  • Todd Kane will be a good signing, he is a good age, played most of his career in the championship. They are the type of signings we need to be making.

Oh no! Not Bonne please.. Everyone will go on about the goals he scored.. He should have had 25 goals, the amount of great chances he had. Still believe if he had put away a couple of those we would have stayed up, and might be a different story now!

But lets get realistic - unless we are paying to wages, this is the pond we are fishing in!

Bonne was good before Christmas in the championship.  He fizzled out just like everyone else that season .
Wouldn't say he was good, scored a few miss hits, and a decent strike against Derby. Wouldn't say he was good.. More the fact he had some good players around him, putting them on a plate for him
  • On  31 January 2018, Kane joined Oxford United on loan for the remainder of the season.[36][37] On 3 February 2018, Kane made his debut in a 3–2 win over Charlton Athletic where Kane also scored the equaliser to make it 2–2 in the 89th minute.[38] On 28 April 2018, Kane scored the winning penalty to ensure Oxford United's place in League One the following season with

  • Bonne until the end of the season probably OK. On a longer contract is a statement of what to expect in the summer window. Mid table League 1 at best.
  • It seems like every player we've signed in the last few years states he has "unfinished business" in his first press conference

Funny how people are saying to ‘get over’ the fact Bonne laughed/mocked the club twice. Personally, I have more self respect than to cheer and be happy we are signing a player who has disrespected Charlton, his gobby bird and mum also did the same.
Supposedly the social media thing was actually against QPR not us…

Cawley has suggested this, and since said he didn’t get on with qpr

Scored 1 goal from 30 after that initial streak for them.
  • How would Bonne work in our formation?

Kind of getting used to having Leaburn up top with JRS and CBT either side. Bonne will play centrally so where does Leaburn play? Does he get dropped or is the plan to just rotate them?
  • Decided to have a look a the goals he scored for Ipswich last season:

    https://youtu.be/qgWMmX8rebw

Theres actually some real top finishes in there.

However he is also capable of this:

Let’s hope he is on one of his hot streaks when we sign him, because clearly he can be an asset.
  • We're an average league one club (as it stands) signing an average league one player.

I don't rate him at all, but at least you know he'll probably chip in a couple of goals.

That sums up most league 1 forwards. That's why they are league 1

I welcome these moves as long they don't mean any key player is leaving. Both Bonne and Kane have a six month window to earn a contract.

In squad terms I see Kane as a replacement for Egbo as Manny has a season ending injury.Adding Edun would mean that we have three fit specialised full back options plus Clare as a utility defender/ midfielder.

I would still like a couple of others so that we can build a squad ready to kick on next season.
We are building a squad of players that will be out of contract at the end of the season. By the end of the window we will probably have about eight players contracted for next season and one might be Stockley who we don’t really want. In the summer we could need another massive recruitment drive and maybe, hopefully not though, looking for a new manager. Not any long term planning going on.
Unfortunately that's probably currently because no-one currently knows who is going to be running the show/footing the bills in the summer. Methven and Co? Sandgaard? A.N. Other?

Its not a great situation but not one the actual hands on side of scouting/recruitment are to blame for or able to change. Its purely makeshift and make-do and that's what they have to work with.
dded to the fact that most of the players we've paid money for and brought in on longer deals, are the one's we're trying to get rid of !!!  :D
Everyone goes on about how important it is to have long term planning, and get key players signed up on long term contracts. The flip side is being lumbered with unwanted or unfit players signed up on long term contracts. The likes of Stockley, Aneke, Kirk, DJ and Lavelle.
Absolutely - the surest way of doing it is to hang on to the good ones you already have - dobbo springs massively to mind
  • QPR mate said Kane will do a good job for us but will piss everyone around him off. From other comments sounds like he has a reputation.

Don’t know anything about Kane. What can we expect ?
    Inferno match with the Undertaker
    THAT'S GOTTA BE KANE
Mask v mask match Versus Sean Clare for the right back spot in a steel cage !
Mankind Kevin Foley is coming back.
    Stone cold Stevens?
  • Im not worried about Kanes ‘reputation’. Holden doesn’t look like a manager youd wanna piss off.
Ha ha, might not only be the tactics board that gets a boot through it if anyone steps out of line.
  • Leaburn will make Bonne look awful, or help him look good. You just never know in this game.

One thing is for sure, though: we will have to support him, or else it will be another Stockley MK 2 (performance and current fit wise).

There is also the possibility that we'll go back to 3-5-2 with Leaburn | Bonne up front

With the defensive signings we are looking to be making it certainly looks like it’s an option, especially if we ship out Kirk and DJ - as we then won’t really have the cover for CBT and JRS and to play a 4-3-3.

If that is the road we are going down, I can’t see where JRS fits into it.

  • I don’t mind Bonne coming back.  He’s half decent and at the moment, probably a slight upgrade on Stockley who for some reason has gone backwards this season. What I don’t want to see is a player with an attitude problem because if things don’t start going his way, I can see the toys being thrown out of the pram. Hopefully, Holden will have him under control and can get him playing like he did when we were in the Championship last time out. That game against Bristol City was probably his best game in a Charlton shirt.

There should also be the option to change formation within games as necessary.
