If Dobson leaves then it’s all Bromley Addicks fault.

    Simple as that.

    Same goes for CBT too.
Na... they will just blame the owners!!
    As they should
If we were top 6, winning games, with a real chance of promotion and the club made them a good offer, they'd sign.

I wouldn't re-sign for us based on the current footballing prospects at CAFC

They must be crazy though- what with Appleton being the best coach in the world and all that...
Club is a mess.. It is no quick fix! this years of damage.. And if you are not going to allow time, it will never be fixed!

Super hero Varney isn't coming to the rescue.. suck it up, and support! We have little option..
    Hahaha superb.

But Charlie said it wasn't hard with better management to reduce the losses to £1.5m - £2m per year and establish ourselves as a top half Championship side.

If it's not hard how comes we're making it look quite difficult being a top half Division 3 side??...
Won't happen over night.. It takes time!
Andy Scott is on the record as saying we have a squad to compete for top 6.
    He said failure stops now
Methven said you only have to be better than previous owners to dramatically cut losses and establish ourselves in the top half of the Championship.

They were completely wrong or they aren't very good at their jobs.

Of course it would take time regardless of the manager etc

Right now though, we are lightyears away.
Scott hasn't got it right, everyone knows and the owners know that as well.. Let's see what happens over the next 2 windows, then make a real judgement!

As I said, it won't happen over night!

We are not looking to scrap the bottom of the barrel now.
    Two more windows
On top of the last two he's had some say in, plus this one?
    FIVE WINDOWS?
We are really setting the bar low aren't we
Please stop saying Scott has had two windows already. Please!!!

window 1. He was working for sandgaard under a completely different brief. The owner wanted out and wanted to reduce costs. From sandgaards point of view, last January was a good window.

window 2. What percentage of the window had gone when the new owners took control? How many realistic targets had moved on by that stage?

window 3. This is the first full window Scott has had.

Summary. As this is his first full window and I'll judge him come February.
This is his 3rd window (The 2nd one not a full one as highlighted below)

The whole of January last year

From the 21st July when his group that he’s employed by took over the club. His last 4 signings shown to be panic stations and 2 of those already thrown back

And 11 days into this one now and very likely to still be charge by the end of it
If you want to count the first one, then do.. But when was Scott appointed, wasn't right at the end of December, so there would have been no plan, and was still working with Gallen, and Martin S.. So not as straight forward as you think.. Summer was the same as well.. This is first real run at it, on his own, making decision without people from the other side to go through..
I just have Dubai and will continue to do so on here and on other platforms . I look at the dates and deal with the facts from there on.

Scott along with Holden, Warrick and Rodwell were appointed on the 20th December 2022

    https://www.charltonafc.com/news/holden-scott-rodwell-and-warrick-appointed-senior-roles
But but but - people will say they had their hands tied by TS .... no.... they were given a budget and told to get rid of dead wood also.   They did that quite well - I'll give them that, but anybody that lauds

    Penney
    Kane
The midfielder whose name I can barely remember
Hector (not bad, they can have that one)

and what they picked up last minute.com in the sales in August needs their bumps felt

    They talk a good game
but maybe they can't actually see a good player when it's smacking them in the face

I noticed from the presentation that not only do we have our own data analysts, but we are also using a data analyst firm

And yet we still keep signing shit!

Okay, 10 days before a window opens. As you say we will work on facts, as the article says ''Scott will work alongside Director of Recruiting, Steve Gallen, and Director of Analytics, Martin Sandgaard." He wasn't in-control of recruitment, he worked alongside Director of Recruitment, Steve Gallen. So we won't count that as a window then, as he wasn't in control.. And we can use that for the summer window as well, as the takeover wasn't until 21st July

Transfer window didn't close for 6 weeks and as Rodwell said, everything happens on the last day .... so not accepting it

    @fenaddick

I wasn't seriously suggesting to close the thread. Evidently by my posts I think they're full of absolute shit and desperate for fans not to kick up a fuss.

I am glad you enjoy the thread, I do as well. I was just pointing out the shit that was thrown up yesterday suggests we are in for the very driest of January's.

    @ValleyGary

What does wobble mean, is that some sort of suggestion I'm flapping in how I've posted or?

  • Ah the rumours thread, any actual rumours? No. I'll try again later, I guess....

  • Another one of those accounts claiming Gillesphey off so we can disregard that too. Does seem to be dragging on though

They not .. they had two weeks in the summer and this one .. everything else had to be agreed through TS ..
    More than 2 weeks

They took over the club on the 21st July

You would be no good if they were your specialist subject on Mastermind. You would be playing serious catch up on the general knowledge round

    https://www.charltonafc.com/news/global-football-partners-purchase-charlton-athletic
To be fair, the 21st July was two weeks before the season started!
The window closed on the 1st September 2023, so 6 weeks not the 2 that Moore keeps trotting out
There was a hint of sarcasm in my post

Anyway.. Coventry deal might be back on.. Shef Wed have refused to match our offer in terms of wages! So we are back in with a sniff, but there our 2 other championship clubs interested, but haven't agreed a fee as of yet. Might have been the player Scott was talking to last night.
As I said, footballers can change there minds very quickly, deals can be on and off all the time.

The last 2 weeks don't say so.

And if we have to wait another 2 windows I hate to see what state we are in by Summer 2025.

I am voting with my feet. I had a ST all the way through the Duchatelet years (even when some were boycotting) and through ESI & Sandgaard. All I have seen & heard are empty promises. The team has gone backwards since relegation and the only bright spark has been Alfie May and CBT. The former is now being played out of position and the latter likely to be sold because he wont sign a new contract.

I now pick & choose my games and with recent results/performances I am unlikely to go much more this season. To get my back down to the Valley (and then buying a ST) I have to see better players being brought in & then played in their rightful positions. Not players with injury issues who haven't played all season.
  • This is getting ridiculous! The thread title is January 2024 Transfer rumours, yet we have had pages and pages of discussing AS and how many windows he's had, added to last night's fans forum. Why can't this thread be about rumours and everything else go on another existing thread or start a new one. I log in of a morning see 60 or so unread posts....not one fucking rumour, just people bloody arguing again! Please can we just stick to any rumours, if any, and if not take the other stuff elsewhere...simple surely!
2 threads. 1. Actually summary of rumour (with source referenced)  similar to what the BBC produce. No discussion permitted. 2. A related discussion thread that references rumours in thread 1.
  • I'd love the Coventry deal to get across the line , would be a real statement move to get someone like him on a permanent. Of course it's naturally going to open up the can of worms about him being potentially Dobbos replacement. I'd be more surprised if it didn't facilitate a move out for Scott Fraser.

This is reasonable up to a point. To counter this I will then ask you -

Scott has had since August to identify players to bring in. Over the months it has become obvious that some players are not up to it /injured and so need replacing. When do YOU think these players should be signing - Jan 2nd or Feb 1st ?  And do YOU think a player who has not had a single minute of playing time this season is the right player to bring in.

To be fair, the 21st July was two weeks before the season started!
And 6 weeks before the transfer window closed - a longer period than this winter one !

(I didn't realise that they completed the takeover well before the transfer window shut - makes  a mockery of this season !)
