Berry should start instead of Anderson
Edwards should start ahead of Small

- The new players look Charltonised.
