There is nothing that can be done and you might not like it but you have to get on with it.
We have to see what the club up there sleeve. It might surprise us.
Either way, I am sure NJ has a plan and for now, that's good enough for me.
I spend a ridiculous amount of money following and watching Charlton, players like May and Dobson make those drives and shit journies home a bit more bearable.
If people spend their hard earned, and are sacrificing their time and money to follow this club, it's perfectly acceptable for people to be pissed off when the club makes poor decisions.
This lethargic approach of 'crying' 'grown adults' 'bed wetters' etc is a complete piss take. It's fans who give a shit about the team venting, all the sniping is proper frustrating to read.
It's called having a passion. We're not armchair Man Utd fans. In Argentina, people cry when they score a goal!
If you prefer to support from a more distanced place, by all means, but I don't see any need to try and humiliate others fans who are more invested.Regarding what @Braziliance about the club making “poor decisions”. On the surface it does seem bonkers, but no one knows yet whether it’s a poor decision or a stroke of genius. Would it still be a poor decision if we get promoted and Huddersfield don’t?
It’s been quite clear from March / April that Jones hasn’t fancied Alfie. We don’t know why and I doubt we ever will. But he is the manager and he will live with the consequences of his decisions.
Everyone six months ago hated the model of players being forced on a manager and wanted the manager to be able to choose his squad. Now we have a manager with the remit to do it and the same people are upset because the manager doesn’t want the striker every fan loves.
a few poor decisions . We’re actually being run like a proper football club and that’s what people have been asking for since Roland . Carry on being negative about every little thing sad little man.5 -

I've tried to remain mostly impartial, mostly because I genuinely do see that both arguments have merit but honestly both "sides" of this whole May argument don't come off particularly well any more.
May leaving DOES mean that we're going to need to make up a fair amount of goals. That's just a fact. The reason for his apparent departure doesn't come into that part of it - he goes and we need to do very good business or the team will be objectively weaker.
However it is possible that we COULD end up with a team that scores more overall and with better spread rather than relying almost entirely on one player and setting up a team that pretty much needs that one player to even work.
We could also end up with a team that doesn't work and now doesn't even have that "ace up the sleeve" of one proven goal scorer.
We could get promoted with May. We could fail to get promoted with May. We could get promoted without May, or we could fail to get promoted without him. All are possible.
But that doesn't mean that all this "realist" vs "SMT spokesperson"/"optimism" vs "bedwetter" tribal shit isn't deeply unedifying and slightly embarrassing for a bunch of adults.27 -

Alfies brother, and parents are in West Malling/Kings Hill area
Alfie was home for about an hour last week (Tuesday or Wednesday) and I heard him putting some stuff in the car. Then the kids and Lauren got in and they left and haven’t been home since so I was surprised to see him playing cricket in the area last weekend as I assumed they were up north.
their house is back on the market too so I figured last week this would be the outcome but didn’t want to say as it’s not my place.
they both loved it here and wanted to stay here but it wasn’t to be. I think there may be personal reasons playing a part in this too but that’s none of anyone’s business.
Saying it’s not anyone’s business whilst also telling everyone the name of his wife, where they live, where roughly his brother and parents live, previously uploading a photo of their home, saying they haven’t been back home for a week and whatever else over however long it’s been, whilst also saying you didn’t want to say as it’s not your place is simply an astounding level of hypocrisy and ignorance. Even if he wasn’t moving to Huddersfield, which it looks as though he is, I wouldn’t blame him he was instead looking to move away, even if you helped him find this place, as all of his business is aired on a fans forum. But it’s not anyone’s business 😅
Fully anticipate backlash from this and it’s important to keep to the topic I know, but deary me.He lived next door to me for almost a year and I only admitted that when the rumours surfaced about him leaving. He was left alone to do his own thing so there were no breaches of trust. Even on the few times we met up socially we didn’t discuss football.at all. He’s a family man who missed the first few years of his first two sons because he was living away so maybe, just maybe, he wants to be with his family, help them grow up but also he wants to go to work and enjoy it - which we could all see he was not at the end of the season by being subbed.
he gets a move, keeps his family close by, works for an old boss he admires, gets a pay rise and his wife gets more support for their kids. Maybe a player is doing what’s right for his family and himself!
You were in a fortunate position of living next to him, which happened because you pointed out to the club there was a home nearby that suited his needs, fine you were doing a favour but then you breached that level of respect and trust, and you seem unable to see the issue.
Whether there is different things out there saying something, you still posted a picture of where he lives/lived, you still spoke freely about his wife and children, you still named her, mentioned about his wider family, their whereabouts and comings and goings and whatever else. That was you, no one asked for it, you done that all by yourself. I then found it astoundingly hypocritical to then say about it not being anyone’s business when it was you who was making it everyone’s business.
May leaving to get a better move, with more money, under a manager who values him highly, and staying with family makes perfect sense. That was the case also last summer too. That is normal for a footballer and was all that ever needed to be said, done, finished. But what isn’t normal is the neighbours of such footballer sharing their business in a way that is only possible if you’re in a specific position, on a public forum “to paint a clearer picture” and then say it’s not anyone’s business when the whole time you’ve wanted to come across as this person who is close enough to them with some weird complex of being in the know and bragging who your neighbour is and whatever else.
This should be about football and people are always going to have opinions, but the moment people in a position like yours speaks of it in a personal capacity is when it gets messy and your failure to see that is ultimately a reflection on you.5 - Sponsored links:

