Add me to the list of the ‘not that bothered’, assuming we get a decent fee (which for me is only around 2m, plus serious add ons)
He’s so new to all this that it’s hard to be too upset - look at the tens of players who played at a much higher level at his age, only to burn out. I hope he doesn’t but this is probably as likely as him becoming the next Lookman etc
If it's not multiple millions it isn't 'substantial'.
How easy is it to reject £2m or £5m at this level, and then watch Burstow get a career ending injury against Wimbledon?
Sorry but that's bonkers reasoning. That means everyone should sell their players for peanuts just in case they get an injury over the next few matches? 2mil would be an insult. We can't expect a Lookman figure but we shouldn't be accepting less than 3/4 plus add ons.
For what it's worth I've got no issue with selling young players if you get a good fee and the money gets reinvested. But selling him now with Stockley injured would be a bit mental given he's in the first team squad. Maybe we can get Kanu into the first team squad and then sell him over the summer (if he's even signed a contract).
This club never fails to disappoint to be honest. But we're going absolutely nowhere so I won't blame Burstow one bit if he moves on.
Guess its just me that doesnt see £2m or £5m as peanuts for a League One player.
5mil isn't, but 2mil wouldn't be great. Generally, it's not peanuts for a League One player but he's only 18, not an experienced League 1 player like Washington. Obviously we need to see what happened but it's just typical.
And I don’t mean that in a passive aggressive way, but genuinely just not that fussed.
He’s a good prospect, but I don’t think he’s the world beater some have made him out to be, despite the goals he’s scored.
We would always lose him at some point, and I’d hedge my bets that this is likely to be a mid-table season anyway.
Of course I’d wish him the best of luck and would hope he does well.
But I just don’t really feel much emotional connection to it the way I have done on previous sales, for some reason 🤷♂️
Dont see the point in getting angry over anything to do with Football anymore.
Used to get into endless arguments on here after a bad result because I'd get worked up - Someone oin here replied to a post of mine and told me to chill out, and stop getting so angry - Having a swear | rant | argument aint going to change anything.
Wasn't one of the positives that we would be able to hold onto prospects and demand a better fee?
This just calls back to the Roland days of shipping a youth player out the moment a bid comes in.
We've not even had a fee suggested and people are comparing Sandgaard to Roland!
The deadline day sale of a top prospect does seem to ring a bell from Roland yes.
We’ve been doing this for decades. Way before Roland. Parker and Reid come immediately to mind, albeit Reid wasn’t a “prospect”.
Thats not correct in Parker’s case. Chelsea moved in early. The entire club fought tooth and nail for almost the entire window to keep Parker, and at least finally got Putin, sorry, Abramovic to pay full whack.
We still sold him at the end of the transfer window.
After he refused point blank to play any more. And let's remember he was way older and more experienced than Burstow at the time, and had already thrown his toys out of the pram a season earlier when there was talk of a bid.
234 minutes of League One football. That's all we will have seen of Mason Burstow. What's the point of the academy system when this shit happens?
Well the Q&A with Thomas will make for interesting listening. I'll certainly have questions....
Not one premier league side is so impoverished and desperate for an 18 year old centre forward they can't behave themselves better in the January window.
Not one of us has a right to blame Mason Burstow who seems like a lovely kid but all this "he could get a career ending injury next week" is flannell. How often does that happen?
I'll be gutted when he goes because he's good I suppose at least we aren't selling him in the middle of a battle either end if the table. But we now have no other strikers having rightly let Josh go and get some minutes elsewhere
I'd love us to temper the predictable last day of the window loss of one of our better players by announcing the sneaky signing of Mandron, Oliver, Bishop or Matt Stevens but in reality we just need to get deals done ready to announce in the summer

You would think Charlton are in a strong bargaining position (relatively speaking) here. No premiership team needs an 18 year old who's only scored 2 league goals and only played 4 hours of league football. Therefore the only reason there's bids are coming in today is because the bidding clubs think the price will rise significantly if they wait til the summer. That means we can stick to our price now, and wait for an acceptable bid.
Easy to say when we’re not writing the cheques but this is hugely disappointing after only a handful of games.
If there is no loan back for the rest of the season, it leaves us with only Washington and Aneke as strikers at present and the hope that neither or both pick up an injury. With just 5 points above the drop zone, I hope that we don’t find ourselves sucked into a dogfight, which I fear is a real possibility.
Fact is, he's not a youth player walking away after years of coaching. It might actually help persuade players like Kanu to sign up, as we won't stand in the way of moving on if a fair offer is made. Be gutted to see him leave so soon, but hopefully we have another forward lined up to replace him and spend a bit more $$
This transfer, assuming it happens, will show our other academy prospects the value (in every sense) of first team football exposure. Should make getting them to sign their contacts that much easier.

If we've got a decent fee compared to letting the likes of Aribo go for free then great.

We all know that he was bound to go soon but when we can't keep a young prospect for more than a few months it is all becoming pointless.
Do we retire Mason's shirt number if he leaves?
Suspect we've allowed Mason to talk to the clubs based on the fact that we expect a bid to come in before the deadline that will meet our valuation.

Simple. Just say no!
