Can't wait to watch another mid table battleYou may be right about the mid table battle, but I’m confident based on the players recruited, the better science department and the most qualified manager we’ve had in years that this will be the best season we’ve had in a while.
We've lost CBT in 23/24, haven't replaced him /his goals (because we dont now play with wingers ?) and..........We lost 11 games before CBT leftWe only lost 3 games after CBT left. Sounds like we were better off without him.I’m of course being deliberately provocative there but the point I’m making is that we didn’t need a like for like replacement because he wouldn’t have fit the system the manager wanted to play. Instead they brought in Thierry Small who was far more effective at being a wing back than CBT was.
Yes we might not now be playing with wingers but that leaves a problem......
WHERE ARE THE GOALS GOING TO COME FROM.
Jeez......its not rocket science. We've now replaced goal scoring wingers with non-goal scoring wing backs. And now we are going to sell our top goalscorer.
And it’s not like we've signed players who can score the goals that we've lost over the last 18 months. I really do hope there is a plan there somewhere because I cant see it.In 2018/19 we were promoted.73 goals for, 40 goals against. In 2019/20 we were relegated to L1.50 for, 65 against. The following season we were 7th.70 for, 55 against. Then 13th, 55, 59.Then 10th, 70, 66.
Then last season 16th, 64, 65.
It looks clear from those stats that barring 2018/19 we haven’t been anywhere near good enough.Improve the team, and the goals will come, so long as you don’t have an absolute donkey or donkies up front.I think that we will improve the team, from what I’ve read here at least.
We let in 2+ goals a league game on 19 occasions
Scoring goals was not the problem
It could be this coming season0 -

It's very clear. We don't have to sell May. Even if Jones doesn't rate him. He could be massive for us as a sub.
The reality is, the new owners are like all the others. They speak well but are not prepared to invest to get out of this God forsaken league.
Jones has to sell May to improve the team, but promotion next season is now off the agenda - again!!4 -

he gets a move, keeps his family close by, works for an old boss he admires, gets a pay rise and his wife gets more support for their kids. Maybe a player is doing what’s right for his family and himself!
I like how the first post makes it sound like a forced move and the second like it's a personal choice.

Huddersfield want May because Duff has asked them to go get him due to there previous working relationship. That doesn't mean there aren't other goal scorers out there that we can look at.
I imagine you'll find the Jones will want the team contributing goals so we aren't relying on one player to bang 20+ in. If Kanu/Adhame(?) and Leaburn get 10+ each with Godden potentially and Aneke chipping in that's a start then we have a midfield who are being engineered to chip in with goals.
If we had a better team for the sake of selling one man then that can't be a bad thing.

It’s clear he wants to go. So let him leave. I’m sure we will finish this season higher than last. Chill out

There is nothing that can be done and you might not like it but you have to get on with it.
We have to see what the club up there sleeve. It might surprise us.
Either way, I am sure NJ has a plan and for now, that's good enough for me.
I spend a ridiculous amount of money following and watching Charlton, players like May and Dobson make those drives and shit journies home a bit more bearable.
If people spend their hard earned, and are sacrificing their time and money to follow this club, it's perfectly acceptable for people to be pissed off when the club makes poor decisions.
This lethargic approach of 'crying' 'grown adults' 'bed wetters' etc is a complete piss take. It's fans who give a shit about the team venting, all the sniping is proper frustrating to read.
It's called having a passion. We're not armchair Man Utd fans. In Argentina, people cry when they score a goal!
If you prefer to support from a more distanced place, by all means, but I don't see any need to try and humiliate others fans who are more invested.Regarding what @Braziliance about the club making “poor decisions”. On the surface it does seem bonkers, but no one knows yet whether it’s a poor decision or a stroke of genius. Would it still be a poor decision if we get promoted and Huddersfield don’t?
It’s been quite clear from March / April that Jones hasn’t fancied Alfie. We don’t know why and I doubt we ever will. But he is the manager and he will live with the consequences of his decisions.
Everyone six months ago hated the model of players being forced on a manager and wanted the manager to be able to choose his squad. Now we have a manager with the remit to do it and the same people are upset because the manager doesn’t want the striker every fan loves.
a few poor decisions . We’re actually being run like a proper football club and that’s what people have been asking for since Roland . Carry on being negative about every little thing sad little man.8 -

