DJ not going anywhere today.  Playing for the u21s.
    And scored after 4 minutes.
It's the main problem with DJ another with fitness issues that could and should be doing better. The whole reason we've kept half our squad is because their fitness is so shite.

Remember when we all felt like we were short of a decent striker?

Then we signed Bonne, (about to) let go of Stockley and are still in exactly the same position.

    Money saved though I bet.
And love or hate Bonne. He's much much better than this crocked version of Stockley
Bonne hasn't scored a goal in over a year.
He's played a lot less minutes than Stockley and first half of this season he's been primarily used at the end of games in the Championship.

He was Ipswich's top scorer until they brought in better last season - he got 11 in the first half the season and then again became an option to close out games.

Would you be happy with Leaburn and Bonne (+ Aneke occasionally) as our promotion-chasing strikers for 2023/24?

    I certainly wouldn't.
Absolutely not. We need at least two new forwards through the door in Summer. We need Kanu to go out on loan for the rest of the season too.

Aneke's contract simply needs terminating when this season is statistically over.
Hasn't Aneke got 2 years left to run?

Surely the owner would have to pay him to the end of his contract to get rid of him. Even for a sick.ktw, it must be better to keep him at the club than waste two years salary for nothing.

    2 years, 5 months, 1 day, 9 hours and 42 minutes.
As he only ever plays 20 minutes and is out most of the time that is 3 months and 2 days in "Chuckstime".

What is the point in terminating Chuks contract? If we are going to pay him off we may as well keep him and use him off the bench for the few hours he is available a season.
We're limited to 20 registered senior players, I believe. I'd prefer we didn't have to have this discussion, but that's a wasted spot if we're going to keep Chuks in there for around 360 minutes a season.

Going the rest of the season with Bonne,Leaburn , Aneke (when available) is dangerous even if we play 433

I'd like to think they've let Stockley go to sign a replacement that's more suited to Holden's style but I think that's unlikely.
Got to be signing at least 1 striker surely. And I mean a proper striker, not another 10 a season lump (we've already have Bonne).

This is exactly what I would hope will happen. I doubt it will though and we'll just sign Kilkenny as the 5th loanee and that'll be that.

Would be looking at getting Kanu a National League loan spell like Anderson has gone to Aldershot for.

Looks like another summer rebuild in the offing if all we are bringing in are loans & getting rid of contracted players.

what could go wrong with that............. :D

We will end up of 6 loans.  No way that Sessegnon, Todd and Penney all make the match day 18 anyway.  We could always make one of latter 2 "permanent" outside the window anyway.

Not sure what the rush is getting Kanu out on loan either the rest of the season and a couple of cameos will do him good.

22 players, which doesn’t include goalkeepers and obviously u21s. I don’t think squad space will be a problem. Obviously his fitness record is pitiful, even if we only got 360 minutes out of him next season, I bet he’d still win us a few points. I’d take that over just paying him off and not having him - who knows, we might even be able to get him on the pitch as much as we did under Bowyer, although I’d be fucking amazed if that happened.
  • If and when Stockley goes it is suicide to only have Leaburn and Bonne as senior striking options....
  • Hartlepool were rocked when news emerged of a bid for star striker Josh Umerah from League One side Burton Albion…..
  • Who the hell is Mansfield?
  • As we are mid table. Stockley, going, going and nearly gone, this would be a good time to give some game time to Daniel Kanu off the bench. He can play in a two with Leaburn (if still here on Feb 1st?) Or come on and play in a 3 up front similar to his great first touch and great cross for Miles goal. As CBT is a 60 minute player, a great opportunity to blood Kanu on a regular basis.
Other 18 year old strikers who didn't score as many goals in U18'S football as DK are getting their chance in Championship and League 1 football.

Leaburn, Bonne, Kanu, and the winger/forwards Rak Sakyi, CBT, Campbell and with one more number 10 type forward incoming (or not ?) then we can probably just about manage.

Bolton with a strategy to fit Evatt's style of play have kicked on from last season.
If only we could do the same then the second half of this season will be the prelude to the next August window and a much improved side and results.

Is that possible under Thomas Sandgaard?
The last 48 hours of this window may give a clue or just confirm the cost cutting exercise.

Glad to see nobody is worried Dobbo will be sold. A new deal announced would be better than any new signings atm.
George Dobson - Midfielder- Signed on a 2 year deal - Page 22 — Charlton Life

    My thoughts exactly.  ;)
He could sign 10 year deal don’t mean he won’t leave .. contracts not worth the paper they’re printed on . Agents don’t care about contracts most don’t care about their players to be honest they just see the pound signs ..
Get him on a decent contract and u get decent transfer fee, something we still haven't grasped as a club after many years...
  • Fleetwood getting a complete new strike force

We have decent contracts to DJ, Kirk, Lavelle, Aneke etc. All worth nothing now.
  • Happy to get kirk and stockley of the wage bill even if replaced with loans till the summer. That's when the squad needs a rebuild.
    Ad infinitum! 😕
  • Fleetwood getting a complete new strike force
I’m sure his efforts will appreciate the sentiment.

I get where you are coming from Golfie, but a few loans and players like Stockley moved on wouldn’t be a bad window.  We’re not in a position to know the future of the club long term, and IF that statement re: our new owners is true, then our transfer strategy kinda makes sense.

The last 2 Jan windows have seen permanent signings of Mansfield, Schwartz, Fraser and Aneke.  You could argue Fraser has or will go onto have an impact, but the other 3 haven’t for one reason or another.

This, coupled with Kirk and Stockley signing for decent fees in the summer of 21, plus a number of other misfits and overall, poor players, very clearly highlights a failed recruitment policy.

How and why I don’t know.  I’m sure having MS involved is a big problem, but for me, why would anyone want us to be making long term signings now, given the history of the last 2 year and the uncertainty surrounding the club, unless they are proven s*** hot players, I don’t know.

The season is dead.  We have enough to stay up, and the pond we are fishing in for players won’t allow us to get the quality to mount an unlikely play off challenge.

I agree we need quality, but this isn’t the window.

it’s all about seeing where we go with this takeover and seeing the back of TS
And the summer one is ???  Our recent history in the summer is nothing to write home about. Actually it is something to write home about as I seem to do it every August. This season is was no left back & very little upfront. And we've paid for those errors by being 15th at the end of January with no prospect of the play offs.

But just remind me again in August that I shouldn't panic & signings will happen.

    Gah  !!
