Fraeye reiterates that Lookman has indicated wants "long-term commitment".

Then instead of talking about it Fraeye.....do something about it....FFS not difficult is it? This young lad is going places I would at least like to see him stay with us beyond January!!

The problem is that RD does not want to retain players long-term

    Was not the last defender.

Sean St Ledger just been released from his MLS club - at 30 - he must be worth a look at to shore up the central defence?!

Classic defender (sorry) .. could be worth a desperate punt .. BUT .. is he really better than Bauer and Lennon .. OK .. he's got experience of our division .. BUT released from MLS ????? ..
  • Heard on the radio we were 2-0 up and dominating the early part of the game - fully expected us to lose from that position and sadly wasn't disappointed.
We're conceding goals at an alarming rate and unless that changes then we can say goodbye to the Championship.
Was going to go to the game but couldn't face it - feel sorry for those that went.
  • I will try and add some comments here based on the way i heard it....we got off to a flyer .... Brighton didn't know about Lookman's pace and he surprised them. We had them worried every time we went forward in the first half and maybe could have been 3-0 up. However losing Lennon to injury in the first half I don't think made the difference, it was Baur's red card and the injury to JBG, added to some extremely poor reffing decisions coupled with a team, that from the start of the 2nd half, seemed to be dropping deeper and deeper (even before the red) that contributed to the defeat. However our paper thin squad does not give us quality or even experience of an few old heads on the bench who could come on and slow the game down..... we have no decent Plan 'B' when we have injuries.
There is only one person to blame for that - RD - who refuses to understand you cant have such a paper this squad to play circa 50 games a season and hope to be challenging/performing. I have said on another thread everyone (in the main) can see the issue, but will RD change - no he won't.
This to me is pigheadedness for the sake of it, and I still don't understand his reasons for it. I said on the opening comment on the match thread that Euell has said we have players lined up to come in.....well we need even more now (if true of course).
What a disappointing end to what had started out as a surprising game.

Did the injury to JBG affect it? We were already on the back foot and I expect bringing Ba on was already an option. Problem is Ba isn't good enough. Oh for a fit Kashi, we miss him so much. So next week do we weaken midfield putting Diarra at CH or go with Saar/Lennon which could be a disaster.

I don't blame KF because the players need to show more football intelligence, it would have been drilled into them at half time don't give them an early goal, keep it tight, shape etc

How on earth does Baur get himself into a position with the old cart horse Zamora where he had to bring him down and get sent off, Sarr isn't great but Baur has cost us the game in that moment.

As soon as we lost the momentum it was inevitable , they knew it, the players knew it and sadly everyone of us knew as well. I hope you enjoy the highlights tonight Roly you fooking twat.

Indeed you can't blame KF for one players moment of madness, but this board (and Fraeye too, in fact) love their stats, and currently KF's stats are played 6, lost 4, won two, which just isn't good enough.

harsh red card, we looked to be VERY good on the break but could not cope under pressure against the ONLY UNBEATEN TEAM IN THE ENTIRE FOOTBALL LEAGUE SO FAR THIS SEASON, especially after the sending off ..Henderson was unlucky with the last goal, most times that would have dropped clear, we're undone by a googly .. EDIT .. wasn't there, going by the Sky highlights
  • Wasn't there, listened on player. can't pass judgement on the card decision, but you just knew we were concede early in the second half. It always looked like defeat from that point on.

Thanks for the clips Callum, Lookman's goal was class...
  • This content has been removed.
  • Shit defending for the goals, for all the talk of Diarra in midfield hes the one that loses the ball and just look at the lack of effort to stop the run from Bauer, not to mention Solly not breaking out of a jog to get back, and Sarr trying to square up a player in the box.

Second goal, players don't commit fully to throwing themselves in front of the ball.

Third goal, Diarra out jumped and defenders too slow to react to the parry, leaving an injured Henderson floundering to keep it out.

Looks like our team next week may have to be:

    Pope
    Solly Diarra Sarr Fox
    Reza Ba Cousins Holmes-Dennis
    Lookman Vaz Te

With Muldoon and RCC on the bench as midfield cover, if JBG, Jackson, Kashi, Lennon, Bauer, Ceballos, Watt, Vetokele, Henderson and Harriott are all unavailable for selection for various reasons. (Anyone I've missed)

To lose two central defenders is tough then to lose Gudmunson and have Cousins a passenger for last 12 mins it impossible ..... Yet MOM was the Brighton keeper because he saved them first half from not being five down at HT
Well done to the guys today great effort and performance but like most of the season injuries are still playing s big part of our problems

Which is exactly why we need a stronger squad.

There will be plenty of excuses trotted out, but we lose match after match after match, this time from a winning position.
The entire football world can identify our structural problems apart from the delusional Meire and Duchatelet. Duchatelet dismisses at a stroke those who tell it like it is on the internet, and Meire has cemented in her deranged and paranoid attitude long ago...five successful managers my arse Katrien, it really isn't them, it's you and Roland who have set us up to implode and to die as a club.
Sick to my back teeth of all of this...I know dear Olly says we didn't deserve that, but it is happening game after game.
I am absolutely fecking dreading the cup draw on Monday.
I am absolutely dreading the next matches with virtually no players left due to suspension and injury.
They won't change, they won't leave, they won't listen, they won't act. We are fecking hostages, and the tragedy is some of our support are even now still in the grip of Stockholm Syndrome

Thank you Seth. Injuries, the ref etc etc. As if today was a one off! We're i the relegation zone because of bad managers, a paper thin squad and all the transfer nous of a dead heron. We lost the so called easy ones, and now we're losing the others. And I 'm tired of hearing we've turned a corner.
  • On train so haven't read other posts. We were incredible on the break in the first half and could have been four up. Turned up expecting to get smashed so being 2-0 up was a complete shock and we were loving it. However, there was always the feeling that it WA dimly going to end up one way. We had some poor luck in losing both centre backs and missing a couple of great chances and when a lower side comes up against a side like Brighton you can't get away with having that much going against you.
  • What a shit time to be a Charlton supporter it really fucks up your Saturday even...

Hold on Mila Kunis, in stockings, muff diving Natalie Portman in Black Swan!!!!

    Thankyou Sky planner!

    Every cloud soapy, every cloud
  • Now the initial disappointment / frustration is starting to fade, that sounded in the main a big step up from last week. Bauer getting sent off a big impact, but also fitness, squad depth and general balls remain a problem. You have to fear for us every time we concede a goal that that won't be the end of the bad news.

Hopefully though, the first half performance will be something to build on. If we can tighten defensively all of a sudden we look a different prospect going forward. I fear for us if we don't.

Think the problem was Lennon going off and Sarr coming on - the defence looked vulnerable at the end of the first half and the pressure led to the sending off, rather than the red card being the cause of the pressure. Although obviously with ten men it was going to be very difficult.
  • could be worse .. could be a Chelsea fan ((:>) .. Jose's chaps 1-0 down to Bournemouth.. Glen Murray
