Michael Appleton’s first home game in charge saw visitors Wycombe Wanderers arrive in decent form after a poor start. Charlton played the best football in the second half, but always looked vulnerable on the counter. A great bit of play between Tyreece Campbell and Miles Leaburn was the difference, with MIles digging the ball out from is feet before firing past the keeper on 27 minutes.
Wycombe started the second half brighter and Charlton found themselves a bit at sea for thirty minutes. The changes on 80 minutes made a difference, with Chuks Aneke, Slobodan Tedic, and Tennai Watson coming on alongside a shift to 442. Watson and Tedic combined with a little one two that Tedic managed to float into the back of the net. The third came in added time, with birthday-boy Corey Blackett-Taylor bursting into the box past three players and slotting past the keeper with a right-foot-rocket that gave the keeper no chance.
It’s nice to celebrate a back-to-back win at the Valley. It could have even been that elusive clean sheet had it not been for an absolute stunner of a volley from Wycombe’s Potts.

The shift to 4-4-2 won it. Why didn’t we start with that formation?! Excellent win!3

What a good win yessss

Up to the heady heights of 16….BUT only 6 points from playoffs6

Far too early to get carried away but honestly you have to say Appleton has done as much as could be reasonably asked.
Even the one goal we did concede today wasn't really down to any defensive blunder.25 -
Appleton definitely changed the tactics a few times, plus used the bench in a gutsy way. Perhaps he isn’t the bland boss I thought he was34

Something felt different. If you have been a regular at The Valley in previous seasons you would have been convinced that after Wycombe equaliser we would have gone to lose or just draw that.
I thought we would struggle when I saw the team-sheet. No recognised full-back meant we would be limited in getting forward. Watson showed what a proper full-back can offer to us.MOTM: Campbell thought he took up some excellent positions and really got us playing good football when we were on top.7 points from previous 9 is us moving in the correct direction.COYR16 -
Apples and Oranges….much better…looked fitter and more organised8

Wycombe went five league games unbeaten before today so a good win against the type of sides you have to beat if you want to be in the promotion mix in May.
So many positive signs from us as well outside of the obvious three points - set pieces clearly improved being a major one. Credit to TC slotting into his midfield role really well too.We lost a bit of steam after half time until the subs were made but weathered the Wycombe storm and came on strong to secure the win.Appleton already earning his money. Pleased with what I’m seeing after two games.11 - Sponsored links:

3-1 totally flattered us . Wycombe looked like a decent side . When they equalised there looked like only one team was going to win and it wasn’t us but thanks to a scuffed shot and a brilliant individual goal from CBT, I can go home happy .Still lots of work to do. The right back Abankwah was pony again and when Watson came on to replace him , we looked far more assured .COYR!23

Best form in the League from last 3 matches:
7 points: CAFC, Portsmouth, Bristol Rovers, Orient

Defence is still porous. The centre backs do not command the area and the boy from Udinese is too raw. Maybe T Watson will make some difference.
But some of our attacking play is very good and we look dangerous going forward. If Appleton can improve the defence we should be able to climb the table.
Oh and although Isted's handling was good he did not make one save. Has he made one since he got in the first team?5 -
I liked the mire direct approach some players are going to have to impellor their long balls passes over midfield. Still do not like TC in thre middle. His best work was his interplay with Leaburn to set up his goal. That came from him being on the wing.
The defenders still look shakey though. What would the back four do without Dobson.2 -
Would have bitten your hand off for a draw with the way that second half was going. Hate to dig out a young player playing out of position but we need to do whatever it takes to get Abankwah out of the lineup for the next game, I’ve not seen a player struggle that much for a while and I just felt sorry for him being thrown into that situation.First half was the first time we’ve actually looked like we’ve got something about us all season. If we can get a few more midfielders fit we can start moving up to the top half at least.2

good substitutes today. Brave move to try and win the game by taking off defensive players.3-1 is 3-1 no complaints today.8

watson and tedic one two???? Blacker-Taylor to May. May stood there waiting for watsons run, played watson in who cut back for tedic who mis hit into the goal side of the side netting

Good comments from Appleton in the post match. Talks like someone who knows what he’s doing.9

Tennai coming on finally have some attacking intent down the right. He needs to stay in the team as much as Hector needs to stay out!6

Best I've seen us play in a very long time. We look organised, threatening and subs were good.
Wycombe are a poor team, bollocks to there form. Isted had nothing to do really and was fantastic claiming the ball etc.
Really hope we can build on this!3 - Sponsored links:

@Todds_right_hook I suspect that was a brain fart from @LoOkOuT, and he meant the first half, given the reference to Leaburn's goal.

It makes SUCH a difference having a decent bench, something Holden will be ruing...
Was surprised Chem didn't come on, as we ended up with a slightly odd looking formation with Tedic on the right, and May in midfield, but it worked.
An interesting decision to start with Tupac in the number 10 position, but I'm not convinced it really suits him.14 -

Right subs at the right time, both games so far.
"I think we've got a really good guy in charge of the team at the moment" [Steve Brown].
I agree.11 -
There’s potential in this squad, we have goals in us but still defensive weaknesses to be concerned about. We’ll need to improve and show consistency but there’s enough there not to write our season off yet.7

Great management today.

Must say i'm impressed with Appleton today. Subs were spot on and that and the change of tactics got us the win. Would have probably lost this game a few weeks ago.3

1st half we were great - lost our way a bit start of 2nd half for circa 25 mins - but subs and formation change made all the difference - we were well worth the win
Special call out for CBT - superb goal on his birthday
Feel good factor on a Saturday night 😀2
