Kent Cricket 2020

Thought I'd start a new thread

https://www.kentcricket.co.uk/news/blake-signs-new-kent-deal/

Alex Blake has signed a new deal until the end of 2022, our first ever white ball only contract. It rumoured a few years ago that he was fed up with his lack of chances in the red ball side, maybe with all the money in the white ball leagues around the world, he's now very happy to be a white ball specialist!

Grant Stewart also signed a 2 year extension to his contract

    https://www.kentcricket.co.uk/news/stewart-extends-kent-stay/

and Klassen signed  a 1 year extension

with Milnes and Robinson in the Lions squad,  Cox and Qadri in the England u19 squad we are certainly trying to build for the future
  • I don't really follow Kent that closely, but I'd be interested to know what people make of Robinson.
Do they have big hopes for him at Kent?

Am I correct in saying that none of Denly, Billings or Crawley have been picked for IPL and will be available for our early games?

    Definitely

We do have a glut of talent in the keeper/batsman area though with Billings, Robinson and the even younger Jordan Cox. It'll be interesting who takes the gloves in which format this summer

I think Adam Rouse is still there too?

I believe that Billings, due to his injury and form with the bat last season when not keeping, may just bat which will mean that Ollie Robinson can take the gloves and bat at 6/7 in the County Championship. Billings, I would think, will then keep in the shorter form of the game.

Robinson is nailed on to be keeper in all formats , I’d say

On the other hand if Billings is to get back in the England white ball squad, then his keeping would be a major factor in his chances. He's definitely a better keeper than either Buttler or Bairstow

I'm not so certain about that simply because I don't think T20  (yet)  is his forte. Depending on whether Denly (and not so much Crawley) will be available, I think the side would look something like this:

    Leaning
    DBD
    Denly
    Kuhn
    Billings
    Blake
    Nabi
    Groenwald
    Podmore
    Milnes
    Qayyum

That would leave out from these batsmen/all rounders in the squad: Dickson, Robinson, Cox, Crawley, Stevens, Rouse, Cox, Stewart and O'Riordan

Adam Milne for sure but not du Plessis - as far as I'm aware he hasn't signed for us. In any event, we can't have Nabi, Milne and du Plessis in the side.

  • Ollie Robinson is a great talent but we have 2 very good keeper batsmen. Unfortunately for Ollie the other one is the captain. I am guessing that one will play as a batsman next season. We have signed some good players. Icing on the cake for me would be Matt Henry

Du Plessis would be kolpak. May be why Kent played him at Headingly at end of last season!

Matt Henry for the CC absolutely. Think Robinson will be number 1 keeper.

Hi all. Best if luck for the season.

Odds on when the first "piss off canters" of the year occurs?

Faf has denied that he is retiring from international cricket despite being dropped from the 50 over squad. He says he wants to play in the T20 World Cup in October.

There is another connection and perhaps the person that persuaded Faf to play for us last season - Faf is married to the sister of Hardys Viljoen's girlfriend and Viljoen was already in our T20 squad last season.

    Piss off Canters
  • Do we have team up with those slimy Surrey supporters for ‘The Hundred’ to support the Oval Invincibles or whatever there called?

No, they are nothing to do with Kent.

You can choose any team to cheer if you want.

Not the impression Surrey CCC are giving. Also the extra finance they get from this will be significant

Umm? where are you getting that idea from? Surrey have always been anti the 100. We were actually the last time to finally give in and vote for it in order to receive the bribe after Essex and Kent had broken the voting block.

We also pushed the ECB significantly further after that re use of the Oval threatening to not allow use etc.

The ECB have massively pushed surrey to include the 100 in ALL memberships. Surrey refused and decided to offer one membership which had it as an added extra. A membership they aren't actively promoting and all the unofficial messages from the club are that they would love it if there was zero take up of this as it would massively help their case with the ECB.

As for finance, aside from the bribe which every county gets the only additional finance we are receiving for this is the payment for not being allowed to use our own ground in peak season - which i'm told is not actually as much as the estimated income lost by having to host games at out grounds.
