I would loan out Ness, asiimwe and z Mitchell. Too many defenders on the books, Watson and edun will be difficult to move on so probably keep as back up.
Get rid of Scott Fraser  and aneke but again difficult. Other than that I am happy with the squad, we need one more player like tyreece Campbell but that's it.
So we play 3 at the back but you'd only keep 4 of them in A.Mitchell, Gillesphey, Edmonds-Green and Jones? So one gets injured, another gets sent off, who you playing at the back in the next game?
Z Mitchell should stay around , no doubt .

The 7 we have brought in may be a bit of an upgrade but it doesn't feel like a top 6 squad to me and nowhere near strong enough for top 2. If the club are serious about promotion, I still think we need 2-3 starters down the spine of the team as opposed to squad fillers. But what do I know?

I kind of agree but would also say that the thing Nathan Jones is good at is making squads outperform the expectation. It's a risky thing to bank on though

As the games have got harder the results have got worse?

I think it looks a top 6 squad, when you consider the teams who have made the top 6 in recent years. But lacking that bit of quality to really compete for the top 2 at the moment.

But then it's only July, so time to get the icing on the cake, which could be a loan player, the 2024 version of a Rak-Sakyi.

agree with this and think we'll still see 1 or 2 guaranteed starters come in the door

For me we are a fringe top 6 team,  I would feel a lot more optimistic if he were get another solid CB and a true attacking mid

Our defence was terrible all the way through to the end of last season.

Since then we have added a Cambridge keeper who was number 2 for most of the season; a LB from the Scottish Championship who looks like back up to Small and Alex Mitchell.

It is too early in Pre season for any real concerns, but we have continued letting in goals.

We 100% need a better keeper and at least one more high quality CB, I would personally like 2 more with Ness and Gillesphy moved on if space is needed.

I liked the look of Sean Hutchinson but he hasn't got the best injury record and having been released by Millwall he will already be behind in pre season so I wouldn't bother now.

We also need a high quality midfielder with goals and assists in them imo.

Mmmm..., but I would say results have got harder to match rather than wholesale "worse"......🙄

Ipswich just signed a new keeper so a possibility of Walton moving?

Given the teams that did not get promoted last season and those coming down from Championship and up from L2, I think we have 4 to 10 squad. We can play a lot better this season than last but the challengers are greater

Barnsley and Posh at the moment are clearly weaker than last season. Lincoln in 7th are MUCH weaker than last season. Stevenage in 9th won't be the same without Evans.

I still think we’ll sign Sonny Bradley but it will be late on in the window. Would love a proven attacking midfielder but I think that’ll be hard to do. Still expecting a GK.

They still needed to sign another keeper to replace Walton before they would let him go, but we all know this is not a goer...don't we...🙄

Has there been a genuine link with Walton at any point? I'm fairly certain he'd get a Championship move if he was made available, even that feels unlikely.

I assume it would be a loan as he signed a one year contract recently, with a call back

Not quite, Ipswich triggered a one-year option I think most likely so they could sell him not lose him for free

    I have never seen one

I think people have looked at senior keepers that Nathan has worked with previously and tried to join the dots.

I think that might be strange to just sign for a year, he would lose his bargaining power, signing on fees and maybe higher salary as a free transfer

He didn't sign it, Ipswich activated a clause. Just like we did with Thierry Small

I feel we require a GK, CB and CAM, all of whom need to be very decent quality, as a minimum. Failing to land these I fear will see us as an also ran team, albeit a higher also ran team than this years sorry bunch.
  • Actually we have a few players who can switch positions across the backline, the new Edwards guy. I was just talking about players who are not really good enough.
What is your opinion covered end lad so I can be glad that you are in charge.

My opinion is that, yes there are several players who need to be moved on - chuks not being one of them the reasons for which have been discussed at length on here.

We don’t need another tyreece type player as we aren’t looking to play with wingers, we need a first team GK, another starting CB and another quality midfield addition.

Get those three right and we should be good enough to challenge. If I was being greedy I would want a pacey number 10 as a different option, potentially a loan like Taylor from Luton.

Player called King playing on trial for U21s

    Source @snakedavis

Possibly Richard King, 22 year old Jamacian international defender.

Jones said we want a better squad coming out of the window than we went to it, despite the sale of May I think it’s fair to say we have done that so far. Still not sure of this current squad is promotion material but I really think a Sonny Bradley to command the defence and an experienced goalkeeper to aid in that will help.

Whilst I do agree to a point, I would counter by saying this is very much Jones squad now.  They are his players & if he can get the best out of them, I think we could be right up there
