    ;)

    Trust News Time..

A homage to explosive editions of VOTV?

    An ACDC track

Perhaps a nickname, that roughly approximates to the title.

    Who really knows....

Is you're exclusive that we're sticking with the same away kit then - Back in Black?

Ha just seen this, we were told they'd hired a pro PR guy but that is a way to go!
  • So, it's a Chris Powell interview.

Ooh, Nick Clegg is getting feisty
  • Just out of interest, did Powell know what the publication date would be when he agreed to do the interview?

This is not a dig at him or the trust, but would genuinely be interested to know as it is obviously very interesting timing...

the timing was deliberate, to mark the game, but it's fair to say that none of us, least of all Heather expected him to open up or even cover the issues he has spoken of.

There's the risk that this completely undermines the club before an important game.

Wish the timing was a bit better.

Wonder why Powell has chosen to release this interview now, almost as if he's trying to get his team in the best possible position to win the match.
  • Honest opinions shouldn't undermine anyone. Might not reflect well on owner but won't have any impact on players or GL

Well I'm certainly no hater, and I'll properly reserve judgement until I've read the whole thing and not just the snippet...

but gut instinct is I'm not fully sure on this. From a fanzine like VOTV, yes, from a local hack like the News Shopper, yes, from a representative body? really not sure.

Just grey lines on what imo a Trust should all be about, and this potentially strays that imo, given the timing and what I'm guessing will be the content.

I'm just not fully sure what this is setting out to achieve, and I say that with the utmost respect for the people involved, particularly the person who conducted the interview.

If having the read the full thing I feel differently. I'll be the first to out my hands up.
That would be my first thought but then if what is said is fact rather than speculation/ opinion then it is good to get it out there particularly when the target audience will be at its biggest for some time.

Appreciate the money Roland is putting in to keep us going but if that is true that he is bringing in players without consulting the manager then he is a complete fuckwit and it is good to know before committing to a season ticket/ trusting in the Board to allow some complete stranger play real life Championship Manager with our club.

Powell doesn't strike me as the sort of bloke who would be petty or bitter. He left well in credit with many Charlton fans despite the abysmal showing at Bramall Lane and so it's not as if he needs to give his side of the story to build bridges with the fanbase.

One question though if this is true why is Richard Murray so silent on such things? Surely he must know that sort of thing is wrong un behavior and not conducive to moving the club forward positively?
  • I am still looking forward to reading it though

My only gripe with this is that at a time when you want to promote communication with the club you publish something that could embarrass the current owner. Do you now honestly think "that trust is ok , let me go and talk to them"

If the current owner is insistent that clowns like Thuram are better than the likes of Alnwick and Hamer he deserves embarrassing.

  • Powell describes his first meeting with Duchâtelet, at which Tony Jiminez was also present. The omens were not good – Powell was ill the night before, and had to pull over on his way to The Valley to be physically sick. The Belgian businessman arrived with strong ideas about the playing squad, while Jiminez, keen to ensure the deal was quickly done and dusted, sided with the new man’s opinions rather than supporting his manager. “We had the nonsense with the goalkeepers. Ben Alnwick had come in and was outstanding with Ben Hamer being out. He (Roland) said Ben Hamer is not good, Ben Alnwick is not good. I’ve got a goalkeeper who’s better than both. I said, who is it, I need to know. Then it was always, oh he’s better, he’s this, he’s that. I said I need to choose who’s right, for this division and this league.”

Clearly there was intransigence on both sides of the table, but Powell is not at all bitter in what he is describing, just deeply disappointed at the gulf in football philosophy. He is a manager who takes full responsibility for putting together his own squad, yet he was faced with the complete opposite, “I’d be in my office and there’s a player turning up downstairs with his suitcase, saying he’s come to play. Who is it? It’s Loic Nego, it’s Anil Koç. I don’t even know who they are. ‘We’ve been told you need a winger’ – yeah, but I need a winger who’s used to the Championship, and you’ve got a young boy who’s played three games for Standard off the bench. I mean, that’s not for Charlton. Charlton deserve a player who’s going to improve them.”
