Worth remembering no deal is done as yet.
If he's been given permission to talk to Chelsea then I'd say it's a done deal.
They will offer him life changing wages.
Why did he pick us over them when he left Maidstone then... Dont understand that decision

I'll probably regret this, but part of me hopes it is Chelsea talking to him
Chelsea never offered him a deal did they? They had him on trial and dithered, we swooped in and put a contract in front of him and he signed it.
And then we get £3-5m for him, then that’s cracking business

Wouldn't consider £2m 'substantial' in today's market. Would be disappointed if that's the agreed fee.
Where did you read 2 million?
  • If we do sell him with zero loan back and zero replacement.

We have Aneke, Washington as our only strikers at the end of the transfer window. Stockley is M.I.A. and has been 'a few weeks away' for a month.
  • Wouldn't mind if the fee is substantial (£3m+, to fund our promotion push next season) AND he is loaned back for the rest of the season and maybe next.  League 1 is his level right now, and he's only 18!

Just in response to some comments mentioning fees in that region a few pages back. Not ITK.

Am I the only one who just isn’t that bothered?

And I don’t mean that in a passive aggressive way, but genuinely just not that fussed.

He’s a good prospect, but I don’t think he’s the world beater some have made him out to be, despite the goals he’s scored.

We would always lose him at some point, and I’d hedge my bets that this is likely to be a mid-table season anyway.

Just don’t really feel much emotional connection to it the way I have done on previous sales, for some reason 🤷‍♂️
    I agree.

  • £4-5m plus add ons will be a good deal for the club, at least we are in a position to hold out on a young player on a long term contract. His Grandad and uncle will be gutted but good luck to him.
  • Surely just hold off until the end of the season, he's in good form currently and could be worth 2 or 3x more if he keeps scoring.

Dont see the point in getting angry over anything to do with Football anymore.

Used to get into endless arguments on here after a bad result because I'd get worked up - Someone oin here replied to a post of mine and told me to chill out, and stop getting so angry - Having a swear | rant | argument aint going to change anything.

    He's gone.

So much for not selling our rising stars.

Bet the fee will be risable.
    No-one ever said this.
Wasn't one of the positives that we would be able to hold onto prospects and demand a better fee?

This just calls back to the Roland days of shipping a youth player out the moment a bid comes in.
We've not even had a fee suggested and people are comparing Sandgaard to Roland!
The deadline day sale of a top prospect does seem to ring a bell from Roland yes.
We had six January windows under Roland. The first window was a disaster after selling Stephens to Brighton and Yann to Bournemouth.

The following four windows had no major outgoings.

The last window we sold Karlan Grant to Premier League Huddersfield before he ran out his contract. We got a 2m fee up front and substantial add on clauses.

You're acting like we lost a key player every single Jnauary deadline day. It's simply not true.
Both Stephens and Yann were also in the last 6 months of their contract

Not a deadline day deal, but the sale of Lookman was a bit similar to the Burstow situation, where we found a gem and lost him to a PL club soon afterwards

Lookman was £8m from League One so expecting more than that.
Wasnt it £11m? - Plus he had Championship experience.
Yh I can't see Burstow being that sort of figure, because he hasn't played as much and it has all been in League 1
Yeah people are in dreamland expecting an eight figure sum.

Biggest fees paid for League One players...

    Then say no.

If it's not multiple millions it isn't 'substantial'.
How easy is it to reject £2m or £5m at this level, and then watch Burstow get a career ending injury against Wimbledon?
Sorry but that's bonkers reasoning. That means everyone should sell their players for peanuts just in case they get an injury over the next few matches? 2mil would be an insult. We can't expect a Lookman figure but we shouldn't be accepting less than 3/4 plus add ons.

For what it's worth I've got no issue with selling young players if you get a good fee and the money gets reinvested. But selling him now with Stockley injured would be a bit mental given he's in the first team squad. Maybe we can get Kanu into the first team squad and then sell him over the summer (if he's even signed a contract).

This club never fails to disappoint to be honest. But we're going absolutely nowhere so I won't blame Burstow one bit if he moves on.

I'd agree with you if we used the money to buy Stockton or someone ready to improve us.
But as things stand we are very weak when it comes to strikers.

Agree he might be worth more if we keep hold of him, but we also run the risk of him running down the contract, like so many other good youngsters have done to us.

Guess its just me that doesnt see £2m or £5m as peanuts for a League One player.

Fair play to him, will earn an absolute wedge at Chelsea if that’s true.

Probably the worst move you can make as a young footballer though.
That's a joke surely, they've probably got the most successful academy going. Tons of players currently playing at the top level came through their academy.
I’m sure Chelsea didn’t poach any of them.
Of course they did. Same as we poached Burstow from Maidstone less than 18 months ago.

Exactly the way I see it.

One silver lining is that that c*** Southall didn't cash in on this one.
Mason only joined us after Southall was history

It is from a Premier League club. Look at the money they make and spend. It’s pennies to them.
  • He'll be out of here for an initial £3m rising to more based on appearances etc and a selling on %, he'll go out on loan over the next 4/5 years and end up signing for a Championship team on a permanent deal, having picked up a minimum of 10k a week for all that time. Why on earth would he say no to that?
  • With as neutral a hat as I can find to wrar:

He's an 18 year old who is CURRENTLY in form... In League One. That form might not last and even if it does he's still not guaranteed to cut it any higher. He's precisely the kind of player Premiership academies throw a couple of million at on the chance he could be more special.

From Sandgaard's perspective he's put considerable money into the club, this window alone fees for Aneke and Fraser and neither will be on low wages for this level. As a business person, he'd be foolish to not consider a suitable offer and he will have considered what is suitable in some detail before accepting any old offer.

Twas ever thus. Yes, it's frustrating and yes the timing is terrible but that is the nature of the football beast when the big boys start throwing money around.
  • Aneke picks up an injury tonight we're stuck with Washington only.
