Feels like last summer all again when we were being told be patient, keep the faith but this time worse because we are actively losing our best players, I will still be there supporting my club, hoping for the best but I don't believe the narrative that May is toxic and forced his way out.
Jones banged the drum for six weeks with his squad, which is clearly now not happening for whatever reason.
I have cut back on my Charlton social media reading heavily lately but I am sure every new signing is once again a brilliant piece of business, just like Tayo Edun or Harry Isted or Terry Taylor or Tennai Watson etc were last summer.
I don't really care why he is being sold, its the only 100% proven quality player in our squad seemingly passed to what is meant to be a rival this season.
Hopefully we get Luton Town Nathan Jones but I would argue Luton are the best run club, other then possibly Brighton in the entire pyramid so how much effect did that have on the success, as they got in the PL without him and I cannot so easily ignore that he completely failed at Stoke & Southampton.
So if it is due to a clash of personalities between Jones & May, I know which one in my mind is more guaranteed to bring success in his role.
Also Birmingham will think they are guaranteeing goals but we thought the same about ladapo when he walked through the door and look what happened with him
Part of the current criticism of the transfers so far is down to NJ. It is he who stated that he wanted the majority of transfers in my the end of June which hasn't happened. This was a foolish statement by NJ as any experienced manager knows that the transfer window doesn't work like that and he shouldn't have raised fans expectations.
In NJ I do not trust - yet
Agree.
It was a dumb thing say, given fans unrealistic expectations.
pretty smart thing to do imo, keeps everyone on their toes.
Would you say that’s what’s happening on here?
Think most are waiting for admission to the psych ward;)
I was thinking more on the lines of the training ground tbh. I suspect it’ll be hard enough getting everybody on here on their toes let alone keeping them on their toes…
May is gone, the important thing is what happens now. We need someone through the door to lift the squad and the fans, that isn't Godden.
We've swapped Alfie May for Godden
I don't understand
Godden doesn't fit the profile of striker Jones wants (allegedly) @DubaiCAFC ? Care to explain?
If it isn't about money why Godden when May has 20+ goals 3 seasons running?!
Issue is, agent of May was making other clubs aware that May wasn't happy at Charlton for whatever reason.. May doesn't like Jones style, and wanted to leave.. Jones couldn't and wouldn't guarantee he would be week in week out start. Charlton are getting a good deal, May is getting an even better deal, just feels like it is a good deal for all.
Godden in my opinion is a good replacement for May, similar type of player and done the goods at a higher-level and is happy to fight for his place.
As Ben said in his baking cake statement, let's see where we are at the end of the window.. You have to remember, every single club is battling for players, some will come and some won't that is football for you.. But for me, the profile of players we have signed so far is what we need to be doing, they are a good age, points to prove.
From what I was told from a trustworthy source, May was fine to stay and see out his contract at a minimum, and it was Jones decision for him to leave.
It would then be the agents job to ask around at who would like to sign his newly available player. You make it sound like the agent made first move, that is not what I was told.
So see out his contract and we get nothing next season or cash In for 1m and reinvest in the squad. No brainer
Get promoted this season with a new defence or sell the leagues best striker to a rival and don’t get promoted, no brainer!
This doesn’t make sense ?
I know, selling the leagues best striker to a rival doesn’t make sense, I knew you’d come round eventually.
No your post didn’t make sense but then you very rarely do.
Ouch, bit personal! I simply have a different view to you. All this spin that Alfie is moving to Yorkshire for his wife (now moving to Brum), we can’t turn down the silly money (it’s now not silly money) and he’s the wrong type of player (we’re replacing him with a very similar, but older player) doesn’t wash with a lot of fans. Despite the spin from the ODL (Owners Defence League), from the outside, the clubs looks as if it’s lacking the ambition to secure promotion.
Also Birmingham will think they are guaranteeing goals but we thought the same about ladapo when he walked through the door and look what happened with him
Behave! Alfie has done it 3 years in a row for sides struggling in League 1, not the runaway league1 winners!
In terms of an experienced keeper...how about Begovic or Bialkowski? Both free (I believe) and could do a job. Though I admit Begovic could be an issue with wages!
One thing I will say, at least we have a left back going into first game of presason this year, was it the last 2 years where we didn't have a single one?

I did wonder about Bialkowski. Does he live locally?. I suspect Begovic will be aiming higher.

Shall we remind ourselves about Cole Stockton? Sometimes being the main man in a struggling team is beneficial for a player. May strikes me as someone who wants to be the big fish
Bit on Davies.. So he had agreed a deal to sign for us, but then for the last 10 days, he was meant to come down to complete medical and sign the contract, but every day another excuse, then late last week, he said other opportunities haver come to light, and want to explore, then asked for more money.. He well and truly f****d us about.. We move on.. It is now silly season, will be a lot of agreements but don't progress.. But that is the football industry for you..

For god sake ..
please explain your heavenly comment on my reasonable statement
Wouldn't it be nice to talk about something else apart from Alfie...he's gone now. I mean, will we actually get our second keeper we were promised, because it has turned out our first choice target has decided to stay at Sheffield...or will it turn out to be AMB or Harry...again...🙄 I really look forward to something positive from the club, rather than this continual wall of silence...
if this squad wins promotion given we have signed 4 players where 2 are squad players, then jones is a fucking tactical genius and the best manager ever. As this group of players were lacking in multiple areas last season and personally I don't see how we've gone anywhere but backwards in terms of strength in depth by losing Dobo and May so far. I'd love to be proved wrong and for us to have a fantastic window, I just don't see it.

We now have 3 fit left footed options there. I think it's compulsory for us to be overstocked in one positions and barren elsewhere.
The severe copium behind some of these posts needs studying.
There has been nothing 'bold' about this transfer window so far at all, not the good kind of bold anyway.
The same people who are using Mays age as a justification to move him on, are you happy signing Godden who's older?
I reckon Godden will end our striker business, wouldn't surprise me at all, or it will be a gamble/league 1 donkey and the usual spin about getting 'Chuks being match fit will be a force' will be the discussion.
Funny how we are targeting the goalies who are out of our price range, and now it's back to the classic 'they were mugging us off'. Surely just go and buy one of the better goalies from the league? Thought we were shopping in a different market after all..
Load of old bollocks, as per. On paper we are a weaker side now than we were at the end of last season. That takes some doing. The bulk of the business done before pre-season, my arse.

A question, if May gets 20+ this season and we replace him with Godden who then gets let's say 16 or so, considering the 850k would people feel that decent business?
Ie not fully replacing Alfie's goals but still respectable numbers + a fee

League position, general play and so on completely irrelevant to this question I see

100% I expect a few more 'leaks' in this transfer window from the SMT about top league one/championship players we're bidding for which we 'sadly couldn't get over the line'
Heres a comment from a Coventry supporter a few minutes ago, if he does what NJ wants him to do then fine - theabbott
8 MIN AGO
I just hope we have somebody lined up to replace him as Godden was always reliable. His goal ratio was 1 in 3 which is great considering how many were apps from the bench this past season. Will be keeping an eye on how many goals he scores for Charlton.

Who were the front two at Luton when Jones took them up?
On this occasion we’ve acted quickly in replacing a proven goal scorer with a forward who also knows where the net is.
i would prefer a 31 year old may over a 33 year old godden
