Let’s be honest here, we were absolutely shit last season so what do we do let our 3 best players go.

From what I have seen so far not signed anyone who looks like he will tear up the division.

Seems madness but this is Charlton.

    Board are useless.

    In Jones the jury’s out.

    Where we go again
why the board useless , Jones is making the decisions on all incoming and out going players .. CBT refused to play for the club and pretended to be injured ? Dobson signed a contract ridiculously advised no one forced him to should have waited till end of season and not jumped for the only offer he received .. May, family already moved but was willing to stay until end of next season when his contract was up ( no extension would have been agreed ) a player who Jones said was only a squad player next season , financially 100% sell now make a massive profit on him or let him go for free 12 months time ??

So far our signings are excellent and will improve us there more to come in the coming days before we leave for our tour abroad
Ronnie may be correct here tbf

I'm starting to wonder if signing Godden adds up. I thought Jones wanted bigger, more athletic strikers than May? Godden is the same height as Alfie.
Some sites have him as 5’7 some have him as 5’11 if someone knows a cov fan can they ask. Always thought he was bigger than 5’7 so not the same height as May.
I’ve met him, I’m about 6ft3 and I would have Godden at about 5ft9
    6'3... are u single

I'm obviously unhappy May has left, but I do rate Godden. Bit concerned it may be a few years too late, but hopefully he offers more than May does for what Jones wants?

We 100% need more than that though, as I am fairly confident he won't score as many as May will. I don't view it as a like for like and think he should have been signed to play with May or as a rotation option.

Either way, as long as his age hasn't effected him, it's a good signing.

Godden is such an uninspiring replacement for Alfie May, it would have been a good deal 5 years ago. Oh well, I'll support him and the team regardless - but we better have a couple of aces up our sleeve or it's looking pretty grim.

Yeah I think if Godden signed to support/compete with May instead of replace him this would be seen as a very good signing - experienced, fits Jones' MO and a good record at this level. Only the age issue is a real concern.

We definitely need at least one more striker though.

    He was class for us.
Would loved to have kept him in the squad.
Will get 20 for you lot in that league good finisher.

IMO reading between the lines of the last 24 hours I’d say that a return is more likely than not at this stage. Would welcome him back.

A twitter feed on the Dobbo thread says he’s pulled out due to family reasons and is no longer in Hungary 🤔
Sure he knows the way to Sparrows Lane...just get y'self over there Georgie boy...🙄
Scott will be at the gates waiting to open them for him, then he'll walk out.

Agree, can't see any other scenario, Dobson was happy here, just needs a good chat (not with Scott), and contract, fingers firmly crossed...🤞

By the way Godden is a gooner so you can put the Charlton fan thing to bed

The thing to bear in mind that in a high-energy all action Jones team you don't necessarily need one player to score 20. There will be lots of rotation because the style can grind players down over time so what we need is for Godden, hopefully Ahadme, Leaburn, Aneke and Kanu to get something more like 30 goals between them. If the setup works and the recruitment goes well that's an average of 6 each. Very Curbsy, and you'd hope that at least one if not two of those would be getting at least 10 on their own

Older and worse than May. Perfect logic Charlton.
    You don’t know that.

Is Godden  better than May? All the evidence suggests he isn’t.

More the question should be is Gooden better for Jones style than May?

I don’t know how you’ve looked at Alfie May playing in League One and Matt Godden playing in the Championship and decided that you can conclude that Alfie is definitively the better player.

Last time Godden played in League One he scored a goal every 141 minutes. Last three seasons Alfie has scored every 151, 168 and 154 minutes.

Only Charlton....get rid of your top goal scorer and left with 2 crocks up top.
Leaburn is not a crock. He got injured by a very bad tackle in pre-season last year & on his comeback done his hamstring...which many many players have done in their careers.

If we brought in both Godden & Ahadme then I'd not be worried about our forward line at all.

Someone text golfie and tell him hes been hacked

He's played a higher level for longer and in a fairly decent team.

I do rate May and wanted him to stay but lets be honest, this isn't the worst replacement is it?

Also Birmingham will think they are guaranteeing goals but we thought the same about ladapo when he walked through the door and look what happened with him
    Behave!
Alfie has done it 3 years in a row for sides struggling in League 1, not the runaway league1 winners!
Shall we remind ourselves about Cole Stockton? Sometimes being the main man in a struggling team is beneficial for a player. May strikes me as someone who wants to be the big fish
Now you're just chatting absolute bollocks about someone's personality.

That’s not me arguing that Godden is definitively the better player either by the way. At this point I’d say it’s very hard to properly compare the two.

Godden did well in League One but also it was a few years ago now and he is older. But if his game relies on instincts and finishing ability, the small amount of pace he might’ve lost shouldn’t be an issue at our current level. We will have to wait and see.

The only way we are going to know for sure is when he pulls on the Charlton shirt starting in August.

More than happy with Godden , it's the other striker that worries me if we decide Ipswich want too much for Ahadme.

A creative midfielder would be next on my list

    What evidence?

How many seasons has May played in the championship?

I’m not defending Gosden here, neither am I going all Ronnie Moore and acting like he is Christ reincarnated but I don’t this k there is any clear evidence to suggest May is better
