In terms of an experienced keeper...how about Begovic or Bialkowski? Both free (I believe) and could do a job. Though I admit Begovic could be an issue with wages!
One thing I will say, at least we have a left back going into first game of presason this year, was it the last 2 years where we didn't have a single one?

I did wonder about Bialkowski. Does he live locally?. I suspect Begovic will be aiming higher.
Also Birmingham will think they are guaranteeing goals but we thought the same about ladapo when he walked through the door and look what happened with him
Behave! Alfie has done it 3 years in a row for sides struggling in League 1, not the runaway league1 winners!
Shall we remind ourselves about Cole Stockton? Sometimes being the main man in a struggling team is beneficial for a player. May strikes me as someone who wants to be the big fish
Bit on Davies.. So he had agreed a deal to sign for us, but then for the last 10 days, he was meant to come down to complete medical and sign the contract, but every day another excuse, then late last week, he said other opportunities haver come to light, and want to explore, then asked for more money.. He well and truly f****d us about.. We move on.. It is now silly season, will be a lot of agreements but don't progress.. But that is the football industry for you..
Part of the current criticism of the transfers so far is down to NJ. It is he who stated that he wanted the majority of transfers in my the end of June which hasn't happened. This was a foolish statement by NJ as any experienced manager knows that the transfer window doesn't work like that and he shouldn't have raised fans expectations.
In NJ I do not trust - yet
For god sake ..
please explain your heavenly comment on my reasonable statement
Wouldn't it be nice to talk about something else apart from Alfie...he's gone now. I mean, will we actually get our second keeper we were promised, because it has turned out our first choice target has decided to stay at Sheffield...or will it turn out to be AMB or Harry...again...🙄 I really look forward to something positive from the club, rather than this continual wall of silence...
if this squad wins promotion given we have signed 4 players where 2 are squad players, then jones is a fucking tactical genius and the best manager ever. As this group of players were lacking in multiple areas last season and personally I don't see how we've gone anywhere but backwards in terms of strength in depth by losing Dobo and May so far. I'd love to be proved wrong and for us to have a fantastic window, I just don't see it.

We now have 3 fit left footed options there. I think it's compulsory for us to be overstocked in one positions and barren elsewhere.
The severe copium behind some of these posts needs studying.
There has been nothing 'bold' about this transfer window so far at all, not the good kind of bold anyway.
The same people who are using Mays age as a justification to move him on, are you happy signing Godden who's older?
I reckon Godden will end our striker business, wouldn't surprise me at all, or it will be a gamble/league 1 donkey and the usual spin about getting 'Chuks being match fit will be a force' will be the discussion.
Funny how we are targeting the goalies who are out of our price range, and now it's back to the classic 'they were mugging us off'. Surely just go and buy one of the better goalies from the league? Thought we were shopping in a different market after all..
Load of old bollocks, as per. On paper we are a weaker side now than we were at the end of last season. That takes some doing. The bulk of the business done before pre-season, my arse.

A question, if May gets 20+ this season and we replace him with Godden who then gets let's say 16 or so, considering the 850k would people feel that decent business?
Ie not fully replacing Alfie's goals but still respectable numbers + a fee

League position, general play and so on completely irrelevant to this question I see

100% I expect a few more 'leaks' in this transfer window from the SMT about top league one/championship players we're bidding for which we 'sadly couldn't get over the line'
Heres a comment from a Coventry supporter a few minutes ago, if he does what NJ wants him to do then fine - theabbott

I just hope we have somebody lined up to replace him as Godden was always reliable. His goal ratio was 1 in 3 which is great considering how many were apps from the bench this past season. Will be keeping an eye on how many goals he scores for Charlton.

It is football... so I don't get your point!
That the line that has been served up on here is along the lines of 'we are shopping in a different market now' and already 'money' is the stumbling block. We even needed money so much so, that we have sold the biggest goal threat in the league to a promotion rival, that we can't get near in terms of resources.
I don't believe a word these owners say. This will be a constant thing this window. The harsh reality is, we had 4 good players last season, 3 have left/been sold, and the other is yet to sign a contract extension.
May has been sold to fund the incomings we have had, so far. It will not shock me at all if we break even this window, or thereabouts, which we cannot afford to do. We have all just witnessed one of the worst Charlton sides ever, the only ones who were stopping us from being the worst side in the league, are all gone bar a couple.
We need to spend a fair few million to turn this mess around, do I see us doing that? No. As we have already cashed in, or attempted to cash in (Dobsons case) on all our best players so far.
I just don't see how this is any different from the previous owners/windows we have had.
In the end the if May only gets a dozen goals for Birmingham and Godden gets double that for us, if Birmingham go up an we don't then we still lost out.
We know May is capable of getting 20+ goals for us, we know he is capable of getting it for an even worse team then us, we should be adding to our very small number of proven quality players, not selling them to those we are competing with.
From the vids, Godden get a fair few with the head, which I think suits the Jones style.
Who were the front two at Luton when Jones took them up?
Better sign up some decent players who can cross then. At the same time better sign some creative midfielders who can supply Godden on the floor as well.
Until we sign those players we arent going anywhere.

Except our crossing is dog shit??....
Is it though? Or is it at least in part that our system had a striker who for all his qualities absolutely was not renowned for being good in the air or winning a tussle with a robust CB.
The obvious counter is of course to find that aerial threat IN ADDITION to Alfie not instead of but Godden does at least seem have the edge in physical terms.
Crosses are a large part of the Jones style so I imagine either way they'd be something gets a lot of work done over preseason.

It is the same script every season and very predictable.
Then you'll get comments like 'if May was so good, why didn't a championship club buy him', 'if Dobson was so good, why didn't a championship club come in for him'.
The same argument could be used about the players we have signed/will sign. If Edwards was so good, why was it only us and Bristol Rovers in for him, if Mitchell is so good, why was it only us and Lincoln interested him, and not other championship sides.
Which to make clear, I don't actually mind those signings, but that's how easily it can be flipped. I just don't understand the blind faith, when every window is more or less identical. I will be gobsmacked if we make more than 2 substantial bids to sign players.

On this occasion we’ve acted quickly in replacing a proven goal scorer with a forward who also knows where the net is.
i would prefer a 31 year old may over a 33 year old godden