Alfies brother, and parents are in West Malling/Kings Hill area
Alfie was home for about an hour last week (Tuesday or Wednesday) and I heard him putting some stuff in the car. Then the kids and Lauren got in and they left and haven’t been home since so I was surprised to see him playing cricket in the area last weekend as I assumed they were up north.
their house is back on the market too so I figured last week this would be the outcome but didn’t want to say as it’s not my place.
they both loved it here and wanted to stay here but it wasn’t to be. I think there may be personal reasons playing a part in this too but that’s none of anyone’s business.
Saying it’s not anyone’s business whilst also telling everyone the name of his wife, where they live, where roughly his brother and parents live, previously uploading a photo of their home, saying they haven’t been back home for a week and whatever else over however long it’s been, whilst also saying you didn’t want to say as it’s not your place is simply an astounding level of hypocrisy and ignorance. Even if he wasn’t moving to Huddersfield, which it looks as though he is, I wouldn’t blame him he was instead looking to move away, even if you helped him find this place, as all of his business is aired on a fans forum. But it’s not anyone’s business 😅
Fully anticipate backlash from this and it’s important to keep to the topic I know, but deary me.He lived next door to me for almost a year and I only admitted that when the rumours surfaced about him leaving. He was left alone to do his own thing so there were no breaches of trust. Even on the few times we met up socially we didn’t discuss football.at all. He’s a family man who missed the first few years of his first two sons because he was living away so maybe, just maybe, he wants to be with his family, help them grow up but also he wants to go to work and enjoy it - which we could all see he was not at the end of the season by being subbed.
he gets a move, keeps his family close by, works for an old boss he admires, gets a pay rise and his wife gets more support for their kids. Maybe a player is doing what’s right for his family and himself!
My only question is......would he have been looking to move if he was happier at the club ? ie, that he wasn't been subbed every week & that he was going to be pivotal in the managers plans.
my view is that the move to Yorkshire suits him and his family longer term.- manager he likes
- one final move for the family where the kids can settle into schools
- wife near her family
- one last bigger contract and wages
- more for his money in his forever home
falling out with jones might be part of the reason as could the club wanting money to balance the books, may wanting a better family life could all be part of why this is happening.
i know we joke on here about Huddersfield’s 15 year unbeaten run but they have played in the top two divisions now for a decade. In that time, we’ve had 4 years at championship level. They are a more attractive than us right now.
im pretty sure that everyone on here at some point in thier career have changed company despite being happy or content because the new offer suited life choices at the time.I don’t see this as another Scott Parker, kermogant or Danny Murphy situation, it’s a move that appears to suit both club and player. As a fan, does it make sense. No, of course not but as fans we probably only get to know about a very small percentage of the story.8 -
No incoming transfer rumours then?4

Jones plays a certain type of football, one where May clearly doesn’t fit (as a starter at least). This board said they are backing Jones, if Jones has said he wants the May money to go and get a player that better suits his system and will be more effective in helping the team to win games, then that’s what we need to do.16
-
Jones said he made some surprising transfer decisions at Luton that the fans didn’t agree with. Longer term look what happened. He didn’t get that chance to do that with Southampton or Stoke.
Someone mentioned on here or the other forum that May scored less goals from open play last season (17) with one assist than he did in the previous 2 years, where he also had more assists.Who knows how many he’ll get for Huddersfield. Who knows if he’ll be their main man!
looks pretty certain he won’t be ours.
Sounds like we have some deals in the pipeline, let’s see who walks through the door.
Berry and Mitchell sound like really good signings. Hard to tell with Edwards or Mannion yet.
We’ll know soon enough if 85 pages of Alfie May and his life story on here was worth everyone’s anxiety, or anger .2 -

I will (try) to not comment much more on this situation but I'm just hoping all you positive & upbeat posters are indeed correct and we go on to sign the half a dozen players we need to fill in the missing goals.
As they say in the investment world.....past performance is no guarantee of the future. Just hope that's right as last years players couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo. Apart from the ones that have left that is.5 -
For all the reasons why Alfie May might be transferred out I think the top one is the regime want to cash in, and I think the bottom one is that Alfie May would not fit into Nathan Jones’ preferred system, which is not credible to me.
The more sinister explanation is the notion that the centre forward and the team manager don’t get on personally, if that is the truth it is a red flag against Jones that can only be ignored if he wins game after game and automatic promotion.3 -
I agree that Berry Mitchell and Edward’s ‘sound like’ good signings, but when we got Alfie May last summer he didn’t sound like a good signing, to me he was an obvious ringingly clear good signing with hardly any doubts in play.2

Things may well be improving behind the scenes off the pitch but on the footballing side until I see any improvement I shall have my doubts they are any good.11
