Still can’t work out if you’re a troll on purpose or you’re just angry who likes to make arguments with almost every poster on here.addick1956 said:
Our budget was so crap it was impossible not to lose more it seems. However you can surely clarify without sarcastic comments. You can stick those up your backside because it wasn't necessary.Airman Brown said:
Oddly, Lee Bowyer would not be regarded as an authority on football club finances, much as the auditors don’t advise on team selection. Here are some facts for you.addick1956 said:
That is not what Bowyer said .Cafc43v3r said:
That's absolutely a load of tosh. The last season we were in league 1 it cost Roland 10 million quid, the season we were in the championship, despite the nice breads, cars and bitches, we made a profit!!!addick1956 said:
It maybe due to more games but that is not big enough to make the difference. RD preferred L1 because it cost him less in loses I recall Bowyer saying .JohnnyH2 said:
Because the TV revenue is bigger for a startaddick1956 said:
Mostly it is true though. I can't imagine what miracle it is that allows a club to pay Championship wages on a smaller fan base and loose less money than Charlton .Airman Brown said:
That’s not necessarily true. At least in the Championship you have about £7-8m more in income to play with and you are more likely to develop players that command big fees. Millwall are losing less in the Championship than Charlton are in L1, despite having a smaller season ticket base, and they are still there.addick1956 said:The problem is that even a stable Championship side loses as much or more money than a league 1 side.
Our owner seriously under estimated the cost of running a football club in this country. Besides which wages are ridiculous in football .
I wouldn’t blame TS if it decided it was too much. Standing still appears to cost 10 million a year and the cost of a ticket is way short of covering the true cost to break even.
That is why we have signed players others didn't rate and our midfield isn't anywhere near good enough to accommodate 433. Without it our wingers have no threat plus we are short on full backs to support it. We lack a threat so opposition teams just suss us out in 10 minutes.
Then as now it might be better if the auditors did select the team.
You made a comment about what Bowyer said and Airman took the time to reply with actual statistics, yet you come back with a rude reply. Don’t get it.6 -
Just out of interest what kind of wedge do we think Roddy is on?
Doubt he comes cheap0 -
Sandgaard isn’t a liar, he was excitable at time of takeover when made the Europe comment. It’s not like he’s repeating that statement on a regular basis!CH4RLTON said:
I think this is what annoys me most to be honest , we absolutely slaughtered KM for the lies but when you think about the time line of events with TS. In one breath he’s talking about a five year plan and competing in Europe , next minute we are on tight budget buying league 2 rejects on four month contracts.ecclesaddick said:I think most of us did not believe our buget was Poundland
I wanted TS to be the real deal more than anyone but I can see why a lot of fans are disappointed to say the very least and some feel very short changed having already bought season tickets.18 -
https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/charlton-athletic-boss-wont-be-having-a-summer-holiday-strengthening-squad-is-the-only-priority/
Back at the start of June, Adkins said he wouldn't be taking a holiday, so he could concentrate on getting players in. His family are probably thinking that was a wasted opportunity for a holiday too...17 -
Is it safe to come back yet?
Seems not. Will google James Olavinka and come back tomorrow2 -
James Olayinka is an interesting one , spent last season on loan at Southend in L2 , appears he can also fill in at RB too according to the Arsenal site.0

Nothing wrong with a budget, seems sensible practice, does anyone actually know what our budget is, because I haven't seen it mentioned here, nor would I expect it to be either, it is an unknown quantity, and on the face of what is understood, Thomas seems to be, shall we say careful, football is an unknown quantity to him, but then who knows, he needs some realistic and knowledgeable advice or we are going nowhere.5

James Olavinka I think is what he said , I’ve just googled him and can’t see much information but assume he’s youngster at Arsenal, please take this with a large pinch of salt.
20 year old CM, 21 games and 2 goals in league 2 at Northampton and Southend.
Not a lot on wiki etc. Hard to see where he'd fit in I guess he'll play the Levitt, Smith, Smith role.

I wonder if Olly has forgot the password for the CAFC Twitter account… or is super busy preparing for imminent new signings? Both unlikely as each other. Pretend I never posted this.1

Southend manager said Olyinka has plenty of ‘attacking flair’.1

Stats don't look great. If the link is true I imagine this will be a cheap back up for Morgan.MarcusH26 said:James Olayinka is an interesting one , spent last season on loan at Southend in L2 , appears he can also fill in at RB too according to the Arsenal site.0 -
I hate posts like this. How has ts lied? Yes, we have signed only league 2 rejects!!!!!CH4RLTON said:

the keeper
famewo loan fee
dobson
clare
stokley
kirk
all came at a cost. I don’t think we have spent enough or wisely but to call ts a liar is idiotic.
we’ve had a year without gate receipts! Most clubs have changed budgets and are suffering from the affects of covid.
would you prefer him to spend what he hasn’t got and risk the existence of the club again? Or would you prefer sensible ownership?
I would prefer him to be more risky and spending big but that’s easy to say when I don’t know how much money the club lost due to covid.
I do agree that ts shouldn’t have shouted his mouth off over a 5 year plan that wasn’t realistic, although he must have believed that at the time17 -
My wife would still be on at me about it. I hope he isn't getting too much earache.killerandflash said:https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/charlton-athletic-boss-wont-be-having-a-summer-holiday-strengthening-squad-is-the-only-priority/

At least our rumoured signings mean we are preparing for next season well.1

Not a rumour but a premier league loan I'd like to us to go for would be Tony Gallacher LB at Liverpool. I understand he was close to signing for Sunderland a few weeks ago but it fell through.1

Even the person actually reporting it isn't exactly convinced it's true so I'm not putting much stock in this one either way right now.MarcusH26 said:

Cullen went on loan to Bradford in League Two when he was slightly older than Olyinka was last season. Arsenal obviously feel like he’s good enough to retain on their books. Stats aren’t everything at 20 years old, especially on loan at a struggling League Two side.3

Loads of people struggle in their first loan, some in their second as well, for multiple reasons. Most improve from the experience.ValleyGary said:Cullen went on loan to Bradford in League Two when he was slightly older than Olyinka was last season. Beilik didn't set the world a light at Walsall. The 1st Matt Smith did well enough at Doncaster last season to get a championship loan this season. Cullen was shocking in an awful Bolton side before we first got him.14 -
Exactly. And let’s be honest, he won’t even need to be that good to be an improvement on Morgan at the moment.Cafc43v3r said:

why dont we look at free transfer market more, some decent names, and we have done ok in that market in recent years1
-
For what it's worth (not much) my theory: We are leaving everything to the last few days. Plan is to find available, unttached, whatever, L1 or Championship Players without a club. We then offer them L1 wages within our budget - but a big promotion bonus if we go up (and maybe a smaller bonus just to make the play offs). That way we get players that fit the budget - who accept lower wages as better than nothing...with the added incentive to aim at promotion. In addition a few loans from (ideally) prem clubs that want to get some experience in some of their fringe or lower age players.2
