Cambridge came to the Valley in poor form and under very new management, with Neil Harris only appointed a few days ago. The visitors had probably the better of the first half, which was scrappy and uninspiring. They thrived on set pieces, having seven corners in the half, but failed to truly test Ashley Maynard-Brewer. Charlton were scrappy, defended resolutely, but found it difficult going forward.
The second half was much better for the Addicks. Alfie May scored on 51 minutes, set up by substitute Daniel Kanu, making an immediate impact. Charlton scored again through brilliant wing play from Corey Blackett-Taylor bursting into the box with successive stepovers and stutter steps before lofting an inch-perfect cross to find Chem Campbell’s head. At two up, Charlton looked good for the three points. That is, until the wheels fell off. With lagging legs, substitutions were made, but when the first went in on 87 minutes, from a basic corner set piece and a free header, the writing was on the wall. With our inability to keep clean sheets we always look vulnerable and, though we defended well for 85 minutes, we just couldn’t see the game out and the momentum shifted to the away side. With 8 minutes of added time, Cambridge had enough left to manufacture a comeback. The leveler came as the result of a rather dubious penalty, after Tayo Edun clipped the Cambridge attacker’s legs what looked to be a yard outside the box. Nevertheless, a penalty was given and dispatched in the 96th minute.
We’re an okay side going absolutely no where right now. We’re not tough enough and we’re not clever enough to be competing at the right end of the table and it remains seen whether anything significant will be done in the January transfer window to change it.

We Just can't keep clean sheets. Haven't been able to for a couple of years now. Stupid mistakes. Thomas who had a good game up until he left he's marker. It happens every game without fail. We look so lightweight and the only player who puts his foot , Dobson , isn't exactly a big lump.
We need to get in some players who are up for the fight in January. Or wait till the summer because we're not going to make the play offs.

Our teams single shared brain cell was missing for the first half then turned up for 35 mins, got cold, and left early. The thickest set of footballers I’ve ever seen at the valley.38
-
Awful first half. Fraser was particularly awful. Much more watchable second. Penalty was just outside, but did look inside on first viewing. Fair result, but ultimately, nowhere near where we need to be.1
-
Poor tactics from Appleton bringing on the youngsters when we're holding onto a lead. Attack is the best form of defence in my eyes but bringing on an extra defender invited them onto us. Not a lot of bottle in our team to fight for these sorts of results either. Poor and think the playoffs are starting to really slip away.33
-
Excellent review sums it up. Clearly going to be a tough ask of biblical proportions to get into the playoffs and I think in my opinion both Dobbo and Cbt will be off as they're wasted here. It will be interesting to see who we sign soon but seeing our kids thrown in so early is not we need over the next 20 matches.1

On the plus side, I got paid out by Bet365 when we went 2-0 up. So, every cloud .....14

Appleton yet again appeared to do nothing the first half when we were clearly second best. He made the obvious change for the second half, who’d have thought playing two strikers would be a good idea ???? Then when we were 2-0 up he started tinkering and making substitutions. We conceded two goals.9
-
Once we concede you have no confidence we can hold out. These players have no bottle.6
-
Corey Blackett-Taylor was roasting them for five minutes at the end there and we were pushing for the third. Then we made the changes and just let them back into it. All youngsters thrown into the fire together. What’s Louie Watson done to be left out? Appleton’s got to take responsibility for not seeing the game out and taking all three points.20

We are terrible at both attacking and defending corners and have been all season.7

Subs changed the flow of the game - simple5

8 first team players out but why start a 16 year old! Watson or Kanu should have started ahead. He looked scared. He would have made more of an impact at 2-0 than our Campbell did.Poor subs and overal, poor management by a poor manager!!
the penalty looked outside to me but we shouldn't have let them dominate for large periods to let them back in.
as long as I have a hole in my arse, I will not understand taking off May and leaving mbick, Kanu and Campbell as our first line of defence.6 -
By all accounts stupid substitutions, just don't think Appleton is the right man for this job.
Looking forward to his aftermatch excuses, just a cheap as chips appointment!
Guess he's hurting more than us supporters, starting Rylah whats that all about?9 -
Results like this make you wish you had a cup competition to look forward to.
Season’s practically over & it’s 9th Dec!! They’ll do well to give away them half season tickets.0 -
It would be interesting if you take away all the May goals where this team would be. The owners aren't going to pay out for new players. Same old story3
-
Kanu was one of our best battlers. Seeing as the team lacks this, why play Rylah ahead of him?5
-
There is no monopoly on feeling frustrated and angry and we ALL feel it. Some have more patience than others, but after that oh so predictable ending, it makes it that much harder to believe. How do you stop caring?

I’ve completely given up. I’ll start showing an interest again in the summer.11
-
Ach. They actually fought hard and defended brilliantly second half until two moments let us down. And yes, you knew I'd say this, but feel especially bad for Hector, who'd played close to a perfect game. Convinced we're cursed, but if we'd had people who weren't kids to bring on, it might have helped. If Kanu coming on was one turning point, CBT going off was the other4

As the saying goes - There are only three certainties in life: Death, Taxes and Charlton throwing away a lead.5
-
Woeful. Even at 2 up it flattered us across the 90.
I know we’ve got injuries, but Appleton looks clueless when it comes to team selection. Why put that kid in in the first half? He genuinely looks like he’s taking a wage knowing he’d have run out of ideas by March.
All it took was balls into our box for us to fall apart and Cambridge fully deserved the draw and to come back, if not more over the 90
Sick of seeing that spineless wretch of a man Fraser continue to get a place in this team. The Scottish Pirlo ffs. I’ll take a tartan pillow in the midfield ahead of him.May and Dobbo deserve so much more. The club continues to sink lower24 -
Penalty was never inside the area so from that perspective, robbed of two points.
However, if we hadn’t switched off and given away a stupid goal 5-10 minutes earlier, that poor decision by the ref wouldn’t have had the impact it did.
We can talk all day about other teams scoring three today, and if we’d done the same, we’d have won.But the key thing that @golfaddick is forgetting is that Barnsley, Peterborough and Blackpool’s defence only let in one goal between them.
When Blackpool only need one goal to win a game of football, and Charlton need three, it’s surely obvious where the problems are.5 -
I thought Hector had an excellent game. That is a positive.12
-
Absolutely criminal first half performance with not a single player walking away with any credit, but senior players like Fraser in particular should hang their heads in shame. Any decent team would have been 3 or 4 up but Cambridge were poor.We were very comfortable at 2-0 but completely fell asleep. Appleton can take a good chunk of credit for bringing on a bunch of kids to see out a game.4 points and 3 grim performances against Carlisle, Cheltenham and Cambridge is completely unacceptable. Unless we pull off a miracle in the January window it’s another mid table finish at best.3
-
Another manager showing the board the kids won’t work!5
-
Appleton fucked it. Started the wrong team (May on his own up front ffs). Then he corrected that, before throwing it away. At 2-1 why the fuck are we bringing on a 17 year old striker when we already have Kanu on the pitch!!! Left us with too many attackers on the pitch, Louie Watson sat on the bench15
-
100% Appleton to blame for that, too negative too early and we don't have the players to game it out.9
-
Completely down to Appleton…..subs were wrong17
