Think a club will get a deal done tonight as if not they will pay more in the summer. Plus if Mason has spoken to Chelsea and been offered xyz and it doesn’t get done well I can’t see him being too happy, I wouldn’t be in his position.
Wasn't one of the positives that we would be able to hold onto prospects and demand a better fee?
This just calls back to the Roland days of shipping a youth player out the moment a bid comes in.
We've not even had a fee suggested and people are comparing Sandgaard to Roland!
The deadline day sale of a top prospect does seem to ring a bell from Roland yes.
We’ve been doing this for decades. Way before Roland. Parker and Reid come immediately to mind, albeit Reid wasn’t a “prospect”.
Thats not correct in Parker’s case. Chelsea moved in early. The entire club fought tooth and nail for almost the entire window to keep Parker, and at least finally got Putin, sorry, Abramovic to pay full whack.
We still sold him at the end of the transfer window.
After he refused point blank to play any more. And let's remember he was way older and more experienced than Burstow at the time, and had already thrown his toys out of the pram a season earlier when there was talk of a bid.
234 minutes of League One football. That's all we will have seen of Mason Burstow. What's the point of the academy system when this shit happens?
Well the Q&A with Thomas will make for interesting listening. I'll certainly have questions....
For every Mason Burstow who might get sold early, there are the likes of Albie Morgan, Chris Solly, Anfernee Dijksteel, Scott Wagstaff and Jordan Cousins who do go on to play a significant amount of games for the club.
We shouldn’t fall into the trap of just dismissing the importance of the academy off the back of a player leaving to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world.
I’ve not expressed myself too well there. Of course I believe in the value of academies. Nor do I have any problem with us selling some of these players relatively early on. But the boy has played 234 league minutes, and we are talking about him going to a club which already has 200 + players on loan. That cannot be described as a healthy competition.

Yes, but we sold him. And at the end of the transfer window. In a era before Roland had even heard of us. Which was all I was pointing out - that we have sold good players late in transfer windows before during and after Roland.
The inference was by doing this Sandgaard was following some kind of model first instigated by Roland. Which he isn't. And if it is some kind of model, then it wasn't new to the Roland era. We're a club that will nearly always end up selling our best players to a bigger fish. It's just a reality of the size of club we are.
So Jackson tells Sky that Burstow is talking to a club but Sandgaard tells Jim White they haven't met our valuation.
How's he allowed to talk to a club if we haven't accepted a bid?
Because a deal may be close and the clubs can keep negotiating whilst Barstow agrees terms. If a deal is then agreed Barstow has already agreed his part.

It’s not healthy at all, and I have a deep rooted disdain for the top Premier League clubs for it. But that’s unfortunately the way the food chain works in the industry at the moment.
I’d love to see a much more level playing field, not just for the benefit of Charlton, but for the overall benefit and enjoyment of the game throughout the pyramid.
I don’t think the blame can be pointed at any individual linked to Charlton for that though. It would happen to any other club at our level.
As for the amount of minutes played by Burstow pre-sale…Well, I think this one is a bit of an exception. It’s not as if we sell young players this quickly each time they break through.
I believe that we preferred James Beadle going to Brighton because Chelsea just wanted to make a one off payment with no add ons. I suspect that this is the case with Burstow - better for us to take a million or so less now with still the potential for £10m plus more in the future.
- They made a bid - We didn't think it was high enough but thought they may come back with a higher (and acceptable) bid. - As it's deadline day let him & his agent go and chat to them as there won't be any more time to do that if they do come back with a higher bid. - They haven't. Yet.
I could understand this more if we were in financial difficulties. Come in late with a low offer and hope we jump at the cash. They should know that isn’t the case - if they really wanted him, you think they’d have made a move earlier.

I doubt they know much about us other than we’re in League One and most clubs in this division are desperate for a scrap off their plates (see the Pizza Trophy agreement).
It’s good news that Thomas isn’t just accepting the first bid that comes in. We have a valuation and we stand by it.
We've allowed him to talk and potentially agree his personal terms while we work on agreeing a fee. I imagine it's pretty standard when you have less than 24 hours to get the deal done, you must have to run certain pieces of it parallel.
Of course, just because Chelsea have had a bid turned down doesn't mean there isn't another Premier League club in for him who may have matched our asking price.
Think too many people play Football Manager in here. Mason can speak to any club with our permission, we don’t have to have accepted a bid for that to happen.
Given we are so close to the deadline, it makes sense to have it done this way. It gives Chelsea the maximum possible time to meet our valuation. But if they don’t, it sounds like he’s staying put.

No new information in the above. Chelsea made a bid, leading the race, no fee agreed yet.
Chelsea could have signed him 2 years ago

Then tomorrow slap a massive five year deal in front of him