The internet is weird.12

It looks to me like the signings that we thought were close like Ahadme and a senior GK are not as done and dusted as we had thought and hoped. With Ruddy it appears he has the opportunity of another golden payday which he’d be mad to reject and with Ahadme the reasons are less clear but no doubt will revolve around money for Ipswich and or the player. Big couple of weeks for the club because the first eleven isn’t anywhere near good enough as it stands and probably needs four starters at least.4
-
We all need to calm down a bit.
Do I think selling May is a big mistake - yes.
Did we cock it up with Dobson - yes.
Can we blame the board for letting CBT go - no.
Are we better off with this mob than we were with Southall or the Dentist - yes! There is always going to be two opinions. Let’s just stop digging people out for it.10 -
Come on we are all Charlton fans and want the best for the club. Can we stop digging each other out please…27

We haven't sold Alfie yet, now maybe we will, maybe we won't, but at least wait till a decision has been made, I am sure Nathan has all avenues covered, and any replacement lined up should the worse case scenario materialise...🤞0 -
One of the things about this site that grates occasionally is that, with certain topics, people dig their heels in on their side of an argument so much that it causes everything to become black or white with no shades inbetween. This then tends to lead to people digging each other out, becoming more unnecessarily aggressive to each other, and the name calling starts: “bedwetters” or “blindly loyal” or “apologists” or “Miserable bastards” or “talking bollocks” and so on. It’s childish.
Debate is great, but I don’t see why people can’t see that divisive topics are divisive because… opinion is split. Your view on Alfie May being sold or retained is no more or less valid than anyone else’s. Time may tell who was right and who was wrong, but the more likely outcome is that time will tell that both sides had a point.
Chill the f out.11 -

Oxford did it. 19th in 22/23 (2 points above relegation with 47 points), to 5th in 23/24 with 77 points, winning the playoffs. I don't remember them breaking the bank either.
MK Dons by contrast went the other way. 3rd in 21/22 with 89 points (missing automatic by 1 point) to 21st and relegation in 22/23 with 45 points!1 -
Whether the reason is May wants to move north or Jones doesn't see him as a main starter, or both of those reasons, we should still be in a position to keep May until the replacement/s is through the door.Jones has made it clear that players don't need to move on for financial reasons. So we can keep May until our new striker is signed. Selling May before that signing would be naive. We know from the past that deals can fall through.2
-
Several on here have reported that May fell out with Jones.
I have had a feeling over the last few season, even beyond Bows, that there was something wrong in the squad. I am not referring to ability, but a feeling that the squad was not pulling together, that there were cliques. That managers were being undermined behind their backs.
It is why I thought that Jones was absolutely the best man to manage our Club. There is only one way. The managers way.If May has decided that way is not for him, it is essential that he move on.That said, I find the alleged falling out a bit difficult to accept. I did not see any drop off in his determination or effort and I have no problem with players who are upset at being substituted.
My guess would be that May wants the security of another 3 year contract, and I would assume that if Huddersfield and Birmingham are offering c£1m for his services, his contract would pay him a lot more money than we are currently paying.
He has to look after his family and this could well be his last contract.5 -
I seem to be getting this advert on almost every page and it feels quite apt.13
-
I remember Jones’ taking May off at the Lincoln game straight after May had shouted back at him. Writing on the wall since then I reckon.9
-
Well this thread devolved real quickly to a bunch of middle aged men taking cheap shots at each over whether they view the club in a positive light or a negative light. Real housewives of southeast London type stuff. Great entertainment. Keep it up.22
