My LOL at that is just because of your curmudgeon comment. On a serious note, do you rate Bauer and Pearce ahead of him? Lennon?
Bauer and Tex are too good for this league SD however as I've said before on this old chestnut, It doesn't matter what we think, Pearce was handpicked by Slade at an outlay of £1m? And if fit he's the first name that goes down on the team sheet. Additionally Pearce being naturally left footed also counts in his favour as does his experience in the English game which will really appeal to Slade.
Unless Pearce has a massive bust up with his gaffer I don't see the situation changing anytime soon or Slade goes to 5 at the back or pushes one of these 3 CBs into midfield, appearance bonus payments aside that is.
Pearce's stats from the Chesterfield game are amazing, great defending and 95%+ pass completion. Hard to change current defence unless you play Solly at left back and Bauer on the right to accommodate Tex.
I don't get it. If we couldn't sell him in the summer what makes them think we will be able to in January?
Unless the player was blocking the move in order to keep his stupidly high salary. Or if they will let him go for free in Jan assuming another club comes in for him?
Why on earth was he signed on such a long contract when relegation was all but certain. If I didn't know any better it would almost suggest we were run by idiots.....

the long contract meant it wouldn't be capped this season

The contract may have been over long, but in no way was relegation certain when he was signed.
When we won at Rotherham at the end of January, we were (allowing for GD) 2 points from safety, and Rotherham looked more likely to go down than us. Then Colin took over and worked an absolute miracle...
And not just Rotherham. Bristol City got their act together and got well clear of the relegation zone.
Most seasons you'd expect at least one of the lower mid-table stragglers to sink like a stone and get caught up - but it just didn't happen.
And on top of that, we had a pretty tough run in compared to the other strugglers. Tex and Fanni did a decent job - but by the time they'd settled we were running out of games.

Bauer, yes, easily.
Pearce about the same.
Sure, he should be in the squad, no denying that, but he wouldn't be a massive bonus.
I suppose what you could say is that he should have been there when Lennon was playing and gave away the penalty, although Tex was clumsy in the area last season anyway.

I expected the likes of Fulham and Blackburn to slump. Fulham somehow managed to keep hold of Dembele and McCormack in January and their goals kept them up, while Blackburn survived the sale of Rhodes (though are struggling this season)

Wigan will be interesting now... Having sacked a Manager who won them a League, they've now gone and hired Warren Joyce who has only ever been Man Utd's U21 Manager and has never be in charge of a proper side before.
IMO I think Tex should come back in. Rate him higher than Pearce from what I've seen. Also a great threat from corners, something we've lacked this year big time. (Lookman's corners are also shite, i know)

Don't hold your breath mate Pearce is one of the first names Slade puts on the team sheet if fit.

Tex played last night for the U23's, he was solid apart from one huge mistake where he gifted the opposition a goal. He looks fit enough to play, so must assume it's to do with a bonus after a certain amount of appearances or something.

We could have Benteke, Andy Carroll and Peter Crouch in our team, but they'd be either watching the ball fly over their heads or not beat the first man

If you're referring to the KSC game it was Chris Millar that made a poor pass that the striker then put in past Beeney.

Flops like Sarr get "snapped" up whereas Tex wasn't.

Bizarre choice for a team struggling to survive
