Oh well there's always next season. In the meantime I shall take comfort from our back to back wins against Kent. Onwards and upwards as they say. See you all next season.

Once spectators are allowed in, I'm sure normal service will be resumed when we next meet at the Oval!

STEVO !!!!
Why doesn't Lord Stevo play T20 anymore? Simple answer: he cares about the future of English cricket and the well-being of the up-and-coming players.
His Lordship understands T20 is a young man's game and how much money these players can make as cricket mercenaries around the world.
Whilst the senior pros now recognise that seeing b DI Stevens or lbw DI Stevens next to their name on a batting card or having their bowling dispatched to all parts is just a rite of cricketing passage, the youth of today may not be so understanding when their bowling has been dismantled by someone older than their own father or they've fallen foul of wily medium-pace.
Stevo doesn't want the cricketing youth to be disillusioned and doubting their own ability so early in their careers.
Stevo cares.
That's why Stevo doesn't play T20.
However, as there's very little money in First Class cricket Lord Stevo sees absolutely no problem in terrorising county bowlers and batsmen up and down the country year after year after year after year after year ...

He's also lacking in one of the three vital disciplines required of all T20 players namely fielding.

Seb played for the Kent Academy today against Middlesex in what was meant to be a 50 over a side game. He came in at 6 with the score on 54-4 which soon became 54-5 when his partner departed.
Kent eventually made 160 all out off 32 and Seb top scored with 41. Middlesex knocked them off for the loss of 4 wickets in 31 overs (Seb took 3 catches keeping).
Due to the early finish they then played a T10. Kent managed a decent 90-4 (Seb 8 not out). Well we thought it was decent 'til the Middlesex batsmen set about our bowling and got them off 6 overs for the loss of just 2 wickets.
Still an enjoyable day out in the sun at the County Ground Beckenham and at least I can say I saw Kent play this season - even if it wasn't the 1st Team
The above game was part of a four week trial. We've just had confirmation that Seb has made the 2020/21 Kent U18 squad of 14 which is good news. Another wicket keeper/batsman hoping to make it (not much competition in that department!!!) although as Paul Downton put it, when he spoke to me last week, they are not called keeper/batsman anymore - they are batsman that keep. A subtle difference but a reflection nevertheless of how the game has moved on from the days of Bob Taylor for those of us that remember him!

I think the difference now is that players are trained to have multiple skills, so that for example, so many keepers are great outfielders too
Has Billings ever kept for England, as his role in the white ball team in the field is as a boundary rider. I can't imagine the likes of Knott, Taylor, Jack Russell or even Geraint Jones fielding out there!
Thanks Fanny and I am but, as I come from the Brian Clough school of mentoring, I would never say it to his face. But, if and when things don't quite work out as he would like them too, I will be the first to put my arm round him - and to tell him to pick himself up, dust himself down and bloody well get on with it!!!!

Nice one Seb.
Do I Remember correctly that keeping was considered such a specialist role that Bob Taylor was allowed to keep wicket against the Aussies after the starting keeper got injured during a test ?

I think it was against New Zealand and a couple of years after he had retired! He was working for the sponsors and Bruce French got hit on the head so he replaced him for the rest of the day.

During New Zealand's 1986 Test match at Lord's, Taylor was present in the hospitality tent when Bruce French was injured by a Richard Hadlee delivery. After trialling Bill Athey behind the wicket, New Zealand captain Jeremy Coney permitted Taylor to come on the field to keep for the remainder of the day. Wisden recorded "[Taylor] equipped himself with an assortment of borrowed kit, although he did, far-sightedly, have his own gloves in his car... Despite having retired from first-class cricket two years earlier, Taylor ... kept without a blemish." Bobby Parks was brought in to keep for the following day.

Come on Notts!!!!
I saw it was scheduled for yesterday and the forecast said rain for days so forgot all about it.
Commiserations, @blackpool72.
Honestly thought your boys had that one in the bag.
In the meantime I shall take comfort from our back to back wins against Kent.
Onwards and upwards as they say.
See you all next season.

You must be very proud, AA.
