  • This deal is definitely not happening. If somehow Coventry does end up agreeing terms with us, we will lowball the transfer (that is yet to be agreed?) so that we can keep up the appearances of going for ambitious targets. Lets judge Rodwell/Scott on who actually ends up joining this window.
    This 100%

Let's judge them on who actually signs.

Not on who we are allegedly linked with.
  • Do you genuinely believe that will rid either thread of bickering, accusations, fish puns and general bullshit?
It’s gotta be worth a try.

    Fair enough, Bass the spirit.
  • The last 2 weeks don't say so.

And if we have to wait another 2 windows I hate to see what state we are in by Summer 2025.

I am voting with my feet. I had a ST all the way through the Duchatelet years (even when some were boycotting) and through ESI & Sandgaard. All I have seen & heard are empty promises. The team has gone backwards since relegation and the only bright spark has been Alfie May and CBT. The former is now being played out of position and the latter likely to be sold because he wont sign a new contract.

I now pick & choose my games and with recent results/performances I am unlikely to go much more this season. To get my back down to the Valley (and then buying a ST) I have to see better players being brought in & then played in their rightful positions. Not players with injury issues who haven't played all season.
Perfect post for the Disillusioned with Charlton thread. 👍
  • This is reasonable up to a point. To counter this I will then ask you -

Scott has had since August to identify players to bring in. Over the months it has become obvious that some players are not up to it /injured and so need replacing. When do YOU think these players should be signing - Jan 2nd or Feb 1st ?  And do YOU think a player who has not had a single minute of playing time this season is the right player to bring in.

As I said, i will judge in Feb.  Purely because I do not know who Scott has had conversations with, when and the outcome.  We may have had 10 bids accepted and players have rejected us.  We may have had bids accepted, terms agreed and the player has failed a medical. or, we may have done jack s**t.

There are lots of unknowns at this stage

If on the 1st Feb, we have signed 4 18 year olds on loan = failure
4 loans, two perms = undecided
2 loans and 4 perms = probably happy.

I have no clue whether a player with zero minutes is good or bad because sports science is out side of my knowledge. As a punt, bad, but I have no science behind that and will trust the footballing people at Charlton to make the correct decision.  Although, i get why trust levels are low.
  • Sam Walker gone so either Isted back soon or we might see links to keepers

  • And 6 weeks before the transfer window closed - a longer period than this winter one !

(I didn't realise that they completed the takeover well before the transfer window shut - makes  a mockery of this season !)
back at you, reasonable to a point.

They may have had 6 weeks in the summer but how many weeks were lost? how many targets had already moved by the time they took control?

I stand by my earlier comment that this is the window where I start judging them.

Noise levels have been good, actions/results are seriously lagging at this stage.

What would you do if a big mortgage broker sounded you out and said that in 6 weeks time they will make you a wonderful offer but cannot anything in writing, progress things for 6 weeks with zero guarantee that things materialise, compared with another good offer which is on the table now and will happen. What offer would you take?
  • I must admit unless we are sending back Watson/Chem Campbell I'm surprised we're linked with loans. Would have thought as and when Pan is fit (anyone seen a mention of when that could be?) We'll have all 5 loans in the squad.

Not if we have 4 loan CM’s effectively fighting for 1 spot next to Dobbo. You’d expect 1/2 of them missing from each squad

The true test of our recruitment is who we go for next, if JCH is a no go. If we go back in for someone like Humphry's great but if we end up with a last minute youngster on loan or an out of form player returning from injury who can be picked up a bit cheaper, the signs aren't good.
Surely we have to be looking at longstaff, if we're bidding 500k for a 29 Yr old, there's a better return you would hope on him?
  • I imagine Watson goes back in a couple of weeks
  • Not reading between the lines on Lutons managers recent comment, Sam

Langstaff is more in the Alfie May mould than JCH, we need more of a big lump for Alife to play off

It is football, things are always changing, players change minds more times than hot dinners.. Not everything does go to plan when recruiting players, and that's not only Charlton, that is clubs up and down the country!!

I am going to leave it here now..
    Good.

Plus we have Kanu as cover for May, we don’t need another striker in that mould.
  • I feel sorry for Bradford, Harry Lewis is a pretty decent keeper and one of their better players. To lose a keeper like that for Sam Walker as a replacement is pretty shoddy. Bradford criminally underachieving at present and can't imagine their fans being too happy about that.

Good signing for Carlisle genuinely, solid bet for promotion next year if they do go down, seem to have to found a bunch of owners that fancy a go at it. However long that lasts who knows

More like he's one that we might have a break clause in the contract on, and if Appleton has decided he doesn't rate him and brought in Bakinson and Fiorini, and at some stage you imagine could also have Dobson, Taylor, McGrandles, Camara and possibly another CM signing competing for a squad place, I can see Watson being recalled and sent somewhere else, regardless of whether the Luton boss thinks it's good for him or not
