This really is the worst time of year to read threads on CL. Everyone speculating about signings , takeovers and contracts without actually knowing very much at all . People jumping to conclusions, panicking and arguing with each other . All this after one of our greatest days in our history.

I started off with Charlton during the ground sharing years as a kid but because of that (and having never been to The Valley) at that time, I didn’t really appreciate how shit it was and mostly enjoyed it (except for the relegation and irritating player sales) so for me these last 5yrs feel a lot worse but interested to read the views of others/elders....

So when Bowyer and over half of the current squad walk away on 30 June because the idiotic owner fails to offer them adequate contracts and then brings in inferior replacements from football's equivalent of Poundland, you'll feel the same will you?
Bowyer should obviously have been signed up, we all know it's ridiculous. So should Aribo & Fosu at the start of last season.
However, it is a lie to say that half the squad are leaving because the idiotic owner has failed to offer them an adequate contract.

The strong likelihood if RD remains in charge is that he will wreck the situation again. I’m reluctant to expand on this too much in the aftermath of last weekend, which everyone enjoyed, but the flaws in his approach are obvious and won’t be offset by cheering louder or pretending they don’t exist. The difference in L1 is that two thirds of the clubs can’t compete with us.
”Support the team” on its own is not enough. Indeed it’s likely to lead to another wave of even deeper hopelessness driving more people away permanently. It needs to be coupled with causing Duchatelet as much embarrassment and inconvenience as possible.
Ok, I will be the one to say it, I would imagine Steve Parish had a lot to do with Palace paying the bulk of Jonny Williams wages on the six month contract. Plus Steve Parish is one lucky bastard with some lovely memories !

Well, that's a no brainer surely. For me the 'Ground-sharing years' although frustrating, were a relatively successful period for the team.
Purely down to Lee and the boys we have achieved nothing short of a miracle in getting promoted - despite having, arguably, the worst owner in the club's history. Do you honestly see him changing his attitude now?
We really do have to wait until July to get a better picture as to where we are on the pitch. Worth remembering that the Powell 2011/12 side was a major rebuild, and the first players didn't arrive until the 1st June, with most arriving at the end of June/early July.

If RD is still holding out for £65m on the sale of real estate, then we have an impasse. Remember that he is a business man with profit is king thinking. The difference between how much the club cost him and £65m ((less expenditure) means that he can hold out. Plus a few more quid for Aribo will mean longer.
With have a serious situation here as it’s more than likely to continue under his ownership for sometime. Such a shame.

I'm not quite sure why you think I'm trying to influence other people. I'm expressing my opinion of the current situation at the club, which should be on the crest of a wave after Sunday, but is actually in limbo. Duchatelet has already offered Bowyer a new contract. You may recall that he said that he had never seen anything like it! You state the players that have been offered contracts are the players that Bowyer wanted to keep but those four include Fosu, who hadn't featured in recent weeks and barely at all throughout the season. I really don't believe that Fosu is a player that Bowyer would be overly keen to keep. You also have to remember that just because these players have been offered contracts doesn't mean that they are staying. I very much doubt if the contracts offered are generous, especially as Roland is so scared of the finances of a Championship side. We will see what we are left with come August in the way of management and players but I, for one, am not confident that it will be sufficient to survive the Championship.

He won't get much for Aribo. Any compensation fee will be pretty small i think given he's been playing in league one and has no international youth caps. Also i'm not sure how it works but do we get even less if Aribo goes to Rangers or Celtic as i think you get less if the player moves countries?
