Agreed BR7 ... there comes a time when you have to give youth a chance or what's the point of wasting 12 mill in approving the academy
Tarriq Dennis and Grant to me are first team players

    Sorry, what cost 12 million??
The re building of the training ground and Acadamy to get us back to level 1
Only when Greenwich Council give the necessary planning permission.
  • What is roger Johnson up to?, I'd happily sign him for a year

Was presenting bbc breakfast this morning.

No 3 mate when we went into Div 1

i used to think people were just being harsh to you colin, but honestly, what planet are you living on?

You are so intransigent in your beliefs Colin that I can't take your views seriously. Put away the rose tinted specs. Surely even you can see our squad is woefully short of numbers and quality. I really thought that this would be the Season that RD strengthened our squad, but it is weaker so far than last season. I still do not understand what RDs plans are for us. With the lack of spending it certainly isn't getting us into the Premier League.

It's too soon to say that though isn't it. We make three more quality permanent signings and a couple of astute prem loans and all of a sudden the squad will look competitive.

I don't ever see us running with a squad of two in each position again. It's not sustainable and a reason why some clubs are skint. Freeing up wages by having a flexible and at least partly adaptive squad with a strong academy is I think how RD sees it.

Let's at least wait until the season starts and see where the squad is then.
Yes I will wait to the end of the transfer window before I decide how strong our squad is. But I hope for the best but if I am being realistic i can't see too much changing.

  • The squad right now clearly is understrength, but so what? A lot can change quickly. The Bulot thing falling through/dragging out (still could be either so far as I know) has got people worried but we're not totally screwed just yet. There's still more than enough time to bring more people through and until we actually know who those people are the rest is just speculation.

Could sign two or three proven Championship players over the next week for all we actually know. We could sign some no-names from the obscurest league in Europe, or even no-one at all. We don't know. And until we do, why get worked up and worried?

Fair enough. I agree that the squad as it stands is not competitive and if we don't address that then we are in a relegation fight but I don't believe that the club doesn't also realise that.

I am confident that those "three" more permanents will stiffen us up and I do see Charlton now as an attractive place for premiership clubs to put their loans.

If by kick off we still haven't got at least three in then I too will be concerned.

  • Aha, yes indeed. I will be honest, I am totally aware why people aren't happy with the state of play re: transfers, it is quite disappointing and the squad is weak. I agree with that. But I DO take issue with people assuming that the Powers That Be don't share the assessment and intend to address the situation. Things do go wrong sometimes, perhaps this is one of them. But whatever ****-ups there have been, they weren't necessarily on our end - RD no doubt would have made sure the Bulot thing went through but the new bid came in AFTER we and Bulot assumed it was a done deal and it's Liege's new owners who are playing silly sods, not Roly (in this case.)

  • Wednesday have signed Alex Lopez from Celta Vigo.

Genuinely never even heard of him.

The People say that Paul Anderson has rejected our offer of a two year deal.

Well as he's just been released by Ipswich I can understand why he might reject the first few offers he gets as he's widely considered to be a decent champion player.

What is a little concerning is that I am beginning to get the impression that our offers for wages seem to be perhaps a bit unrealistic for Championship players to accept. I doubt Johnson and Eagles were offered much in January but needed to be playing. Getting in any championship players in seems a very tall order for us.

    We' ll see.

I'm still a bit peed off with the Bulot situation. Feels like total mismanagement of the situation by the club has led to this point.

Not the club fault that SL wanted 2 mill more after a deal had been struck ..

I'm not sure if you are being paid by the club to be overly optimistic or you are Roland himself, to be honest that would explain the butchering of the English language considering it's not your first (or second or third) language.

Either way you're statement that we only need 3 players is absolutely ridiculous

Am I the only one who thinks we dont need a forward?
Watt, Igor, Makeniok and Grant? Grant looked very sharp today and in good shape, I think he could step up.

Piggott scored a hat trick a couple of years ago and looked superb. I'm not saying KAG can't step up. But we shouldn't use a pre season friendly to judge the player either way, especially the first friendly of the year!

I agree with you in that we shouldn't get too hyped up by his (very promising) performance yesterday, but he has already shown that he can play at this level (Fulham away) whereas piggott has never done that in a competitive match!!
  • The non communication of the owner does not make life easier for us. Now he has sold SL we have no idea whether he plans to push on CAFC or not. Seems to me the FIFA/FA have screwed his concept of having well run clubs living (almost) within their means whilst others go bankrupt. I am guessing he will be disenchanted and sell us on.

And there's the problem. RD won't pay the wages needed to bring in experienced Championship players, so we end up with Nego, PP and Tucudean. Mid table is the best we can ever hope for with a strategy like that.
So what about Gudmunsson, Watt, Vetokele, Bulot and Henderson? You didn't mention them.
Because they're not experienced Championship players - which I believe we desperately need to balance a squad that's only been added to with a German cb who has just been playing in the poor Portuguese league, a crocked youngster who played one game for Sunderland and a striker who played four games last season, scoring none.
