Post-match Thread: Charlton Athletic v Gillingham | Tuesday 15 March 2022

Much better this evening. I thought we came out bright and dominated possession in the first half. With Stockley and Washington reunited up front, the band was back together. For the first 35 minutes or so, we played some nice forward play but lacked efforts on goal. Corey Blackett-Taylor prodded and probed on the left to great effect and Fraser and Gilbey exploited the gaps in behind their midfield. The break through came before halftime with Gilbey rifling a shot into the back of the net.

We defended well, with a backline anchored by Lavelle. No obvious defensive lapses helped with confidence to build up play from the back.

Clean sheet. Win. You could see the relief in Jacko’s face at the final whistle. First win in eight.

  • Should be safe now. 10 point gap to the relegation zone, game in hand, much better goal difference. Can build for next year now.

Relieved! Massive job ahead in the summer.
  • A clean sheet win!!
  • Much better. Lavelle looking proper, CBT and Fraser starting to show. Washington and Stockley are crucial.
Maybe it has been the injuries and we’re not such an awful side?
  • Gilbey being lined for an interview on Charlton TV.

Who's asking the questions: Charlotte or Leuth?

  • Massive win, just hope they can take a little bit more confidence into the next game, should cheer us all up for a few days!
  • We won but we didn’t play particularly well against a poor team. It’s three points but I can’t get too excited about it. May mean we will finish near the top fourteen which is some achievement.
And our goal came from their keeper dropping one....

We were the better team, just.

    What a difference a win makes !
10 points off relegation and high negative goal difference for the bottom clubs. Important game to win and eases the pressure all round.
Would like to see the team follow up on Saturday with another victory & secure League 1 safety as soon as possible.

  • Hopefully that’s us safe now?
  • Back to back clean sheets at home.
