Not convinced it’s a done deal judging by these quotes?

    “Very close”

    @LouisMend suing you for clickbait

  • We need him back purely for numbers up top. Once we have him back we don’t have to play him, nothing to stop JJ playing Kanu instead once we’ve nothing to play for.
  • Bought in from Maidstone and sold on with profit to Chelsea where he will wonder around loans for a few years before being sold for a profit by them.  Good luck to him I guess, its the football dream in 2022.  Sadly Chelsea have made it such a success that the other PL teams are all getting in on it too, Brighton are becoming just as bad but everyone still likes them.

Hope we get a decent fee.

TS gets more in in transfer fees this window than he spends again.

Our U18's will see Burstow and Beadle on £££'s so good luck to us persuading them to sign contracts now.
  • We DESPERATELY need him back for the rest of the season, with Stockley crocked and Aneke likely be injured or suspended at some point, we can't rely on Washington and a raw kid who has no first team experience, who we don't even know is under contract
We would not be desperate if we had an incoming forward lined up. However this is Charlton.
  • Just noticed Shay Givens on Skysports Transfer deadline day, , I wonder what he’s got to say about young Mason…
  • The fact he is willing and happy to stay until the end of the season tells you something about the fellas character.
If he signs for Chelsea, it also tells us something about his character (and, IMHO, his judgement). Unless you’re being touted as an England star of the future, you’ve got no chance of ever making team and this is only about £££. Pretty much any other team, and you’d expect them to be buying for development for the future. For Chelsea is just another body for loan scheme.

Silly boy... This is just the start of his loan journey
I am sure you calling him silly will really upset him when he runs out at the Valley on Saturday earning twice what anyone else on the pitch is.

If he is good enough no reason he can't go on to play for England and Chelsea's first team, whilst being paid a fortune to develop.

Worst case scenario, for him, is he will bounce around the championship for ten years and be a multimillionaire by the time he is 30.  I don't know why people see going to Chelsea as some sort of death sentence.

    That will never happen:
Scoring goals against League 1 opposition doesn't make you a premier player.

Money talks and he will be on about 15k a week, as another 18 year old at a lesser  Premier club from a League 1team is on 10k a week.

Why on the last day of the window ?

  • Leaves a slightly sour taste in the mouth that we have him back on loan but our striker options are limited with Stockley out for an unknown number of weeks/months so maybe it isn’t such a bad thing.

Yes that he’s not an idiot

Doesn't surprise me. From the moment I saw him score those 2 goals in the televised youth game against Birmingham last year you could tell he is something special and it was just a question of how long before one of the Premier League vultures picked him off.

But after only 5 or 6 games? That's what is so disappointing. At least in days gone by we could keep young players and enjoy watching them play for 12 - 18 months.

Football is f**ked. My falling out of love with it gets bigger every day.

PS I wish Mason every success.
Classic 'I knew she was pregnant before you did post'.

    10/10
Sorry mate, you've genuinely lost me there.

I recall posting after that Birmingham game that the 2 who took my eye most were actually the 2 centre halves, Elerewew and Bakrin. But that the lad who scored 2 goals also looked the real deal. Remember even texting my son after the game and saying what great prospects they were.

If I could be bothered I would even find the post for you.

    Isn't it always?

Short career, golden opportunity to cash in early before he is either proved to be a superstar or a journeyman (way too early to be sure which).

    That's where we are now

And what's the difference with us playing Burstow on loan from Chelsea next week, and us playing Gallagher on loan from Chelsea 2 seasons ago? Yes we want to build for next season, but we also need to play this season as well, not get dragged into a relegation fight, and compete for an unlikely playoff place until it's mathematically impossible.

Maybe, you are forgetting that his agent is telling him this is his dream move grab it while you can and to be honest it probably is his dream move. Good luck to him and for us it's about how we replace him long term.

  • Don’t see why we should develop him for Chelsea. Do one.
  • I don't know the fee of course, but I'd like to think it's at least say £3 million+.  That will seriously aid a squad rebuild in the summer AND we get to keep the player for the rest of this season.

I don't see how anyone could think this is a bad thing
  • He could have been a Chelsea player 2 years ago, on smaller wages than he'll get from them now, and without us ever seeing him play. Instead we're getting a sizeable enough fee for him, he's staying here on loan anyway, and he's probably just added a zero on to the end of his weekly wage

Chelsea are a horrible oil club
Tbf if we signed a load of young players every window who would never play for the club I can't imagine caring that much either
  • Would not be interested in him coming back on loan, even with the pathetic amount of goals left in the squad. He’s only going to make a shitty/moody squad more shitty and moody. Stay at Chelsea you little nutsack
  • Pretty depressing he's probably just being bought to be sold to Huddersfield for like 8m in a couple of years but makes sense I guess
  • Think some of the suggestions here that we should be getting £6m+, £3m etc are pretty wild.

The lad has scored two goals in League One.
  • He’s so insignificant to Chelski - the potential transfer was not even mentioned in their section on SSN now.
  • Burstow is a warm up act compared to Kanu. Bring on King Kanu.
    Agreed. Burstow is a smokescreen.

I like him but he hasn't show enough to warrant Chelsea to buy him or do Chelsea buy any kid with a hint of promise....defining moment for TS's reign here....if he goes than we are back where we were with RD
That's exactly what they do, if they make it great for chelsea or if not quite at that level flog them for a few million. The ones that don't progress from that early promise can just be thrown on the scrap heap, there's plenty more where they came from. That's the chelsea way
