considering what we got for Wiggins, 500k is very decent.

Did we actually get £750k for him ? Astonishing bit of business if so.
5k a week contract, for 3 years, which is what he had left on his deal, so not that astonishing, they basically bought out the rest of his contract with us with nothing else on top
yeah but it doesn't work like that does it. We get the £750k now, so means we can use the wages elsewhere on top of the fee.

I'm not saying we don't get the money to spend, I'm just saying it's not an "astonishing" fee for a player in the championship, and to prove the point, broke it down into something relatable. If the rumours are correct then that will cover the fee and probably a years wage for an incoming winger, something we lack, whilst not weakening our own team through the sale, as Fox, Bergdich and in the future THD and Edwards will be more than enough

I agree its not an "astonishing" fee, but 750k for a player with the injury problems he has had over the last couple of seasons is a decent bit of business. Yeah it does seem likely it's just his wages, but transfer fees don't work like that do they, its just the value of a player itself that is represented by the fee, and 750k for Wiggins was good stuff for the club.

So you could argue that its effectively a 1.5m 'income' over the 3 years (up front fee and then the saving on the wages)
  • From our starting strike force on Saturday we had one who most agree is not going to be prolific and the other an 18 yo struggling to make an impact. On the bench TW has never looked like lasting 90 minutes since he joined. Igor is injured and is recovering from long term achilles. Only alternative just gone on loan until January.

I think we need a striker!

His agent says personal details have been agreed and that the player wants to come back South ... And had told Wolves he is not signing a new contract just can't see wolves holding onto him till Jan when his fee will be halved

What sort of ballpark fee are we talking if we sign him now ? Can't be much surely ?
£250k is what we want to pay, £500k is what they want according to an unreliable source.

Imagine it will depend on who blinks first.
A bit puzzled by this, do we really need Henry ? If he is so keen to come he must think he's going to play every week. haven't we got a fairly decent Icelandic winger who plays on the right who many consider to be one of the best players in the championship ?

    Henry is a left winger.

If he come to CAFC he will have to learn to play on the left unless Johann is injured.
I can remember him playing as an attacking mid fielder as well.

  • Pretty sure JBG ca play on both sides
  • I agree I'd expect him to play on the left and swap during the game with JBG. But his best quality is his crossing so it would seem strange signing him only to play him on the left which would effect him a fair bit.

I'm not sure that's how transfer fees work. We don't have to pay his salary for the next three years so our P&L benefits from that over the next three seasons. The transfer fee is a separate payment and isn't necessarily linked to his salary.
  • Henry is a right footed winger. In squad terms I would see him as a replacement for Eagles if he comes in.

More a replacement for Bulot. Bergdych (sp?) is obviously capable of playing midfield but presumably will have to play left back on occasion, or potentially permanently

No politics on this thread chaps.

typical, every time some one pipes up with a "right wing" comment SHG has to shut the thread down

    :)
  • Good point.

No problem switching and finding out the weakness of the oppo's fullbacks.
one winger going on the Outside (Henry) and then Johann cutting in on to his left, the left back wouldn't know if he's coming or going. We would really have some options if can get this transfer to happen.
plus looking forward to seeing what Ceballos can do.

  • Charlton head coach unsure on winger deal
Tuesday, 11 August 2015 By Richard Cawley
CHARLTON head coach Guy Luzon has aired doubts over whether a deal can be done for Wolves winger James Henry.
The Addicks bid for the former Millwall wideman earlier in the summer - but the offer was nowhere near the Molineux outfit’s valuation.
Talks had been ongoing over bringing Henry back to South London.
But he started on Saturday for Wolves as they won 2-1 at Blackburn.
Luzon told the South London Press: "I like him. We have an interest. But I heard he is staying at Wolves, so we continue forward."
  • Somebody has posted this on George Tucudean's Wilki page.

    Return to Charlton Athletic Edit
In July 2015 Ţucudean was informed by management that is not part of the team's future plans of the Steaua București, after he did not agree with the reduction of the contract.

I'll wait til Colin confirms this.
    comeback tomorrow then.
I just don't trust people who have sources within the club. What if he has an axe to grind?

heard yesterday he was coming back and possibly going on loan to STTV, but just thought it was bull.

We'll know for sure when he lets us know if he's backing Jeremy Corbyn for the Labour leadership.
