  • Can't believe people would take Williams back.

About MacGillivray. Didn't Adkins say recently that if Amos went then AMB would be our number one. If so then MacGillivray won't come to sit on the bench. You'd need an older pro as backup in that case.
  • Can't believe Amos would choose Wigan over us
He not …. He chose his family over London
So why are we wasting our time offering him a contract? If he’s that determined to move home we shouldn’t be wasting any time on him.

Or is this just a case of - I want to move home, but if you pay me £x, I’ll just tell the family to f**k off.

Apparently Amos has signed a 3 year deal with Wigan
Does that strike anyone as a bit too rich of a contract for his quality?

I bet we didn’t offer more than 2 years. More than likely 1 and probably another factor for Amos to sign for Wigan.
  • If only there was some info on this thread rather than opinion.

What I don't get is Amos to Wigan. We know we were trying to sign him, so how can Wigan with all their troubles beat us to that signature. I suppose if I had a pair of rose tinted specs I would speculate that we have changed our mind or have somebody better lined up. Waiting to hear who it is.
Or maybe we don’t have the money. Why is no one considering this very obvious option? Just because TS has $800M does not mean he is going to spend it on us. I’ve not seen him ever say he was going to splash any cash on us and in fact still does not own any club assets like the stadium or training ground, correct? As I feel I must keep pointing out, we are net sellers since his arrival. Maybe the reason we are losing our players and not winning bids for some is simply down to the fact he won’t spend that kind of money and the agents and players know this and we do not. Is no one other than myself considering this possibility? At all? If not, why not?
Well that has occurred to me as a possibility too. Not a certainty, but a distinct possibility. You have to be careful what you say on this site when you lose a proven goal scorer at this level who will be incredibly difficult to replace as some think it is a positive.

I think Adkins was using the media to try to get Amos & his agent to sign a contract with us with that comment. He hoped it would limit their demands by announcing that he had someone else in the squad good enough to be number 1. In reality I expect the club would much prefer AMB to get some loan experience before being relied on.

Similarly NA also told the media that all our out of contract players had told him they wanted to stay!!....in the hope that this comment encouraged them to sign up.
  • Lee Gregory being bounded around in some sectors as a possible for us.

6 days before the transfer window closes.

    Oops sorry it's 66 days.
But only 42 days until the first game and only 4 days to starting preparation. I assume that we a agree that a good pre season is important and that requires time.
Doubt many third division teams have their squad sorted, or anything like sorted, by the first training session of the pre-season.

Hopefully we’ll have the makings of a squad by the Dartford match and then be pretty much ready by Reading (aside from a final enormous marquee signing on deadline day).
Wigan, Ipswich and Portsmouth plus Lincoln are further ahead and Oxford have a decent group. There are only 3 promotion places.
Sunderland are title favourites, have a new billionaire owner................and haven't signed anyone yet.
They're going to be an interesting one to see what they actually do. Had a £1m+ bid rejected for Dion Sanderson the young Wolves defender they had on loan last season.

Not entirely sure if throwing huge money at it is the best way of getting out of this league

    Which “sectors”?
  • Just a few different sites.

Agree on Williams, he’s not going to suddenly change into the player we want him to be just by playing for Adkins rather than Bowyer.

On the GK situation not quite, Adkins said he’d have no issue playing AMB and that he’ll either be first choice here or go on loan. Instead of Amos staying I think we’ll sign a first choice GK and loan AMB out.
  • Wigan fans seem too be happy with closing in on signing Amos.

  • The slight worry for me is, if teams in league 1 are paying silly money  or offering over the top wages Is we might miss out on some of the players were after.
Has anything been said about Thomas having a wage structure?

    Belmarsh.
  • I doubt we were offering a three year deal to Amos makes sense if he’s taken the offer from Wigan. This nonsense that he wanted to move back up North, if that were the case why wait until now to move? You’d just part ways and club would have moved on. He’s also been down South for about four years so don’t think it’s purely down to that, money talks and it looks like Wigan are paying out top dollar.
  • Portsmouth have billionaire owner also I read Wigan owners worth £250m,Thomas worth more then the Wigan owners.

If you weren’t that familiar with him then he would probably sound like a good signing. Strong pedigree coming from the United academy, and just played every game for the team that finished seventh in the division. His YouTube highlights video is probably pretty good too.

It’s well known that Portsmouth are trying to cut their operating costs substantially this season hence not re-signing their player of the year

Nixon with the groundbreaking news that we’re interested in MacGillivray.
If MacGillivary doesn't end up signing for whatever reason, as most on here hope, then we are really in shit street regarding GK as it seems that is the only name being banded about... now Nixon has appeared on the scene :s ,.... let's just hope it isn't the kiss of death on any deal.
