I don't understand
Godden doesn't fit the profile of striker Jones wants (allegedly) @DubaiCAFC ? Care to explain?
If it isn't about money why Godden when May has 20+ goals 3 seasons running?!
Godden in my opinion is a good replacement for May, similar type of player and done the goods at a higher-level and is happy to fight for his place.
As Ben said in his baking cake statement, let's see where we are at the end of the window.. You have to remember, every single club is battling for players, some will come and some won't that is football for you.. But for me, the profile of players we have signed so far is what we need to be doing, they are a good age, points to prove. It would then be the agents job to ask around at who would like to sign his newly available player. You make it sound like the agent made first move, that is not what I was told.1 -

I suppose the fact that we have apparently actually secured a replacement (Godden) before rubber stamping/announcing May has actually left is good as far as it goes. His adequacy AS a replacement is still to be seen of course and they are big boots to fill but credit where its due that we've actually got someone in this time and not left it right to the wire.7
-
Would still hope for another striker with Godden. Hopefully we've got enough irons in the fire that if Ipswich want a big fee for Ahadme that we have alternatives to turn to.0
-
I think Godden is a few inches max taller than Alfie. As long as Godden stays fit, every chance he will knock in 15 at league one level. I think we will see more goals from elsewhere including Leaburn, Aneke and the still improving Kanu plus potentially contributions from another incoming striker. Combined we may score more goals, but not have a 20+ goal scorer on our books next season. As long as the former becomes the reality, we should be stronger.
Appreciate it feels counter intuitive, but the long and the short of it last season is that we were way too reliant on Alfie’s goals - thankfully he stayed pretty fit throughout the campaign. A promotion chasing side cannot rely upon one major goal outlet.7 -
Swisdom said:Not sure where this rumor about him being the same size as Alfie comes from. Wyscout has Godden as 6'1" and Transfermarkt has him the same. From what I can see he's much bigger than Alfred - who is not even 5'9.
I really hope his fitness and desire is still there, but seeing as those attributes are two must haves when NJ signs players he must be confident Godden will still be very capable at this level.7 -

So somewhere between 5"7 and 6"1 haha.
He doesnt look 6ft in the goal compilations.3 -
Part of the current criticism of the transfers so far is down to NJ. It is he who stated that he wanted the majority of transfers in my the end of June which hasn't happened. This was a foolish statement by NJ as any experienced manager knows that the transfer window doesn't work like that and he shouldn't have raised fans expectations.
In NJ I do not trust - yet7 -

As this group of players were lacking in multiple areas last season and personally I don't see how we've gone anywhere but backwards in terms of strength in depth by losing Dobo and May so far. I'd love to be proved wrong and for us to have a fantastic window, I just don't see it.
Sorry has the window closed this morning ??
First friendly on Saturday
Fly out for preseason tour next week.
Squad still 5 or 6 quality signings short.
Hope that explains our current position.15 -
Something tells me that Oxford might not have been in for Godden, but a certain CEO of ours has tapped into his media links to add some gloss to this.17

To be fair, nothing makes any sense anymore with this club, and we need some fan involvement from the club with an announcement on the OS regarding Alfie, Godden and where we are long term regarding signings, remembering our first pre season friendly is only four days away...🙄

31 years of age being offered double what he’s on here, no surprise at all he’s gone! Godden looks a good all round player who knows the league and will slot in and hit the ground running we hope, leaburn coming back from injury and we all know how good he is even if we only get to see it until January. Yes jones wanted to have most in before pre season but wouldn’t every manager? Let’s all stick together and try to keep the faith!2
-
Feels like last summer all again when we were being told be patient, keep the faith but this time worse because we are actively losing our best players, I will still be there supporting my club, hoping for the best but I don't believe the narrative that May is toxic and forced his way out.
Jones banged the drum for six weeks with his squad, which is clearly now not happening for whatever reason.
I have cut back on my Charlton social media reading heavily lately but I am sure every new signing is once again a brilliant piece of business, just like Tayo Edun or Harry Isted or Terry Taylor or Tennai Watson etc were last summer.
I don't really care why he is being sold, its the only 100% proven quality player in our squad seemingly passed to what is meant to be a rival this season.
Hopefully we get Luton Town Nathan Jones but I would argue Luton are the best run club, other then possibly Brighton in the entire pyramid so how much effect did that have on the success, as they got in the PL without him and I cannot so easily ignore that he completely failed at Stoke & Southampton.
So if it is due to a clash of personalities between Jones & May, I know which one in my mind is more guaranteed to bring success in his role.20 -
Also Birmingham will think they are guaranteeing goals but we thought the same about ladapo when he walked through the door and look what happened with him9

Alfie has done it 3 years in a row for sides struggling in League 1, not the runaway league1 winners!7
