Scully is just coming back from a knee injury so don't think Pompey will be letting him go
Maybe the Poveda link will come back up.

You think we would actually be after a left sided wing-back considering the formation change, but don't think we have been linked with any.
  • A proper preparation job this with Chem going, get ready well in advance for a serious go next season.  Don’t mind it one bit.
  • Looking at his stats he's got 6 goals from 10 playing through the middle. Bit of a lump at 6ft3 and a good age with sell on potential.

Agree, that’s my main concern with 3-5-2. We need competition as a minimum on the left, and although we have Watson and Asiimwe on the right I’m not convinced by either. I think Asiimwe can get there in time, but next season might be too early for him to be first choice. Watson is one of those players who could go if circumstances work out, even if it’s not until the summer.

Can always switch it up to a more direct 41212 if needed
  • Looking at Reading were we not linked with Nesta Guinness-walker a few years back before he went to reading. I remember he was meant to be highly rated at Wimbledon.
Maybe an option for a wingback?

  • Maybe the new keeper will cover Istead! £5 offers for AMB and he’s off 😂

With only 2 senior wingers, looks like appletons commited to a 352 or similar.
@DOUCHER thought you said he was brought in by Scott to play a 4-3-3?

Been saying for a long time that the squad is woefully unbalanced and we are stuck with half a squad who are better in 4-3-3 and half that are better in a 3-5-2.

Always assumed with the signing of May and Jones that a move to 3-5-2 was on the cards. And our signings this window seem to fit that more.

CBT will defo be off, it will just be how much money we hold out for.

Also on another note, if you wanted to come up with agent talk why would you use a club in Hungary for that? Considering the only other noise we have heard about Dobson was from American clubs, I wouldn’t be shocked.

No wonder he sacked his agent.

perhaps they've seen sense at last !!!

Was just listening to Charlton Live and in the post-match press conference Appleton confirms that the club are building a squad towards a new formation, like the one we saw on Saturday
Yes, as we mentioned on here last week.. that we was planning to change formation.
  • Barrow agree Cole Stockton deal

I think with gillesphy here now and CBT potentially on his way out I could see this…

    AMB
    Watson - Jones - Hec - Gil - Edun
    Dobson - Bakinson / Lwat - Coventry
    Kanu / new - May

Still need a few faces through the door but maybe that’s where we are heading

personally I think we'll have more chance playing with 11
  • Lewis Ward undergoing medical, signed till end of season if OK

    Agreed.

When everyone is fit, we have 10 players that can play in the midfield 3 (I can see some of them going), but only 1 that can play left wing back and 2 that can play right wing back. Both positions need some focus.

  • Think TT must have a good agent, he’s a solid backup in a back 3 but not starting quality for either of those teams
  • Imagine we will be playing this then? Consistently I mean.

    5-3-2 Formation

Very unlikely we'll sign players with exactly those names in next two weeks I'd wager.
Thats a shame as fullback/winger is highly rated!

Honestly think this would be a mistake. Terrel Thomas isn’t great, but in a 3 at the back system he’s a lot better. And are you going to find a better player that’s happy to be a backup and on that wage? Seems like a good character behind the scenes also
Especially a mistake when you consider TT is 90 minutes good to go and some of our recent signings aren’t.

TT looked woeful when he was in for Edun but has looked okay at CB. Unless we have another permanent CB coming in who’s good to play 90 mins right away I’d keep TT until the end of the season.
  • The big question in my mind is whether we're recruiting for this season, to have a genuine attempt at the playoffs, or are we recruiting to finish the season well, and then go for it next season.

At the start of December, the playoffs were still a realistic goal, but the awful results since then have made it nearly impossible, so we really should be planning ahead for next season now, and while there will be players in the squad who aren't considered good enough, it doesn't make sense to replace all of them in a January window, when there will be better and more affordable alternatives in the summer.

The wing/full back options aren't good enough for a promotion side, and I'm unconvinced by both keepers, but that's less urgent than getting in a couple of strikers.

Depends who we bring in, he’s comfortably in that middle 8 group for me, unlikely to progress beyond L1. You need some players like that but maybe other clubs are willing to give him a longer contract and/or more game time than us.
