For the first time in 12 years we have an owner who I am 100% confident will reinvest this money. We are a mid table league one club, the money we get for this kid can get us promoted.
Absolutely this
Hope you are both right but sadly I cannot see it. This gets TS some of his money back or it goes against running costs for next season. I would be shocked if this money is given to JJ for a war chest to build a promotion squad.

Doesn’t have to be one or the other. Most likely a bit of both, investment in the squad with some left over to cover the losses.
Doesn't surprise me. From the moment I saw him score those 2 goals in the televised youth game against Birmingham last year you could tell he is something special and it was just a question of how long before one of the Premier League vultures picked him off.
But after only 5 or 6 games? That's what is so disappointing. At least in days gone by we could keep young players and enjoy watching them play for 12 - 18 months.
Football is f**ked. My falling out of love with it gets bigger every day.
PS I wish Mason every success.
Classic 'I knew she was pregnant before you did post'.
10/10
Sorry mate, you've genuinely lost me there.
I recall posting after that Birmingham game that the 2 who took my eye most were actually the 2 centre halves, Elerewew and Bakrin. But that the lad who scored 2 goals also looked the real deal. Remember even texting my son after the game and saying what great prospects they were.
If I could be bothered I would even find the post for you.
Sorry mate was meant tongue in cheek, I don't doubt that you'd seen him play or knew he was good.
Once a top 6 six club comes in you are never going to keep a young player. It turns their head and probably the families too. So do you want to keep a disgruntled player. If our owner was a billionaire many times over then he could afford to make him sit in the training ground until the end of the contract. But he is not.
I don't do Valley Gold but I have two brothers who pay their money.
Surely it's pointless as if anyone plays a couple of good games in the first team they are off. Most youth team players just leave because their not good enough and the average stay at Cafc.
So our best young talent leaves after a dozen games and this pays for the journeymen players that we purchase.
I hate Chelsea. They give Mason a six week trial in 2020 and consider he isn't Good enough. He comes to Cafc via Maidstone. Now Mason scores again Fleetwood and Crewe and they want him.
Valley gold would have barely contributed to his development. We poached him in 2020, and he signed a pro contract the same year.
If the rumoured figures are true, this is a great bit of business.
Putting aside my dislike for Chelsea I can’t actually get too bothered about this. If we get a fee of say 5m that allows us to build a promotion team for next season then it’s a result. The fact is that I’d have been really pissed off if he’d come through our academy since aged 9, hadn’t signed a pro deal and had left for a tube of smarties and a Chelsea season ticket. We signed him a year or so ago for nothing so in reality it’s good business. Add in the fact he’s totally unproven and could turn out to be an expensive flop. Do I want him back on loan? Ultimately I’d rather he’d gone a week or so ago and we had got a replacement on a long deal but needs must and between a choice of Mason or nothing I’d prefer Mason.

Why would you be shocked……no one can tell. Speaking for myself, I have no idea…..which I suspect is the case with most others. Let’s not be so pessimistic Mike, my glass is half full whereas yours is obviously half empty.
From South London Press:
Addicks manager Johnnie Jackson confirmed after tonight’s 2-1 win at Portsmouth that the 18-year-old striker is set for a Premier League transfer.
“So Mason was in the squad but things developed late – so he went off to have discussions,” said Jackson when asked about the Blues’ move for the forward. “That was just a few hours before kick off.
“I believe that a deal is very close and that he will be coming back on loan to us. Great that the club and the chairman has got a deal he is happy with. But also we get the player back as well.

Not even a mention on Sky even though it’s Chelsea.
Must be conspiracy or they are actually talking about things that are confirmed or are players 90% of people of heard of?
I really don't get why there has to be a badie in everything. Sky, the agent, the player, the buying club, the owner, the tea lady.
This is not a case of anyone doing anything wrong. The player will have received an offer he would have been stupid to say no to, the owner will have received an offer he is happy to accept.
We have probably covered the cost of the academy for the next 2 or 3 years. It hasn't cost us promotion, it almost certainly (after tonight's result) cost us relegation.

The reason I would be shocked is because in all the years of supporting Charlton this is what we do to balance the books. I would love to see the x number of millions given to JJ to build a title winning squad but history tells me otherwise.
So yes, if it happens I will be shocked but as you say at the moment nobody can tell. Nothing to do with volume in glasses.

Why would you do that, as you wouldn't have the player on the pitch AND you'd get bugger all money for him once his contract expires!

Agreed, indeed I hope Maidstone get something out of this
Anyone able to name, I don't know, the last 5 17-19 year olds Chelsea hoovered up from league 1 clubs?
For multiple millions of pounds. There must be loads of them.........
Look at transfermarkt for their u23 and u18 transfers in. There's at least 2 or 3 players a season at each level they pillage from lower leagues, seemingly for little compensation.
That's different isn't it, that's in the Beadle, Palmer, Defoe type. This is different they have paid a fee, that we had a say in.

I don't do Valley Gold either and I am also outraged on their behalf. Or I am an adult and aren't.
Unless your Man City or Newcastle all clubs need to sell in order to build a squad. What counts is what happens to the £££ I'm just pleased this didnt happen under ESI as it would have gone on nice breads and range rovers.
Sorry to see the lad go but wish him all the best but hopefully this will give us the starting blocks to build a squad that we can keep
People saying they'd rather give minutes to Kanu...
You realise if he plays now and scores goals, he'll be off in the summer too? Lol, this is the way of the food chain. It will keep happening the longer we spend down here outside of the Championship (in reality, the Premier League if you look at Fulham trying to get a loan back deal out of Liverpool for one of their young players today).

Or he gets a good preseason under his belt, as 3rd choice/4th striker and pushes on…
get rid of Davison and give Kanu a contract for 5 years with hefty buy out clause

It was Talksport that said Defoe had a realistic chance of coming back to the Valley!
