if we announced tomorrow that we've managed to offload ronnie and signed a top striker, i reckon the midfield gems that we need would suddenly become very interested
It doesn’t look like there’s a top striker out there that’s still available.

It seems more likely, to me, that we’re hanging our hat on Stockley and we’ll have to invest the majority of our budget on wingers who can score and assist.

I’d wager we’ll replace Chuks with a Premier League loan.
I dont think that would be good enough to be honest we need to replace aneke with a proven goalscorer not a youngster who may or may not work out

we have lost a lot of goals and physicality with aneke going we HAVE to replace that !
Can you name a proven goal scorer at this level who we could realistically sign and not spend all of our transfer budget?

The only striker I can think of who could get 15+ goals and not break the bank is Stephen Humphrys, he’s about to sign for Wigan.
But do you know what the transfer budget actually is as far as im aware yes its been played down by gallen but that would be sensible as otherwise it raises prices for all players

Whether we can get them im not sure but personally names i like are pigott
    taylor oxford
    Charles accrington

Your right though humphrys would of been ideal

must be some mid/low champ strikers we could poach if offered the right money
  • Think we certainly see the younger players like Henry, Barker etc have more exposure to the first team. We are league 1 team and as such we have the right platform to blood our very talented youngsters.

Personally got no issue with that but yes, we do need some more signings to come in aswell.

i'll bow to your greater knowledge but what makes you think there are no top strikers out there? My ideal is we bring one in (i'm talking a lyle taylor (although not him) / Marquis / Piggot / clarke harris type level / player) and a pacey young prem loan if we can do some sort of deal with ronnie - i just can't see him coming good

I think Dion Charles is way out of our price range, Accrington want silly money and he’s under contract. Pigott will go to the Championship and Matty Taylor will cost money to pry away from Oxford, the sort of money you don’t want to spend on a 31yo who can’t play any higher than League One.

On the face of it, no deals make financial sense - but we obviously need to make a deal happen! I’m really interested to see who we end up with.

Why? What difference would it make to them?

please dazzler, i know you're specialism is stats and spreadsheets but any good midfielder looking to 'go places' isn't going to want to join a team that hasn't got any fire power for them to feed - as steve gallen alluded to - you sign a few and the ball starts rolling - a big signing now will encourage others - domino effect

I know what you mean, a talisman for the team (like Taylor, Clarke-Harris, Pigott, etc). I think that’s exactly what we’ve signed Stockley for, we haven’t paid all that money for him to be in a supporting role.

I think the money we could be investing on another striker will go into a winger/midfielder who can score and assist. Any other gaps in the squad will likely be filled with an exciting loan from a top club.

    Mullin strongly linked to Plymouth.....

    Just saying.

Think he's just signed a new deal , would also throw Colby Bishop in the mix from Accrington but I think I saw there's big championship interest.

but we don't know the budget - i've not ruled out division blowing funds and i think stockley would appreciate the help - he is a target man - a foil for others, nota  main man in my book although very good at what he does.

Signed a new 2 year deal last month unfortunately.
  • I saw that Accrington wanted £1m for Charles... personally I think he'd come if doens't get an Championship offer. £1m is a lot but it's also one of those deals where in 2 years time you could sell him for £5-10m.
  • FWIW I would pity the midfielder that cannot create good chances without the perfect striker.

Washington, Stockley and yes I believe with the right service Schwartz will bang the goals in. The latter might even two this season!

You could also release him after the 3rd year after not being able to make the step up.  You never know.

Who went 18 games without a goal last season . but good young option and one who would not expect first team football straight away

Could obviously say that about any signing, 1mil isn't much for a striker that can fire you to the Championship and then chip in there too. Major problem is that League 1 is littered with strikers who have had a great season at some point, Charles one of them. 1 in 4 in the National League, and then the same record in his first season at Accrington. Good striker finding his feet or a one off?
  • I've noticed that we've decided that Washington is an outside left now that we are low on numbers in that position?

His best work was done right up front drawing defenders out wide with his work ethic and runs. He was great to watch during that period he kept our wins going before that unfortunate injury 30 secs into a game.
  • Gone quiet on the Mo Eisa front. Could he be a possibility?

or nobody wants him at the price Southall's midweek pub mate friend wants to grab?!
