Only watched in parts due to a shite stream but it felt like we were never likely to score. Desperate for a partner for May.

Nice day out with a mate ruined by a football game.

Great. Couldnt find a post match thread so posted on the match thread only to find it now closed.

Can't be arsed to repost. If you want my views then read it on the other thread.

But in essence....same old same old. New signings needed & the longer we wait the worse it will get.

Currently the squad looks very similar to last season with the same issues.

Up top we look toothless and at the back we're conceding far too many easy chances.

We gave a good effort today but the quality just wasn't there.

    Powder puff.
From the number of high balls sent towards the front line I can only assume that nobody has explained to the players that Miles Leaburn isn't playing at the moment.

Nothing we didn’t already know but we lack quality across the squad, especially going forward.

Big few weeks coming up - we need a couple of strikers and more starting 11 quality players in general, with the focus more on attacking players over defensive. That would give us a stronger bench with players who can come on and change the game - we need to improve our record when we go behind in a game.

I hope we’re not relying on players moving on because that could potentially see us miss out on our targets.

I imagine there’s a few young Prem loans we’re working on amongst the players we’re looking at. We need them to make the sort of impact JRS, Cullen and Bielik did. They all joined after the season started which shows if the budget is there it’s possible to improve a squad this late in the window.

  • Need another striker and a LCB if we want to play 3 at the back.

Sloppy in possession and Holden waits too long to change things up.

A positive, (bar the final corner of the game), I thought Edun looked good, strong in the tackle and looks to play forward passes rather than pass sideways or back to the CB’s.

Squad needs a bit of work.

We look like a mid-table team at the moment.

What are the tactics? Give it out wide and simply hope for individual magic? Unless we somehow magic another player of JRS' quality then the midfield need to start creating more. May is so isolated up top it's criminal.

Our set pieces are so painfully bad it's embarrassing, and we've supposedly signed a set piece specialist who's so unfit he's not even warranted a spot on the bench.

A few poor performers but Jack Payne was so bad his substitution was cheered.

Frustrating performance because I can see genuine seeds of quality in there. A good partner for May, remove the stupid mistakes, even a week or two more to get fitness up and this team could be pretty good.

There's some very obvious weaknesses still and the depth isn't there for a whole season but we're very close to a good thing, but not close enough yet.

As I just said on the match the other thread, we could easily have nicked a draw, and there'd be much more positivity if we had. A big 'if' I know.

    Positives for me were;

AMB who looked very good today. Decent distribution as well.
Ness. Much better performance. Great tackle at the end.
Dobbo, extremely good today. He's some player, not just a tackler.
Corey. Again our biggest threat. Could have had a goal and/or an assist today.
The brothers, Asiimwe and Anderson. Great performances bearing in mind their ages.
Edun, again looked good apart from the final free kick.
Camara, decent performance, barring the howler.
Payne. Good game by him. Always worked hard.

One of the negatives were the corners. Posh played those short ones very well, but we lacked the confidence to try that for some reason.

We clearly need more quality. A target man for May to work around is key.

[And @seth plum, your players marks were a bit mental mate].

Not a classic anyway but the game was spoiled by over-officious refereeing. A ridiculous number of yellow cards in what was a competitive but never nasty match.

We improved in the second half and might well have grabbed an equaliser but overall I don’t feel we can complain too much about the result. Feel bad for Camara - that was a bad error for their goal but otherwise he was decent.

Jack Payne doesn’t deserve all the brickbats he gets on here. He obviously lacks physicality but in my opinion he was one of our better players today. Tayo Edun had another very strong cameo. I’m looking forward to seeing him play when he’s fully fit and integrated.

But more than anything else, today confirmed that we badly need a few quality additions. Without reinforcements our squad is top ten at best. I remain hopeful that the squad going into September will be substantially stronger than the one we saw today.

See to me they looked very inexperienced and probably shouldn't be starting. Were some of our weakest players.

Thought we were the better team overall and seemed in control for the most part, but without creating much of meaning. Annoying. Cheap goal to lose , standard

Fucking pony. 6-7 decent players short in my opinion. Only dobbo worthy of any praise. Camara at fault for the goal. They were poor as well.

Agree regarding Payne. Not sure what he offers at all. His first touch is absolutely appalling.

I disagree with that! Whilst we huffed and puffed we controlled large portions of that game! We just miss that cutting edge up top! We will look a completely different if we bring in big man like we have all said to compliment May. May will automatically look  a completely different player!

He had no options every time he got the ball. Gutless performance apart from him.

May is lively but he needs service
Dobson is quality but he can't do it all himself
Payne, and Kirk.  If they were just squad players we'd be ok.  But they aren't.   We need better.   Our attacking options are very poor.

Defensively we're average.  Therefore we need to improve that but going forward we simply have no invention.

Nobody to play between the lines.   Nobody to do something different, something creative.

Taylor will improve set pieces.  Leaburn will help the attacking line but if we rely on Fraser and CBT for impetus, we simply won't have enough.

JCH did fuck all today yet still hit the post.  Their 22 was different gravy.  We are behind Peterborough.  By quite away.

At the end of the transfer window we MAY start to catch up but we'll be a couple of months off them.

    Let alone Pompey, Bolton, Barnsley.

We've had the same issues for a long time.   I don't want to hear the transfer window goes to end of August etc.   We want out of this division now.   I fear that isn't going to happen.

Our patterns of play are too rigid.  Too obvious.

Better than last year?  Most likely.  Not good enough for promotion?  Even more likely.

Showed today that we are not far off but we need more goal threats. For me it was a 50/50 game, maybe we slightly edged it, but we will drop points until this is addressed.

Payne is a better option than Kirk. He was busy today but lacked that bit of quality. CBT is probably our main threat playing where he is and fortunately Holden is not daft enough to change his position. We need a new player in there.

I honestly didn't see that. One or two went astray, but woeful?

They are very inexperienced. But chucked in at the deep end I thought they did well. They should be back up players though, not playing 90 mins every week.
