Coincidences

Was driving back from London earlier listening to LBC and then thought I really want to hear some christmas songs, particularly "Driving home for Christmas", changed the station to Magic and Chris Rea's song was playing.

The other week was listening to an audiobook and heard the name Lorna Doone, never heard of her before and looked her up.

The very next morning walking the kids to school and looked up at house that I must have passed 50 times and never looked at it before and sure enough they had called their house Lorna Doone.  Wasn't a case of not acknowledging it before,  I had genuinely never looked up at it before.

Weird.

Anyone else experience this sort of witchcraft?

Yesterday I was watching the film The Odessa File where in the first few minutes the main character Peter Miller played by John Voight is in his car listening to the radio. The music is interrupted by “we interrupt this programme to bring you news.....” At that very moment my smartphone did its BBC breaking news notification. The BBC were not however reporting that President Kennedy was dead.
  • The improbability principle in action. Like going on holiday overseas and seeing someone you know from home - what are the chances of that? Not as little as you might imagine.
  • Got a problem with a roof on our bay window, rung a roofer this morning. He came knocked on next doors door, who unbeknown to me had rang the same roofer today as he’s got to probably have a new roof, that’s what I call a coincidence, the second coincidence today was this thread being started.
  • I support a football team where the manager likes to play to aged centre midfielders who pass the ball sideways. The football team I support lack creativity and do not score many goals!

Not so sure with the Driving Home for Christmas song.   First time I've put music radio on for xmas songs this year and was solely that song that had come in my head as I was driving.

Wasn't in usual rush hour/ drive time either.  There must be 15 to 20 songs that are xmas mainstays played at this time of year and i don't think we're that far into xmas that it's 24/7 xmas songs yet plus adverts and news breaks so there was a relatively low probability of it being on the first station I flicked to.

When I went to primary school there was only 10 or 11 boys in our class (and year as it was one class per year).

One summer holiday we went to the Isle of Wight for a holiday and went to Blackgang Chine and I ran into two of the other boys, all on the same play area bit, all there independent of each other.

I know lots of families go there and it was the holidays, but still, 3 out of about 11 kids all in exactly the same place at the same time by chance about 4 hours away from where you all live was odd.

Every time I feel like catching a train somewhere, I turn up at the station expecting to pay a reasonable price for a ticket and to be transported to my destination on time as per the timetable, but it always turns out that I have to pay a small fortune for my ticket and then arrive significantly later than I expected to. What are the chances?!
You know I love it @MrLargo
  • Found myself in a Wikipedia binge and whilst looking up Oldham Athletic, there was something on the TV about flat earth conspiracy. My mind then wandered to a documentary I watched last week hosted by Brian Cox about the solar system.

Within a minute of scrolling down Oldham’s Wikipedia page I see that one of their most famous supporters is Brian Cox....

And to add to the coincidence, this only occurred about 5 mins before stumbling across this coincidence thread on Charlton Life!

  • When I worked with our neighbours in Lewisham, I was often asked to attend supporters trust meetings held at various locations throughout the country.
On this particular occasion is was being held as the other CAFC.
My colleague and our skipper all made the trip.
En route our skipper regaled us with tales of his midnight exploits after a recent golfing trip to Spain, one especially made his holiday as it had involved a ‘brass and a lilo’.

Oh how my colleague and I laughed as we were escorted into the meeting and our skipper looked like he had just seen a ghost, ran out of the door muttering under his breath.
The only word of which we could make out was ‘lilo’.
Yep, one of those at the meeting clearly had another string to her bow when visiting foreign climbs.

Still, he never bothered coming on away days again after that, of which we were very grateful 🤣🤣
She could float in swiming pools?

Watched 'Workin Moms' with the Mrs last midweek... There was a headlice outbreak.

Watched 'Schitts Creek' with the Mrs on Monday... There was a headlice outbreak.

Get an email from Nursery yesterday... There is a headlice outbreak...

Coincidence, absolutely but an unusual one!
I watched that same episode about an hour ago

It evidently wasn’t the only thing she could do in a swimming pool 😳

What an amazing coincidence. I'm sure there's a thread on here about Christmas songs and how shit they are.

Sounds like he was out of his depth with this one
